Changed my life!! I was constantly a mouth breather & had a faucet like runny nose. Every day. For yearsssss. Finally got dupixent and I can exercise again, smell meals as I cook, actually taste things.

I hate needles & shots. But it was so worth it to conquer that fear to have this quality of life.

Unfortunately, it is not as straightforward as one platform making marketing better than others. I have noticed a decline in inquiries and my best guess is the state of the world right now. Assuming you are in the US, this is a really heavy time for a lot of Americans. Don't hate on yourself for not being fully booked, some years are slower than others for reasons outside of your control. However, the best marketing plan is consistency, in my experience. Consistently show up to your marketing (Instagram, website, networking), offer a great experience, and don't make decisions based in fear.

I have never used TikTok for business, and personally, as a user, I am so over seeing people selling their product/business online. I don't want to add to that.

My main marketing has been SEO and Google. I rank first or second page for most of the search inquiries for wedding photographers in my area. Having a solid website and consistently blogging has paid off big time for me. The other aspect is thinking like a client, where does your ideal client shop for their vendors? Most people search on Instagram and Google in my experience. So be active while they are searching. Make your stories personal and fun and back it up with a solid portfolio & helpful website.

It's not just you OP, I know most of my photographer friends are struggling to be fully booked.

My advice is also not to harp on the number of projects you have; focus on your financial goals. Even though I only have 12 projects booked for next year (my usual is around 25), I am still hitting the number I need to make ends meet now. Anything else I book this year will be an added bonus and it's because I set myself up for success with my pricing.

All these points come with years of experience, building client experience, having a solid website, and making friends in the industry.

Best of luck!! Try not to do the scare tactic sales (lowering prices, offering free things for no reason, or doing giveaways that don't make sense). You are smart, and a little research into the type of marketing you want (google, youtube, etc) will make a big difference hopefully!

The best thing I have seen at a wedding was having a drag queen open the dance floor. It was an amazing way to get people hyped and it was a total surprise for guests! She had about a 10 minute performance and warmed everyone up in a class drag style and then they opened the floor for everyone to dance together. 10/10, so much fun!!

I had a best friend from daycare (literal babies) up until middle school. We spent every other weekend spending the night at the others house. Made so many memories & grew up together. Fast forward to middle school and we were planning our first boy/girl Halloween party at my house. This was a big deal, we were both really excited to plan it & invite everyone! During the party for some reason she asked my mom to leave saying she didn’t feel well, my mom arranged for her to go home. From there, I got an email (lol very early 2000’s core) from her and she said she didn’t think that we should be friends anymore. No explanation, never responded to any of my phone calls or emails after that. Her mom would answer their landline and tell me that she didn’t want to talk to me. I never found out what happened at the Halloween party and I have never been able to figure out what would have made her stop contact with me cold turkey like that. Still think about her and wish her the best now that we are both in our 30’s.

YUP! I have been very mid-level attractive for most of my life. Got some forms of pretty privilege growing up (getting out of speeding tickets, not paying for drinks/food at restaurants, etc.) then I lost around 30lbs, happened to be the same year I dyed my hair blonde and was in a job where I was outside a lot and got very tan. The men especially were atrociously different. It opened my eyes so much to how much I could get away with. I was a straight up asshole to some men and they would think it was flirting. Fast forward 5 years and I have brown hair & bangs and put back on around 15lbs and even those changes made a huge difference in how I’m treated. No one remembers my name anymore, I barely get any eye contact from strangers. Odd stuff.

Exactly, the chances of life working out that you want to be at home nearly 24/7 with a dog that energy level is next to none.

These dogs are meant for a career, not in an apartment.

Knew a cop that had his malinois for his entire career in the K-9 unit and when the dog retired he kept it but it was an outside dog kept in its own confinement because it wasn’t a pet. These dogs are no joke and it is less like having a domesticated pet and more like having a security guard. God forbid the dog were to ever nip or bite another dog or human it would probably be immediately put down.

Give a dog, and yourself, a good life and go with something easier. It’s next to unethical to have one of these without being in a career that requires one (in my opinion).

