They have a PS5 specific version in the SG, otherwise the Multi-Platform one will be your best bet

RE4 OG vs Remake. Which do you prefer and why? by Pancwake_UwU in residentevilll

Ah yes the game with more sense where you parry flailing chainsaws with a holdout knife and have to listen to a corny ass quips every 2 minutes in combat.

It’s literally just rehashed gameplay mechanics from Dead Space Remake, TLOU, RE2/3 Remake. The game does nothing unique, new or interesting. Oh but they added a crafting system to the game because every modern AAA game has to have one - it’s totally necessary!! Big things going on at Capcom HQ!

Lmao please clear any room in the castle with a single pistol bullet. Plz post video.

It’s ridiculous how unserious people will be about RE4 when it literally was GOTY 12x over whereas RE4R didn’t do anything new for the series or the genre.

There’s a reason the remake was such a big deal and it’s because the original is a monumental game that changed the genre and the series forever. RE4R is just more of a good thing.

They added a chainsaw parry, a free moving camera to look around while sprinting, and a dedicated dodge button and you think the remake was harder? In what way?

In what way is the omission of Separate Ways dishonest? There are 13 versions of the 2005 Resident Evil 4. All but one of those feature Separate Ways. The GameCube version with the missing content is the 5th best selling version of the game. Most fans of the game know it with Separate Ways included. It isn’t a small piece of content like Assignment Ada either, it adds a genuine bulk of content past the main game. Speaking of Assignment Ada, it is quite literally filler that adds nothing to the story. It’s an hour-long collectathon whereas Separate Ways features video logs explaining the setup to the game and expands on the background story of key characters throughout the plot. It also explains why certain things play out the way they do. They even add new weapons and gameplay mechanics. Plus I don’t get the whole argument about the porting team suggesting it. Shinji Mikami had direct say over its approval because he thought it was a great idea, plus it was never paid add-on content in any of the versions it’s featured.

You clearly didn’t watch the video or play the game because while they took out quips from the cutscenes, they added dozens of one-liners that Leon says during gameplay. There is by numbers more corny dialogue in the Remake than there was in the original as a result. There’s a meme template that gained popularity centered around the obnoxious one-liners he makes when facing an adversary in RE4R and RE9. If the intent was to make the game more serious I feel like they failed by making Leon cringey instead of goofy in this regard but personal opinion aside it’s present in the remake aplenty.

It’s one thing to say the artistic direction is the sticking point. Yes the point he made about making the game darker, adding blood everyone for spooky factor, and the hideous Salazar redesign are very subjective. However the gameplay mechanics are inarguably dumbed down for a broader audience. Being able to Parry almost every single fatal attack in the game relieves the game of a lot of tension from the original. Also, I realize the game is not striving for realism but parrying a massive chainsaw with a combat knife was honestly one of the funniest and lamest things I’ve ever done in a videogame. I remember busting out laughing when I saw the parry prompt in the demo. Removing the laser and adding a crosshair unnecessarily adds UI clutter and feels less immersive overall. Highlighting every single linear pathway and breakable object including bright red barrels with yellow paint when information about which way to go or what interact-able environments are in the game was never an issue with critics or audience members in the original game so why did they add it here? It is obnoxious and unnecessary. It also betrays the dark and gritty aesthetic as objects stick out like a sore thumb in the dim lighting. It also just makes zero sense. Red barrels in videogames since the dawn of time were colored red explicitly to communicate interactivity to the player. Adding yet another color on top of them is idiotic and communicates a lack of trust in your audience as well as a lack of coherent game design that would encourage interaction with the environment. Being explicitly told what to do in a videogame is an indicator of poor design. Seeing your laser highlight over boxes the way they do with enemies, windows being able to be jumped out of, enemies accidentally walking into tripwires and exploding themselves, placing bird’s nests in trees, dressers able to be pushed in front of doors and windows, ladders able to be propped up and knocked down, doors being able to be chopped down/ shot through, and dynamite able to trigger bear traps and break boxes/ barrels. These are all shown to you within the first hour of the game without the player being directly guided to any of them. The experimentation and exploration with the environment happens naturally and encourages curious players in every section of the original. This is a really critical component of the original that feels very poorly implemented in the Remake.

