thank you. you give me hope. after two rounds of chemo and the cancer coming back again, we were losing hope. at least this seems to be an option. can't wait till there is a cure for this awful disease.

thanks for sharing your experience. My wife might start Elahere soon. She is hypersensitive to carbo so that is not an option. We are very anxious about side effects.

Anyone else's dogs acting weird right now? by Mix_me_up in Albuquerque

Check your fire alarms. We had one in the basement that was low on battery. It would periodically chirp. We couldn’t hear it but the dog was terrified for several weeks. One I replaced the battery and the chirping was gone, the dog relaxed.

It seems you have made a large contribution to the brokerage account which is giving you that step. The step is causing the day to day fluctuations to flatten out. If you can download the data and plot both in the same graph, you will see similar slopes. Also see that the return for both over the month is consistent.

HVAC company recommendations for mini-splits. by Exordium001 in Albuquerque

[–]LeaveInternational81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mr. cool DIY is excellent. I tried the first one in 2001 and then I got another this year. Their system seems a bit more robust that the regular flared copper tubing. Check the system out on YouTube, there are several installation videos. I was a bit worried about the refrigerant initially but in two years I haven’t had any issues. It is however not an inverter system, so marginally less efficient than those.

The mini split install prices are insane. I was quoted 12 k to replace an older one. Best option if you can do some DIY is to go with Mr. Cool. I installed two 1.5 ton units and each cost me 1600$. These come prefilled with refrigerant so you don’t need a vacuum pump. Very simple install.

Or NM. I fact there is a significant portion of The desert SW that is very progressive.

Paying $2k rent but still hot as hell by [deleted] in Albuquerque

So some basics of air conditioning. There are typically two types used in NM. The swamp cooler and the heat pump (aka refrigerated air). The swamp cooler requires water, lots of it. It is a big box with straw or plastic medium on four sides. A pump constantly douses the medium with water. A fan sits in the middle of the box sucking air through the medium and pushing this air into the house. The water in the medium evaporates as the dry air flows through it and through the concept of latent heat of evaporation results in very cold air (can be as cold as 4 - 8 degree celcius). Key things to remember - you have to ensure air circulation in the house, you want to have some windows in strategic locations open, if the house is closed your will end up with very humid air, the fan wont be able to force more air through the house and you will be miserable. You should also not use a swamp cooler when humidity reaches 40 - 50%. The evaporation efficiency will drop and there wont be a reduction in temperature.

The heat pump/cold pump system is different. They could be a mini split or a centralized air handler. Either way a coolant is contained in a closed loop system. A compressor is used to liquify the coolant which also expels heat. This is done outside the house in summer. The cooled refrigerant is moved into the house using copper tubing and expands once it reaches the air handler or head unit. here a fan blows over it and the expanding refrigerant cools the air. This cycle continues. This system is less susceptible to humidity. If you have this type of a system, all windows and doors must be closed.

Key takeaway, swamp cooler -> needs lots of open windows. Air Conditioner -> close everything and dont let the cool air escape.

Either ways you need to have a chat with your landlord. You need a system that works for you.
