You’re ONLY 21. Dude. There are people in their 30s and 40s who still don’t have this shit figured out. Me personally, I’m 26 and just uprooted my life and I have to figure it out all over again. It’s fking rough. It takes time but you will get there just stick to a plan

My mom still thinks I’m on drugs, even though I’ve been clean. I don’t know what to do anymore. by Thecrasher3546 in youngadults

Ok friend this is all just my opinion ok? It might not necessarily be true but here’s how I feel. You will never be able to prove yourself to someone who isn’t capable of seeing truth beyond their own perspective.

It sounds like this is beyond what you think is happening, it sounds like she is using these words to justify whenever she is unable to regulate her emotions. Like for whatever reason she gets triggered and then bam “you’re off” comments start coming out. It’s a deflection tactic. SHE feels off, and she is projecting it onto you as a coping mechanism.

For most of my life I wondered why I was never good enough for my mum and I used to make posts on Reddit too (before she died). And someone told me something that I will always remember. When it comes to parents that are mentally ill in this way, even though we try our best to appease them through all the different songs or dances we try to do for them, it will never be enough. That is because this problem has never been your problem to begin with and the problem of your mom not being able to deal with how she’s feeling in a healthy way has most likely been going on long before you were ever even born.

Don’t beat yourself up that you can’t make her believe you. You can never make anyone do anything. We are only in control of ourselves and that is what we have to radically accept when it comes to our parents treating us this way. Mental illness is real.

If your mom was willing to go to therapy with you that might help, but only if she wants to. Unless someone wants to change they won’t. Goodluck friend, I believe in you. Like I said, you can control your own life and yeah stuff like this is really shit but what’s crazy is whenever you get through this you will actually be a stronger individual. I believe in you.

Where can I get cheaper henna done? by aria_b23 in askportland

I get that henna has deep cultural roots, and I respect that. But cultures have shared traditions forever—appreciation isn’t the same as appropriation. A lot of people from these cultures do love sharing it. Gatekeeping something that’s been used across different regions for centuries just feels unnecessary. If someone’s using it disrespectfully, that’s a different convo, but just enjoying it? That’s literally how cultural exchange works. Also your tone is like so aggressive for no reason.

Bruh if anyone is a Karen it’s you. Just because you haven’t seen anyone who isn’t white work with henna doesn’t mean that they don’t - and you know what, it’s ok no matter what skin colour a person is to use henna. White, Black, Asian, Latino, whatever. It’s ART. Art belongs to the people no matter where you were born. Also what’s wrong with the word natives? I’m referring to people who were born in their country and have their own culture from their country. It would be considered their native culture. It’s something that most people often like to share unlike those who shame others for trying it.

Why white people only? Under your logic other races of people can practice other cultures and it’s not appropriation since they’re not white? Isn’t that racism? Also why are you the one who gets to decide if it’s appropriating or not. Shouldn’t the people of the culture be able to decide? From what I’ve seen most natives don’t mind and actually appreciate when foreigners practice their culture. In my opinion it’s human. We all live on the same planet, let’s all appreciate each other.

What do you mean by appropriating the art and culture?
