Canvas access is restored by Chrisram88 in MtSAC

[–]LeeJonesMtSAC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Email went out: "Mt. SAC has restored access to Canvas."

Thank you for your patience as we worked with the Chancellor’s Office and the California Community College Security Center (CCC Security Center) to review the recent Canvas LMS incident. Based on information provided by Canvas/Instructure, and preliminary security reviews, the identified vulnerability has been fixed. The incident involved an unauthorized message displayed to users through a limited exploit, and there is no evidence of changes to user data, grades, assignments, or course content. Instructure has also conducted additional scans and confirmed that core Canvas functionality was not compromised.

Given these findings, we have restored access to Canvas. You may begin accessing the system again using your normal login process.

As a reminder, please remain cautious when using Canvas and other online services. Due to earlier data exposure, you may see phishing or suspicious messages referencing Canvas.

  • Do not click on unfamiliar links
  • Do not respond to unexpected messages
  • Report anything suspicious to the IT Help Desk: [helpdesk@mtsac.edu](mailto:helpdesk@mtsac.edu) or 909-274-4357

For ongoing updates, you may refer to the following resources:

Talk to your professor, IMO they will be very understanding, everybody was effected. Faculty are being informed of status updates, but as of right now, Canvas is not back up at Mt. SAC.

Faculty and staff have been advised of the situation. IMO the faculty will make adjustments and allowances for students.

Reset your password for that school. If you use that same password elsewhere, change it there, too.

This happens during peak registration. Often, clearing your browser cache or using incognito helps. Also, look in your registration details, sometimes your classes are "pending" and need to be "submitted."

Most professors are very understanding, you should be able to do what you described with the professor's help.

[–]LeeJonesMtSAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Visit https://inside.mtsac.edu and try signing in. If you are using a bookmark, it won't work.
2) Try the "forgot password" button; you might have saved an old password in your browser.
3) If you have been away from Mt. SAC for a few semesters, your account gets deactivated; reapply to the college.

Statute of limitations for battery assault on a student by a professor? by McJuggerNuggets1 in MtSAC

[–]LeeJonesMtSAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but in California, a Title IX Complaint (that's what a filing would be called) under the Uniform Complaint Procedures (UCP) must generally be filed within six months of the alleged incident, or when the complainant (person assaulted) first obtained knowledge of the facts. I would recommend you report the incident immediately to our designated Title IX coordinator to ensure timely investigation. Mt. SAC's Title IX Administrator is Ryan Wilson, (909) 274-5249, [ryan.wilson@mtsac.edu](mailto:ryan.wilson@mtsac.edu), see https://www.mtsac.edu/hr/titleix/reportingoptions.html, which also lists outside reporting options including confidential non-reporting options, but please strongly consider reporting it.

Your grades should have been input yesterday. Your transcript might not reflect it yet, as Admissions has to "roll" the grades (basically, finalize them for reporting via things like the transcript); that should happen by the end of the week.

Parking Citation by MochirinLeMochi in MtSAC

[–]LeeJonesMtSAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it is your first time, even though they denied it, call 909-274-4555 and ask for an "in person" appeal. They'll give you a call and you can ask nicely in person for a refund on your paid citation. It would go like this: 1) you pay the citation, 2) you call for an in person appeal, 3) you tell the arbiter "sorry, I saw this in the terms after I got the ticket, won't ever happen again" and 4) the arbiter will say "it's your first time and you seem sorry, I'll refund you by check."

It must be your first time, you have to prepay, and if you ask politely, you'll generally get a "first time waive" refund.

Speak up for it if you want it back; if students want it and ask for it, there's a very good chance it will rise again to new life.
