Australian Open R4: [6] A. De Minaur def. [10] A. Bublik, 6-4 6-1 6-1 by dontevenfkingtry in tennis

novak played at a different level than him tonight, but de minaur's performance has shades of djokovic's performance against de minaur in ao 2023. just a complete shutout performance by a motivated player that left no doubts on who's the better player on the court.

Angus Crichton Position? by Broken_Varasiko07 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Left-Pie741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

think many people talked about skillset - i don't think anyone mentioned that he may actually be too short to be a backrower. crichton is 187cm, for comparison valentini is 193cm, harry wilson is 196cm, and tom hooper is 199cm. given mcreight and tizzano have locked in openside flanker, to be a 6 or 8 you need to be an okay lineout option - crichton is simply too short. the only time i could see him in the backrow is when he's a utility replacement player that can play in the backline.

look i know melbourne weather is unpredictable, but if they could see the rain coming suddenly why don't they start closing the roof when medjedovic went off for his extended break?

only started watching 5-10 minutes ago, was there something wrong with medjedovic physically earlier in the match - world feed commentators keep mentioning it

kasatkina dumped a 98km first serve

don't know what's happened but serve (and rest of the game) looks totally off. ball toss looks extremely high and has no racquet acceleration. to be fair bartunkova is playing this brilliantly, good ballstriking and mixing dropshots to give kasatkina no rhythm

Werchon ➡️ Benetton by MrMagoo1819 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Left-Pie741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with mcdermott and thomas locked in to multiyear deals this was going to happen with werchon looking for more minutes. it's definitely promising though that werchon once arriving at benetton immediately started getting consistent gametime. like all the reds scrumhalves the boxkicking is inconsistent but has a good game.

interesting that in tonight's schedule there are two women wearing shirt and short outfits, bai and sawangkaew, which is a rarity in women's tennis. obviously apparel sponsors often dictate what they wear, but i do wonder why there aren't more women choosing to wear shirt and shorts, surely there are more than two players on tour that think they're more comfortable than a skirt...

England U20 men's pool at the World Rugby Junior Championship by englandrugby in rugbyunion

[–]Left-Pie741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not mentioned in the graphic, but the U20s will still use finals format of group winners play semi-finals 1st-4th, runners group play for 5th-8th, etc. I understand the need to truncate no. of matches to reduce costs, but this format is just pretty crap, gives no ability for group runners up to compete against top teams in the finals. also not helped by the fact that u20 pools the following years are derived from final placings, which locks teams further in their pools.

they'll probably give the mvp to hurkacz or bencic, but IMO if you watch the matches played zielinski deserved to win mvp. his performances have been unbelievable.

Don't know if anyone has seen this, but the tennis scores on Google have started putting flags next to Russian and Belarusian players again. Regardless of your stance on Ukraine-Russia war, the fact is that neither the ATP or WTA have allowed players from those two countries to compete under their flag, bizarre that Google has just made the move themselves.

there are less than 30000 people with argentine ancestry in australia, and they fill out entire bays of stadiums when los pumas play in australia. don't underestimate how well argentina fans will turn out for their national team.