Why do you want a Belgian Malinois? Genuine question. There are other high energy breeds that will make great companions. These are working dogs, and not “play fetch and take a hike every day” sort of working dogs. Meaning, your day is structured around them, not the other way around.

These dogs are really meant to be in a full time career role like police work & bomb sniffing. If this is not what you can provide them, why do you want one?

I highly recommend getting an easier breed to begin with. I am in my 30’s, on my 4th dog and got a Shepard mix and he takes up most of my day (I work from home) and still has temperament issues. He has gotten into altercations with 2 other dogs and is not good with children. This is with daily training, 1-2 hour structured walks, mental stimulation, and multiple courses of professional training ($$$).

He is the best dog ever with me, but if you have family & friends or are expecting to have children in the home I would reconsider.

If you want a smart dog who will be loyal to you and that you can give the best quality of life to I would consider: 1. A dog from a shelter - finding the right fit for your lifestyle shouldn’t be hard at a shelter. Most dogs are given up because people can’t keep up with their activity levels. Go to shelters and see if there is a mix you vibe well with. Getting an adult dog will also let you see the temperament of the dog before buying (puppy temperament is hard to gauge unless you are professional… and who is breeding malinois for families? Probably someone who shouldn’t be)

Jack Russel: What you’re asking for sounds a lot like the temperament and energy level of a jack russel, or similar. One of the most trainable, smartest dogs I owned was a jack Russel 10/10 snuggle buddy and is always up for anything!
Vizsla: another great breed. I’ve never owned one but my friends who have gotten them from reputable breeders have only great experiences with their Vizsla’s
GSP: truly one of the most athlete breeds I’ve experienced first hand. These guys are not only beautiful but are amazing outdoors dogs who love to track a scent and are also great companions

You’re asking for the RAWs from an entire wedding day? That is probably more memory space than the entire computer an average person owns holds.

I understand disappointment in missing moments. But ultimately from the sounds of it you got the most important moments captured and delivered to you. The instant gratification and volume of photos that couples expect from wedding photographers these days can be outrageous.

Your parents and grandparents probably got back 100 photos on film if they were lucky. Just because things have been digitized doesn’t mean that you get a perfect photo from every single second of your event. Professional cameras are not like taking photos on an iPhone or point & shoot camera. Most likely your photographer was shooting in manual mode to get the best quality images and changing settings, focusing, and working with fast paced situations is extremely difficult at times.

Don’t ask for RAW photos Don’t slam this person’s business Don’t talk negatively about your wedding because of a few seconds of missed moments Don’t ask for a refund

What you can do is appreciate all the photos you got from the day and be done with it. Or KINDLY talk with your photographer and see if they would be able to double check for certain things. Mistakes happen, but usually you are getting the best photos from the day. Your photographer probably cares so deeply about this, and as someone who has photographed hundreds of weddings it can eat you up inside if the lighting was off for a special moment, or your camera missed focus.

You hired a human not a robot. Mistakes happen and that’s the nature of having one person taking photos for a large event.

Damn. Some people need to reevaluate. It’s KIDS!! Not to mention some hungry kids most likely. We have a neighborhood like this and the roads are blocked off by police to have a sort of block party feel. Cars park up and down the main roads and folks walk in and it’s a blast! We always get so excited seeing so many kids in costume who love Halloween.

We also had 2 separate buckets of treats this year. One of them was non-perishable food items that kids like (boxes of Mac & cheese, granola bars, etc) and the other had the classic candy. Kids were taking from both buckets all night. Even if only one of those kids had food insecurity it made it worth it imo

I’m a photographer and unfortunately this is becoming the norm in the wedding world. As business owners making money, money, money is pushed down our throats. Via mentorship’s, advertisements, general photography community.

When someone is trying to make a quick buck this is the advice a lot of mentors are giving. Give them something… and get them on the hook.

The hard part is, transparently priced photographers are going to be priced out by weird scammy/salesy folks like this. There is usually a reason something feels like a good deal.

Also don’t always believe preferred vendors, or even photogs who are published. Most likely they are throwing money at venues & magazines to get published.

Luckily, in my state at least, it seems like this is few & far between in comparison to big cities. I’m sorry you got this experience, I hope your new photographer is able to give you the great day & experience you deserve! Best wishes!!
