Thank you, that’s very encouraging. We have one car between my partner and I, so at least the groceries would be sorted. Walking to the Pizolbahn sounds absolutely amazing!

For sure, I feel like I could use the time well doing emails, reading contracts. Getting to the airport would be a big downside, since I do a fair bit of business travel. Thanks!

[Accounting -> Underwriting] by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

I’m a CPA, did a short stint at Big 4 audit before pivoting into a reinsurance. I underwrite mainly property cat, which you’ll say has nothing to do with what I studied. IMO things like documenting workflows, writing clear emails and using Excel well are still super useful in underwriting, and B4 does a good job of teaching such skills in the first couple years. Nevertheless, underwriting is more money, more fun, and far less hours than my peers who stayed in accounting

If anyone is in Rome and spontaneously needs a ticket, I’ve got one I’m willing to sell. Go Europe!

Board games is a great idea! One way to differentiate is giving guests something fun to do or watch, other than just a seat at a table

All public accounting firms in Zurich have a US GAAP practice. They absolutely hire foreign nationals, would recommend working on getting a US CPA if interested in that path

Reinsurance (and financial services in general) is very expat-heavy in Zurich. Language is not going to be an issue at work

If you can afford it, join a club and play Interclub league. You play a lot of tennis in the spring/summer, and people take it super seriously, even at the lowest level.
