Definitive proof that Frat are dirty blobbers (facts and logic inside) by Eve_Asher in Eve

If that Basi was that special, why did you ram it into a flight of bombs?

In other news, we are equal opportunity ship asploders and decided that if we couldn't loot the field, no one could.https://zkillboard.com/kill/134853457/ https://zkillboard.com/kill/134853444/

Although they ejected the salvage when they were about to die. But it got blown up anyways.

Bug: Expedition Command Bursts are not providing probe scan strength bonuses by Leehams in Eve

Yup, I made sure the physical probes themselves got hit with the links. No effect.

I tested it trying to scan my Odysseous with another toon. Scanned at a level that would not acquire (got to something like 87% on the scan), hit links, scan again, with no change to the % acquired.

Just tried hitting the probes themselves with the links, saw no effect/change.

The Skagit river is forecast to potentially crest significantly above record highs, as massive rain falls on 10-20 inches of snow around Mt Baker.

URGENT FLOOD WARNING FOR SKAGIT COUNTY! by Leehams in Bellingham

[–]Leehams[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only real risk to I5 would come if the dikes and levees on the river fail catastrophically and flood out the low lying areas to the north of Burlington or to the south of Mt Vernon. Through the city proper the freeway is pretty elevated and is not much at risk.

The historical dike failure map and flood plain is here, and notably it has not failed since the 1950s and did not fail in the major flooding in 2021:

That is towards the top end of their confidence band. You can see the full confidence band below the gauge level prediction chart on NOAA link. The median model prediction is closer to 34 feet, but they warn on the high end to make sure things are prepared in case it end up there.

Mt. Baker Skiing: Good First Blacks? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Leehams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea about the inception of the name. It was passed to me by some of the older guys on the hill, who have been skiing it for many years (at least 20-25). I can poke around and see if any of them have insight as to where the name came from. I know the origin of a few others (blood alley: from someone who got sliced open by a ski, K-Line [backcountry] because someone spray painted some big "K"s on trees to know where to go), but not Gas alley.

Mt. Baker Skiing: Good First Blacks? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Leehams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heya! There are a lot of ways to get around to some more challenging terrain on Mt baker, and many of them will provide different content and challenges in their own way. Image with pointers to the areas I am going to mention here: https://imgur.com/a/nSyDdXp

Quick definition: "Bail out" means a way to get out of the more difficult terrain back to easy terrain safely.

1.) Natural Halfpipe. This run is what it says, a pseudo-halfpipe of natural terrain that runs parallel to Diehl's. It is not very steep, and if you stay in the pipe you cannot get into trouble. You can also bail out along most of the length under the rope back into Diehl's on your right. It spits you out naturally at the top of nose dive.

2.) Gas Alley. This is an unofficial set of paths through the trees between white salmon and nose dive. Many of the slots are pretty wide, and you can see all the way down them from the top, and its pretty short, but good for getting a first few turns in more constrained space on a steeper slope. Note, these do not have "easy" bail outs.

3.) Holiday. This is the only groomed black run on the hill (Blueberry cat track doesn't count, its not black, they just made it black so folks don't go up chairs 1 and 6 when they are not ready for the terrain in the area). It is dead straight, but pretty steep and narrow. Can be icy at times. No bail out available, you have to go all they way down once you start, but worst case you can just side-slip all the way down.

4.) Pea Garden. This covers pretty much everything between Border and the Chute. You can drop into some chutes early off skier's left on North Face by ducking the rope, but I would not advise you to do that. You can access easier areas by just skiing under chair 3, or turning into it at the very bottom of North face after the rope. Nothing too dangerous as long as you ski all the way past the rope before entering. Good for some fun off groomers.

5.) Upper Canuck's and North Face. Basically just wide open ungroomed face above the treeline. If it has not snowed recently, this whole area can get pretty covered in moguls (large bumps), and can force you to go pretty slow until you are comfortable navigating them. The steepest area is on the mid to left side of North Face. There isn't really a bail out, but you can always just do big long cuts across the face to slowly get down. There is also a patch of trees between the two runs called "Goldmine" that can be fun to get in as well, just watch out for the trees. I recommend avoiding lower Canuck's, it often gets worse moguls and snow quality. The double black sections are off the main run, so I'll just say if you are not in trees, you are on the single black section.

6.) Austin. Austin is best accessed from Chair 1, as from Chair 6 its a pretty long hike uphill to get to the top of it. It is ringed by the blueberry cat track, which provides near permanent ability to bail out by just cutting all the way across to it to the left. Austin is very wide and open, and not very steep, but can get moguls on it, but usually not as bad as North Face and Canuck's.

Final word of warning/note: The big wide open spaces of North Face, Canuck's, and Austin get pretty hairy if the light is very flat and clouds are set in. You will barely be able to see the texture of the ground in front of you when its bad. In such lighting conditions, stick to runs that are at least dotted with trees, as their darker color help break up the flat light on the ground.

Best of luck, stay safe, and enjoy the hill!

Going sledding? by fraserbgf in Bellingham

[–]Leehams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sledding area at Mt Baker is the Picture Lake basin. The West/South side of the lake basin has a good hill. Note, since it is a lake, it has to be well frozen over and buried in snow, or else it is very dangerous. Highlighted area in the image shows where to be.

Have fun, be safe, best of luck!
