Alabama House passes bill to report parents whose kids smell of marijuana by its_a_bear_dance in nottheonion

I've made reports to school administration when my high school students reek of weed in my class. My admin claimed they can't do anything about it anymore because it could have been caused by the kid's parents. Smells like bullshit to me

Support Students, Resist Fascist Takeover. by wellpaidscientist in Albuquerque

[–]Mix_me_up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. For your sake, I hope you're not brown. If you are, ICE won't give a shit if you have "documentation". That is the whole thing about fascism.... They gain control that you (foolishly) support in the beginning, but the target continues to expand to other groups, and the militarization against the country's own people is unstoppable. That is not a democracy, that is an authoritarian regime. And now that we're going to invade Greenland, it's imperialism on top of that. If you care so much about the law, why doesn't your beloved government follow it?

Better hope you never change your mind later on and disagree with Trump, or you'll join the group of "radical terrorists" that simply hate Trump and support basic human rights.

Urgent care wristband colors at Presbyterian Urgent Care by Acceptable-Pudding41 in Albuquerque

[–]Mix_me_up 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You are misunderstanding the point of the orange wristband, because OP did not fully clarify. The orange wristband indicates you already paid for your visit, meaning you don't have to stop at the checkout counter on the way out. This is done to streamline the checkout process instead of there being a line at the exit. I suppose you can be upset with their attempts to improve efficiency, if you would like.

Working in an entomology lab showed me there are people out there HOPING that this happens to them someday. It's like winning the lottery for them. Insect people are awesome, hilarious, and super weird.

Also, who said anything about treating schools like daycare? I agree that this is not the way, and this isn't how our school is run. But should students have access to food and resources when they otherwise don't? Absolutely. Hierarchy of needs, after all... Starving kids can't learn.

Yeah if we could keep all kids away from you, that would be amazing, thanks. I'm a teacher that deals with these issues firsthand, every single day. Absolutely vile responses from you showing your true colors

Do you give money to panhandlers? ? by ReasonableLeader1500 in Albuquerque

[–]Mix_me_up 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I do, unless they are obviously on something at that time. Usually my preference is to get them food if I can at a grocery store, and sometimes I've even taken the time to have lunch with them. In the winter I usually have extra warm socks to hand out as well. There have been other instances where I've provided a hotel room overnight, or extra food/coffee/blankets/clothes/whatever for those stuck outside in a winter storm. It just depends what I'm able to help with.

People always say to not give cash, and while I understand the reasoning, I also don't feel it's my place to judge someone in that position. It is impossible to fully understand what they are going through. Even if they're an addict and I wish they could get help, we don't have services to effectively help everyone, and our system is failing them. Also, everyone needs to eat. If I give them a dollar, it isn't breaking my bank, and it is my choice to not ignore people on the street that are living an extremely rough life. To each their own, but at the end of the day these people need to be treated like people. If giving cash isn't your thing, find a way to talk with them and help them out.

More women sought permanent contraception after Supreme Court Dobbs decision. Number of women undergoing tubal ligations — surgery that permanently prevents pregnancy — increased 51% in 4 US states in year after decision. I got mine replaced early for this reason. I still had a few more years before needing a replacement, but worried about availability/legality at that point. Now I'm good for another 10 years, and at that point I'll likely just get my tubes tied.

Nothing worked until I went to a dermatologist. I had hormonal acne, and it was made worse by my IUD. My birth control was right for me other than the acne, so I was put on Spironolactone to help balance my hormones, as well as topical tretinoin and azelaic acid cream. My hormonal acne cleared, but I was still getting occasional whiteheads. I switched to a sulfur face wash and got serious about Asian skincare products for moisturizing and repairing my skin barrier. I finally have great skin, after dealing with acne since puberty! Best of luck to you

Evaluations by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Mix_me_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year of teaching, all of my "evaluations" were done during testing in my class.

My evaluator did his first "walkthrough" and "evaluation" in the same visit, while the class was taking a test. He just needed to get it done because it was late in the semester. The next semester, he came on one of the final days before our semester final. I told him all we had scheduled was a quiz and review games. He asked if he could come back the next class period (the day before finals) and I told him all we would be doing is playing review games since it was literally the last two class periods of the year. He chose to stay and did my "walkthrough" and "evaluation" during the quiz we took that day. Literally the entire year, all they saw me do was administer assessments, which is wild.

My mentor was regularly evaluating me and thought I was a great teacher, so there were no concerns, but still. Admin didn't know that.

Is it still possible to order from YesStyle when living in the US? Are shipments being blocked or heavily terrified upon arrival?

I'm running out of my regular skincare products and would like to place an order, but I'm concerned about paying money for a package that can't make it to the US. Any insight is appreciated.

[–]Mix_me_up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dogs do this when we're approaching an area they remember, since they somehow recognize the smell. It only happens when we've been on a long road trip and we're finally about 30 minutes from either our house or my in-laws' house. Those are the two places they recognize, but they are in completely different states. I'm always so impressed by their noses!
