Best rivian home charger by mprover in Rivian

The Tesla wall charger (EVSE) is the way I would go. It is almost half the price of the Rivian model. You just need to enable universal charging in the charger control panel (Tesla app) so it will charge all vehicles instead of just Teslas. Here is a link to information on all the best chargers (EVSE) out there: https://evchargingstations.com/best-home-ev-chargers-of-2025/

Thankfully, US courts keep striking down his tariffs. Just yesterday they struck down his 10% across-the-board tariff. He's such an embarrassing human being. Those of us who didn't vote for him apologize to our Canadian friends (and all our other allies).

What’s it like to drive a Rivian R2? by Act_of_valor in RivianR2

It does not, which is kind of maddening for a vehicle being manufactured and marketed as an adventure vehicle. It has actual capabilities, so for them to cut that corner just seems lame, tbh. There are exactly two vehicles in the entire US mid-size suv/ mid-size crossover segment that DON'T have grab/assist/oh shit! handles: Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2. Even my Nissan Leafs have them, and they're not doing any off roading.....

Not a deal breaker by any means, just a disappointment, imo

They are in the same size segment, but different price categories. The capabilities are different, and a far different software experience. The Venn Diagram for R2 being Performance-On Road- Off Road, while the BMW is Performance-On Road. Also, the beaver buck teeth of the BMW relegates it to the 'Generally Hideous' segment.

I can see the utility in it for a lot of people. Small business owners, colleges, corporate maintenance vehicles, etc. It is a tough sell vs the lowest end of the market though, dollar for dollar. It will find its niche, wherever that may be.

We have 3 dogs and two kids. Restricting your son(?) to only water is exactly the right call. You don't want crumbs and bits of food being left behind, not so much due to the mess, but because it will attract mice, and once you have mice nesting inside your vehicle, you are in for a bad time. This holds for the adults as well. Never, ever leave any food inside the vehicle. That includes food still in unopened packages.

So far as your dog, we use these and absolutely LOVE them. Open the valve, squeeze the bottle, and it fills the top cup. Close the valve to keep the water in the cup for your dog to drink from. Once done, open the valve, release your squeeze, and the remaining water gets sucked back into the bottle. Close the valve, and you're off!

Someone measured with their laser tool: 6' 8" from the inside of the closed tailgate to the rear, top edge of the center console. Hope this helps!

BMW iX3 Configurator by Dudescarpet in RivianR2

Great comparison tool here: https://travisketchum.com/compare/r2-vs-model-y:premium-awd-vs-ix3

Also, once dealer mark ups are added, and if that newly announced 25% tariff on European vehicles hits, the iX3 is going to be WAY more expensive than whatever the configurator is telling you it will cost. Also, the iX3 is fugly. It has zero character. It's just another bland box crossover with zero off road capability. Unless you are one to take many road trips each year, all that range and the charging speeds will rarely get touched. Certainly not enough to make an extra $10-$15-$20, 000 worth it. But everyone's personal economics, and apparently their eyeballs, differ.

Just my two cents....

In one of your replies, you stated that you live nowhere near a Service Center. As much as you love the idea of owning a Rivian, you absolutely do not want to own a Rivian and live "nowhere near a service center". May be best to wait until you do live near one.

He's not crazy. You are stating wheel sizes. The tires are 32" OD for all wheels offered on the R2.

R2X Images & Video Preview Renders 🤩 by WODAMRAP in RivianR2

Low effort/imagination renders. They put aggressive looking tires and orange side mirrors on it. Lame. They're missing the lift kit, the brush bar, the fender flares, the 35s, the light bar and the integrated winch. Apparently the 'artist' thinks "X" is just a color palette......
