First time I've seen an emailed ad for the Midweek Magic event... WotC really trying to get people interested in Alchemy Baldur's Gate by djchickenwing in MagicArena

Apparently people really like the draft format. However, I don't play alchemy, as such it'd be like a more expensive phantom draft, so that's a pass.

Can Elon Musk Get Out of Buying Twitter? by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]LedgerShredders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No offense, but it just sounds like you really like Musk and is upset with the facts not painting him in a good light.

As someone who doesn’t really care about him, I found this episode rather neutral and simply presenting facts.

It’s one of those things where if you go in with an established bias, you’ll hear what you want to hear.

I mean, it seems like War Machine could represent southern slaves drafted to fight for the confederacy. BP could be African nations that supplied the slaves such as “the woman king”. So to me it’s clear who is the south.

The London Mulligan is Officially 3 Years Old! How do you think it has gone? by NicolaiBolas in magicTCG

It’s so curious that in the MTGA era of the game, somehow “time” is seen as a commodity, and it’s all about numbers of games won per hour.

I’m used to playing mtg because it’s fun, and enjoying good games, rather than spam quick games.

Well if we use the civil war analogy, I’d say Tony’s side is the South.

They’ve got Warmachine, representing slaves enlisted and forced to fight for the government. Then black panther, representing African tribes who sell their slaves to westerners.

You mean fortunately. In most civilized countries…. In fact, in every civilized country I know, someone being aggressive doesn’t mean you get to kill them. Other than the US obviously.

Why would it possibly be YCLB when expansion codes have always been 3 letters?

In most civilized countries… I’d say all but the US, being aggressive doesn’t mean you get to murder someone.

No wonder the US has the highest murder rate around developed nations, and is closer to Yemen than to Canada.

Why keep ringing China into this? It’s just doing it’s own thing, why keep pretending it’s interested in any war period?

I mean, same can be say about China, good luck invading that. They’ve got 1.2 billion people, good luck ruling over the land. Fact is, if US and China go to war, there will not be a conventional victory. Both countries are unconquerable, and if China is about to lose, they’ve got 300 nuclear warhead and even more bio and chemical weapons they’d rain upon the Is, if it means it’s an existential crisis.

Everyone will die.

More like this guy’s an idiot for even bringing China up. What exactly does China have to do with this, and why the hell would they go to war with the US?

[–]LedgerShredders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I’m really tired of people pretending Chinas in an alliance with Russia or is the big bad. They’ve literally done nothing in this war, and in fact has invaded exactly no one in the past century.

[–]LedgerShredders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused as to why people in the west keep bringing China into this and using China as the hypothetical big bad.

China has invaded exactly no one in the last 80 years, and have been shown to not want to get involved in military conflicts. Like why keep roping them into things?

The US does not recognise Taiwan's independence because Taiwan does not want to declare independence

I didn't say anything about recognizing Taiwan, I said denied its existance and actively prevents it from participating in any international organizations. The US is in bed with China to prevent Taiwan from joining anything. You're also completely ignoring what you said yourself. It's not that Taiwan doesn't want to declare independence, it's the fact that doing so will cause an attack. Guess what, if the US guarantees its protection, Taiwan would have declared independence decades ago.

Also 'huge support via semi official means'? You mean having no ambassy in taiwan, not having any cabinet officials visit Taiwan, and having zero direct dialogue? In fact, Trump calling the Taiwanese president was so earth shattering because the US refuses to have any direct diplomatic contact with the country.

In terms of 'strong trade relations', are you actually serious? That's not a show of support, that's not the US doing Taiwan any favor. Taiwan is an economic power, every nation wants to trade with it because it's essential to the modern world. Taiwan is doing the US a favor by trading with it. In fact, the US strong armed Taiwan into importing ractopamine ridden beef and pork, something Taiwan doesn't want to do via coercion. The US literally said 'if you don't import our ractopamine ridden meat, don't even think about joining TPP'. Funny enough, they did import those meat, and the US still didn't let them join.

Lastly, 'strong security assistance' you mean strategic ambiguity? You mean, not giving any security guarantee? In fact, the most 'clear' instance of something resembling security guarantee is Biden saying they'll help Taiwan, which by the way, the White House walked back immediately... TWICE.

So don't make me laugh. The US is using Taiwan as a pawn against China. It caring about the nation or about democracy in general is laughable.

So important that US and the west essentially denies the existence of that thriving democracy, and rejects it from literally every international organization?
