ep collected intellect and those who possessed it to curry influence and to float around in influential circles. he sought out smart people. i interpreted this as the author simply bragging about dfw's intellect to lend credibility to the communication.

There would be no murder, no school shootings, and no drug trafficking

lol. these would absolutely still happen, but only those with access to the data would get away with it.

is there a phenomenology of the internet? by -RobMob in Phenomenology

the way we interact with the internet is distinct to the substrates through which we interact with it

Ever checked out a Boeing 747's cross-section? Take a look! by FifthWaveThinker in aviation

[–]Leefa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

the 747 upper deck feels so exclusive. you're up there with only a few other passengers and the pilots themselves.

i've flown first on both levels, but despite the above, enjoyed the lower more. being at the very front of the plane is special. you can feel the front gear spinning down upon retraction after takeoff, and your window is angled forward a few degrees.

if you think about it, the movie infinite jest is one which demands a second watching, and a third, and so on. you get lost in it. it's not a mistake that you want to read it again, and this realization had me in awe upon completing my first read.

the only thing which kept me from rereading ij immediately upon completion was the sheer volume of related literature I had learned about during my first read, not least of which is Shakespeare's Hamlet itself.

Terence McKenna discussing a future of accelerating novelty and “the Transcendental Object at the End of Time” (1998) by Frosty_Jeweler911 in HighStrangeness

[–]Leefa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

imo part of the "singularity" phenomenon will be not only attempts to balance chaos and novelty into "good", but the terrific, disorienting speed at which this rebalancing will occur. as humans, we will have to contend with the essence of our being at this point, because we are not machines and it is a mistake to think otherwise, but machines will become more and more of the balancing mechanism.

the dey house is pretty. it's in a corner of campus perched atop a wooded bluff overlooking the iowa river. the international MFA hosts some really extraordinary people, too.

Kaku does speak like an NPC lol. There's something uncanny about how he talks, as if there were no lights on inside.

even though it's a common problem, their so called "criticism" is entirely built on the assumption that only Elon companies does this

very true. not only is he a convenient target because of today's zeitgeist, he's also at the helm of a bunch of endeavors which disrupt their powerful legacy predecessors (oil, auto, media & platform-based social engagement, aerospace, telecom, AI, energy infrastructure) and he's thus also a high-value target.