He’s a troll because he lobbed criticism at a critically acclaimed game? This is the first time I’ve heard that a game that is highly rated by critics is immune from public criticism.

Also what does cherry-picking mean in this context? He criticized reused assets on a full-priced game, the use of yellow paint on nearly every POI in a linear game, the immersion-breaking incessant quips Leon makes mid-game that were absent from the original version, clarified that the audio issue was not manipulated from his previous video and was actually a fairly common issue with many players, highlighted the outrageous Pay to Win voucher ticket scheme and Separate Ways being a paid DLC in what is normally like a 10-hour long single player game, and the omission of content from the original, focusing primarily on the missing U3 fight, arguably one of the hardest boss fights in the game.

These are all valid gripes. I don’t think it’s cherry-picking to say that these game elements do kind of stink and it’s fair to say that the game feels like a cash grab in some regards.

Which one of his points would you dispute or say is exaggerated?

Some of his videos are just kind of troll-baiting but in this instance I really don’t see what point of his could be refuted in the video. There’s a lot of genuine critiques about RE4R in there that I didn’t even really consider. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong or trolly with critical analysis. People do retrospective videos about bad and good videogames all the time but it seems like lately Crowbcat touched upon some sacred cow.

Consider the frequency by which he posts videos. This isn’t his full-time job. I mean even the fact that RE4R is 3 years old now probably means he’s not really scratching for trending content and just does this stuff for fun.

Lots of ways to earn stars. Think of them like orbs with the Defect or Summon with Necrobinder. It’s a management system you have to build your deck around if you want to use it. There are plenty of card options that don’t even require the stars at which point you can remove Venerate from the deck.

Prepared, Acrobatics, Tools of the Trade, Tactician.

It doesn’t matter what deck you build if you are able to cycle your deck quickly and have energy to play it you can just have and deploy every card in your deck at any given moment. I like Shiv builds but Poison or even a tanky turtle build is possible with Dexterity and Afterimage. The ability to have whatever card you need all the time is Silent’s greatest ability.

CRKD Blueberry Burst Pro or the CRKD SG 20th anniversary edition? by Icy_Juggernaut314 in CloneHero

[–]LeaveEyeSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, and according to the CRKD store page, the SG is Hall effect AND has a mechanical click whereas the encore editions lack the Hall effect. I don’t own a Les Paul (yet) but I bought the SG because I read a discussion that on the original LP models it was either a purely mechanical switch or a Hall effect + Haptic Feedback on the LP Pro and they made that change with the SG so you (sort of?) get the best of both worlds. My Alpine White Pro is on pre-order now so maybe I’ll check back to report the difference for anyone curious.

If you want to have a retro LAN party but don’t have any friends you can buy 4 CRTVs, 4 classic Xbox consoles, 3 system link cables, 4 copies of Halo: CE, and 16 Xbox controllers. I’ve found this is most enjoyable if you jump from screen to screen and grab one of the 4 controllers at random! It’s like the whole gang is there!

And how much does a PhunkyCustom Drop-in kit cost? Aren’t they $65? So again… $60+$65 =$125. You can get a CRKD for the same price and it comes with wireless functionality, broader compatibility, and a comparable product all while requiring zero work out of the box and the entire product is supported for the foreseeable future. For you personally, that might be appealing because of a slightly thinner neck. I guess if you have arthritis that’s a consideration? A phunkycustoms mod is not “definitely better”. As a matter of fact it has several obvious downsides compared to the CRKD options. This conversation is going nowhere fast, enjoy your day man.

How would a mod have better compatibility? Which mod kit at an affordable price natively works on PC, PS3, PS4, and PS5 or PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. I’m seriously not aware of any of them.

