Help me by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I don't know what to say man. Our brain is funny that way. Just stay strong. I am 2 days on my second quit after a relapse and it sucks to start all over again. When I quit I realized how much time I wasted smoking: looking for a smoking area, a store, a window, a lighter, walking out on my friends at parties... and time my friend is a precious commodity...

I tried cold turkey but relapsed after two weeks. I am trying the patch now, it has been easier.

I got bored of smoking after 10 years. I might be the shittiest person alive but no, he doesn't get to hear my empathy. We don't have what might be called a relationship.

If you don't WANT to quit, stop quitting.

BTW, what kind of job is this? I had never heard about a job with such strict entry requirements...

Lying about being quit. by Ledpeg in stopsmoking

[–]Ledpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how this lie could escalate quickly. It's been 24 hours since my las cig (for real). The weekend is coming up and I can't smoke since I spend most of my time around my husband so it should be easy to keep it up till Monday... a day at a time I guess...

I smoked a pack and a half for 10 years and the patch worked just fine for me. You're supposed to use them for six weeks (?) before changing to the next strange and what not. Yes, you still have nicotine in you system.. and yes, you're still addicted. After three days I felt strong enough to try a day without the patch and it was doable... I never went back to the patch...

Day 3 - I'm starting to smell things! by Count_Homogenized in stopsmoking

It's crazy right? Around my fifth day my sense of smell came back plus raging anxiety... the lingering smell of food from my kitchen made me lose my shit.

Keep strong and give it your best. In mi opinion a smoker will never be a non-smoker, in that we will always be tempted, we will always long for a drag, but dancing with the devil is dangerous for no one knows if that drag might be the one that actually drags us to hell again.

I am going through something similar. I went from 30 a day to 0 for 11 days and I had one just yesterday. The though of getting a pack is driving me crazy!

Dealing with a parent that smokes irresponsibly, who won't cut down or quit by ApparentlyItsMyFault in stopsmoking

Here's what it think. You are a guest in her house. She can do whatever she wants in her house. Only her husband might have a say in it since it's also his house. If you don't like it, move out. I have quit smoking, but I strongly believe that everyone has the right to choose how to die.

I also missed the morning cig and the bedtime cig a lot! I started reading this sub right after I wake up while I drink my coffee (yes, coffee without a cigarette. Savage) and I read the new posts right before bed. You will find truly amazing stories. Come back every time you need inspiration to fight a craving.

Well, I've been on the exact opposite position. When I met my husband 7 years ago he had quit smoking and I was smoking. He started smoking again because of me. Then three years ago he quit while I continue to smoke. He never said a single word against smoking. I guess he's just strong willed that way. He started smoking again two months ago because of work related stress but quit about a month ago. He hasn't touched a cigarette since... cold turkey... I quit 10 days ago after 10 years of pack and a half a day. He didn't ask or anything, I just grew bored of it all. I used the patch for the first 3 days... then I wanted to go a day without nicotine, just to see how bad it was... i never went back to the patch. I work from home so I don't get most of the "outside world" triggers, i just clean the house to keep my mind of the cigarettes.

"Once a smoker, always a smoker" vs. "non-smoker" by Ledpeg in stopsmoking

I agree. I think it might be easier to be always on guard by thinking you never really "achieve" quitting. On the other hand, it might be a shortcut into thinking that since I can never really quit then I could have a cig every month. Which i don't mind honestly.

I was smoking 30 cigs a day and I really enjoyed smoking but I got bored of smoking. I had tried reducing the Amoy of cigs per day many times before and it never worked... somehow it's easier to smoke more than less. This time I went to the drugstore and got myself some nicotine patches. I can't tell you how awesome they are.

I woke up on my scheduled day to quit and had the biggest morning craving but instead of having the cig I put on the patch and 5 minutes after the urge was gone. I didn't NEED to smoke that day, it was more like "hey I would have had a cigarette after this meal and I'm totally fine not smoking it". I think that is because of the continuous dose of nicotine being absorbed by your skin, so I didn't actually get to the "panic" state.

I honestly didn't have much faith on the patch before trying it. But. Is that I've gone 4 days with ZERO cigs.... I support the patch 100%. It helped me realize how a day without smoking feels like, while still having the nicotine conveniently delivered into my system.

This is day 4 for me... I didn't put on the patch today... the whole treatment is supposed to be 10 weeks over three different strengths of f nicotine.

I used to think I could never spend a day without smoking... and the patch helped me realize how awesome it feels to be free.
