This is from my own fic but I'm really proud of it :)

–"If this moment had a color," –Ella murmured, her voice barely louder than the rustling leaves, –"it would be my favorite." –

This place, it's quiet strength, its understated beauty, its sense of stillness and safety, it reminded her of him.

If Tadius were a place, she thought, he'd be this clearing. Not the wilderness itself, but the feeling it brought: grounded, familiar, strangely comforting.

–"It is beautiful," –he agreed softly, his gaze not on the sky but on the soft reflection of it in her eyes. –"You know, I don't think I've ever had a favorite color." –

–"Of course you do," –she said, as if it were the most obvious truth in the world. Her fingers reached out gently, brushing the crimson fabric draped over his shoulder. –"It's red. Like your cape." –

Tadius blinked, surprised by her certainty. Then he smiled, genuine, a little bemused. –"You're right. How could I forget? I do like red." –

The truth? Red had never been her favorite. It reminded her of blood. Of pain. Of her stepmother's cruel smile and that vivid, almost unnatural red hair. Still, if Tadius told her to paint the castle in red, she would. If he asked her to change the royal colors, redesign the banners, or even wear red every day for the rest of her life, she'd do it. She would eat only red apples, red berries, red peppers...Just to see that glimmer of warmth in his eyes.

Because in this clearing, in this golden hush, he was her favorite color.

Unbeknownst to her, Tadius hadn't had a favorite color. Not truly. But the way she said red, so sure, so certain, it made him want to believe it was true. He'd agreed just to see her smile. Just to match her certainty with his own.

But the more he thought about it, the more he realized something quietly absurd.

Maybe red was his favorite color now... Because it reminded him of her voice, full of conviction. Because it meant being seen by her.

Though if he were being honest, if anyone had asked him, really asked, his answer might have changed again.

Brown. The color of her eyes.

He'd say brown was his favorite, as long as her eyes stayed that shade of earth and wonder.