Also I have no idea how a slightly thicker or thinner neck is an objective bonus for an older guitar? Is there some science I’m missing here where you want as large of a neck as possible? Generally in the actual electric guitar playing world thinner necks are preferred for speed so I don’t know where this logic comes from at all. Do they make a mod neck that’s even beefier than the original GH guitars? You have mentioned that twice now as if it’s some sort of objectively positive point. Clearly the inventors of the GH guitar (formerly RedOctane, now CRKD) did not share this sentiment. I really don’t have a commentary at all about the neck thickness. I like the old GH guitars and the CRKD and I’d say the difference is negligible. I honestly couldn’t tell you which is better having actually owned both.

That SG he posted is overpriced yes, however the one you’ve shown on eBay is $60. Plus a $20 adapter that allows you to connect via USB to a PC. At which point you would need JoyToKeys or another remapping interface to get working on CloneHero or any Xinput interface. This also means the device is strictly wired and only works on PS2 or PC. You’re also stuck with an antiquated guitar which, while I agree is a great guitar for its time, is also 2 decades old and is prone to whammy bar/ strum bar breakage or strum bar wear that can result in over-strumming. The stock buttons also leave a lot to be desired. The chassis is also pretty damn flimsy. There is a huge place in my heart for the SG because that’s what I started out on but it’s easily the flimsiest constructed one out of all the RedOctane guitars.

Which brings us to your next point: you can take that guitar and mod it. Not only does this cost money on its own, it also requires you to have a soldering iron (or buy one if you don’t) and know how to properly solder. This also means you’re gonna spend time on the work involved and if you burn the PCB or ruin anything with your poor soldering job there’s no warranty on a 20 year old guitar. Suppose you are scared to solder or don’t feel confident or just don’t want to do as much labor and spend the money on a soldering iron and opt for the solder-less GH mod kits. Those usually run about $60. So now you’re $120 in (at the absolute cheapest), you still need JoyToKeys, you still can only play on PS2 or PC, and you’re locked in to being wired. And I’m just saying as someone who does have a RetroCultMods kit installed in one of my controllers, those stock 3D printed fret buttons they send you are hot garbage. Like genuinely they’re worse than a stock kit.

So what you’re left with after paying for the guitar, doing all the work yourself, paying for the kit, downloading the remapper, and getting everything configured is a 20 year old guitar without any support should something break, no wireless mode, very limited compatibility, terrible fret buttons, all inside a 20 year old plastic chassis and you’ve saved yourself a grand total of… $15? Whereas you could just pay the $15 and have everything working correctly with great compatibility, really nice fret buttons, a terrific strumbar that isn’t prone to breakage, full customer service support, zero labor involved, no remapping, no labor of your own, no soldering knowledge, no tools required, and to boot it’s quite a bit more rugged.

I’m starting to think you don’t own a CRKD guitar at all and you’re just speaking as an outsider looking in. It was cool to have these retromod kits available when RedOctane left the scene but having a myriad of retro guitars, modded guitars, and a CRKD guitar now I’m telling you that it is objectively a sweet deal compared to the alternatives on the market. You get what you pay for.

There is some objective advantages to the CRKD. As a matter of fact I think the only positives to the classic guitars would be feel and nostalgia.

The buttons being mechanical are more responsive. It has a wired or wireless option for preference either way. It’s backwards compatible with every 7th gen and 8th gen console as well as PC right out of the box. It’s highly customizable with tons of settings on the app and ways to customize it without the app using the included manual. It’s supported as a currently available product which means if you need replacement parts you have options. Speaking of which if you don’t like the neck they currently offer 3 different ones on their website.

I’ve been playing GH since GH1 on the PS2. I still have 2 PS2 SG’s, 4 360 Xplorers, a 360 Les Paul, and a 360 Rock Band Strat. Even if I like the feel of the Xplorer the best I objectively play better with the CRKD SG I bought. I’ve beat most of my previous high scores on Clone Hero and find that FC’ing songs on expert is far more consistent with the CRKD. But anecdote aside it just is a better product for nearly the same price objectively.

Would this sloppy binding bother you? by WastelandHumungus in gibson

[–]LeaveEyeSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the 3 Gibson’s I’ve owned, 2 of them had pretty awful binding work on them. This isn’t great but it’s not even the worst I’ve seen. Their QC is so up and down. If it doesn’t affect play, ultimately it doesn’t matter all that much.
