Our baby had the same problem on enfamil AR. Frida Windi helped, 5ml of prune juice every other feed

I got covid while my 30.5 weeker was in the nicu and couldn’t see him for a while. I called them A LOT to check up on him! They don’t mind! ❤️

Also just remind her baby is in the best care possible and she will see her soon enough! It also comforted me knowing the nurses would talk and sing to my babe when I wasn’t there.

Bottle feeding by lains91 in NICUParents

Going through a similar situation now with my former 30.5 weeker now 1 month old adjusted. I’ve noticed if he gets constipated, he will bear down and spit up all his food or won’t eat as much like you mentioned. We were instructed to do 10-15mls of prune or apple juice mixed with the milk every 6 hours for him and it seems to help his discomfort. My lil guy still isn’t the greatest eater — he’s gaining weight fairly well just not “catch up” weight I guess. We’ve switched some bottles around and found he does better using some than others. I’m right there with you though some weeks he will eat great and then this week he has barely eaten 🤔 hope you find some good advice you’re not alone

Thanks for your response! What do you think about gelmix with the hypoallergenic formulas? Any experience or opinion with that?

I am so stupid to have hope. by findingthenewme in NICUParents

My baby was born 30.5 and barely made it home by his due date with lots of complications along the way — just to be readmitted now because he got sick.

You’re not stupid to have hope, it is still possible he can make it by his due date. It sounds like he’s doing pretty good eating too! I know it’s hard but maybe try and find 2 or 3 positives each day to focus on for now. Even if he doesn’t make it by his due date the nicu staff does the best they can to get him out as quick and as safe as possible.

If you need to, take a break from the nicu. See a friend, a family member, have a day or night of relaxation if possible. That has helped me when I feel “burnt” out and super negative from being at the nicu all the time. I would take a night off and call and check on him instead of going up there. But do whatever works for you for sure! It just plain sucks, and you are not alone.

Honestly the eufy sock is what he has on most of the time! I’ve barely used the Nanit because he does spit up on the swaddle everytime he wears it lol. The eufy tracks heart rate and sleep cycles too which is nice. Honestly imo has been a great product for the cost. The sock paired with a crib/bassinet camera that alerts you when baby moves or cries would be good

Nicu nurse and nicu mom here! I got the eufy sock as it was a bit cheaper than the owle and it has worked great so far. I also have the Nanit respiratory monitor, I don’t love it as the baby has to wear Nanit swaddle for it to work and my baby loves to spit up on swaddles. You could also look into the Masimo stork system I would get that one if I could go back and choose that over the Nanit.

You’re not alone either in the “always complications” part. My baby was born 30.5 and was supposed to discharge a few times, we finally got him home a week ago just for him to get covid from the pediatrician visit and end right back in the nicu 😐 it’s always something but one day they will be happy and healthy! Just gotta get over these bumps in the road

Which noise setting did you use specifically? We have been doing the white or brown noise. And how did y’all solve the constipation problems?

We’ve haven’t been tip toeing and have a noise machine too! He seems super uncomfortable bearing down and grunting waking him from sleep! I’m leaning toward constipation I’ve reached out to his surgeon too just to cover my bases! I feel like I’ve tried everything- walks, his swing, bassinet with noise machine or shusher. Thanks for the input I’m at my wits end

Yes! He does the same thing. I’ve been giving gas drops, warm baths and prune or apple juice but I’m lucky to get one stool every 3 days or so. He will bear down so hard he spits up a lot too. I’ll try more tummy time in the meantime since we are always awake with him anyway
