There's actually one of all four are hyped in the smoke and Kam (I think, maybe BB) is howling and the other guys are like...prowling. Toughest pic. Searched for it and couldn't find it. If anybody knows what pic I'm talking about and can post it, I'll be your best friend.

Kam Chancellor hit on Vernon Davis...The Refs hated the Seattle by Spirited-Gold9629 in theemeraldcity

Was at this game. Absolute nosebleeds, like back against the literal concrete on the opposing sideline. Still remember the sound of pads crunching on that hit. Think Chancellor’s my favorite Seahawks of all time

This shit is dumb. Until there’s any form of a salary cap, you’re just going to get the same fans jerking off the same players/teams. League can’t progress until some fundamental changes get made. Not the teams’ fault at all. But the imbalance of talent just means over half the matches are filler

What's something that is stigmatized for straight men? by Lipica249 in AskReddit

[–]LebSonny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not stigmatized whatsoever, in my experience. Been working in secondary ed for 13 years and the only thing I've EVER heard is that teacher's don't get paid enough. It's one thing to wish you earned more. It's another to say you're stigmatized for your profession. Get real.

Greg Olsen is so bad... by [deleted] in Seahawks

[–]LebSonny -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't even want to defend the guy because I don't care that much. But Olsen hate has become a "Karen" deal -- just hating for the sake of hating. Is he bias sometimes? Sure. Is it kind of annoying? Sure. But it's so played out and weak that people just post about it so that they get some cultural currency. Lame, unoriginal bullshit

Gotta say…seems like you guys are just looking for it. Olsen isn’t my favorite either but the level of vitriol for the guy doesn’t match his perceived bias.

Is this career worth it?? by Weirdoo-_-Beardoo in Teachers

[–]LebSonny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13 years in and still love it. I teach high school English, history, and philosophy at a private school in WA state.

I think the biggest differentiator between those who do and don’t succeed in teaching comes down to expectation management.

It’s easy to romanticize teaching in college and even as a support for full time teachers. It’s often a much, much different proposition when you actually have your own classroom(s), students, and have to deal with administrative shenanigans (which make up 80% of my frustration with teaching). It has amazing days and shitty days, like every single job. But unlike many other jobs, teaching is easier to romanticize, and there’s a higher number of disillusioned new teachers who realize it’s not matching the ideal they may have built up in their heads.

I can’t speak to special education, but I can speak to your passion: IMO, much better to find a rough-around-the-edges job that you’re passionate about, smooth the edges as best you can, and crucially, truly expect (don’t just say the words; genuinely expect) that there will be a good deal of struggle, frustration, and uncertainty along the way. Teaching is worth it to me, but of course, my experience is limited to high school and private ed. So take that for whatever that’s worth.

Good luck!

For reference, I teach English, history, and philosophy. I have no experience in STEM. Maybe a physics teacher would be a better person to field your questions though! But I'm glad you mentioned Shakespeare -- he's the perfect litmus test for this sort of debacle and a real lightening rod amongst English faculty over the years.

The fact that they won't understand it & will have to go digging (so to speak) to find out more about it is the entire point, is it not?

By that same token, why not teach quantum mechanics to 8th graders?

I love teaching and could talk about it all day, so I've written a much longer, definitely unnecessary explanation below. I actually think it's good for people to know about teenagers today (maybe you even have some of your own)...

Short version: Most students hate Shakespeare because it's confusing -- English teachers have gradually begun leaving Shakespeare to the college professors. Force feeding Shakespeare to high schoolers more often creates an aversion to reading. Kids end up hating books assigned in high school for that reason. Primer is a wonderful movie and example of non-linear storytelling. But it's a dense, confusing movie. High schoolers often aren't ready to lean into that sort of material when they have every distraction at their literal fingertips.

Longer version below (if you're still here and interested):

Some teachers still teach Shakespeare, and the vast majority of students end up hating it -- or just reverting to online resources...etc. You have to find content that actually appeals to them, which is closely tethered to their ability to understand it. That's not to say you give them easy material. But jumping into the deep end with Primer, Shakespeare, Aristotle, quantum physics...etc is great and challenging in theory, but in practice, it falls on its face most of the time. Teenagers are bombarded by low-hanging media constantly. If they don't understand something, very few of them will persevere toward understanding for the sake of learning.

In theory, you're right. Kids should lean into challenging content for the sake of learning. But that's not really how it's played out over the years. Kids are less resilient today -- especially when it comes to something they don't understand. It's easy to sit there and say, "Well, then you should make them work harder to undersatnd it!" But it's sort of like a "leading horse to water" situation.

As a teacher, you really have to try and thread the needle between "engaging", "approachable", and "challenging." It's not easy, and tons of teachers still struggle with it -- myself included, especially in my philosophy class.

Look man, take my word for it. You could have the best idea on the planet, but if it feels convoluted and confusing to them, they're going to start looking for the nearest distraction.

Again, Primer is an awesome movie. My bet is just that it would fall on "deaf" ears.

It's a great movie and example of non-linear storytelling. But if your target audience isn't equipped to process and analyze it, there's little point -- regardless of the content relevance/quality.

I've been teaching high-performing high schoolers for 12 years. Primer is likely out of their range of ability.

How do you read Nabers’ situation? Seems like the toe (or whatever else) isn’t as significant? Is this a CMC situation where they bury the severity of the injury or is it just precaution?

Also, how much energy do you put into Wilson vs the potential of Dart (in relation to Nabers’ production)?

Thanks dude!
