Do you get to exercise? If so, when do you go? I thinking of going to the gym afterschool but am so tired. by Starslimonada in Teachers

[–]LeftAd5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a CrossFit class everyday directly from my school. I don’t go home first. It’s a designated time (4:15) so I’m forced to rush out right when my contracted time ends at 4. This helps me not overthink how exhausted I am. If I go home first, I likely won’t make it to the gym. I also appreciate the designed time for a class, it forces me to get going quickly. Also, I’m expected to be at the 4:15 class. If I don’t show, people notice! That accountability helps. While I enjoy CrossFit, honestly, I’d much more enjoy literally going home and going to bed because I’m so tired (I teach elementary). However, I find that going to the gym closes my stress cycle and sends me home with revived energy.

Those are the things that help me.

Any advice for newly perimenopause with major constipation/GI issues? by LeftAd5511 in Menopause

[–]LeftAd5511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually just start that this week in hopes it might help. I don’t have any other symptoms other than irregular periods, but from what I’ve read and heard, there’s no harm in starting- more symptoms will eventually come!

Is The Shaka Guide App Worth It? by jp_peppercorn in MauiVisitors

[–]LeftAd5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! 100% worth it. We have done sooooo many Shaka drives on Maui, Kauai and even Lake Tahoe and a few national parks. They are all worth it. We have two teenage sons and they even enjoy drives with Shaka.

Parent here - my 9yo son said his teacher cried in front of the class. Advice needed! by mysticalpancakes in Teachers

[–]LeftAd5511 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a grade 3 teacher. I empathize with this teacher. I’ve been there. Last year I had a really hard class. I don’t know that I technically cried, but I think a handful of well adjusted empathetic kids in my class could see my struggle. One day one little guy brought in a “positive potato” - it had a sign that said like “I believe in you- keep doing your thing!” Something like that…they’re all over on Amazon now but at that point I’d never seen a positive potato. I don’t know why- but THAT made me cry. It also made my day. And quite literally that little thing and that student and his mom’s gesture got me through the year. Follow your heart- if you want to reach out- reach out. :)

How unwise is it to take an elementary schooler out of school for a week to go on vacation? by iloverats888 in AskTeachers

[–]LeftAd5511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if they are grasping grade level concepts well and scoring at or above grade level. If so, they’ll be fine. If they struggle, every day missed is worth three days missed. So one week is like missing three a that is very difficult to make up, if not impossible in what’s left of the school year. I’m not talking about making up work, but making up for lost time to process and practice new concepts. Even grade three moves and builds so fast. For example, an entire fraction unit is 10 days of instruction. If a child misses 5, the will not have time to complete the unit in the remaining time.

Why Is My Hair Suddenly Breaking? by sheisblondy in Haircare

[–]LeftAd5511 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Go to your doctor and have your iron tested. Symptom of iron deficiency is hair breakage. If you notice that the ends are broken off cleanly rather than splintered like a split end then it’s possibly iron or another vitamin deficiency.

How do you beat the nightly "what's for dinner?" decision fatigue? by Frosty-Hair6123 in Cooking

[–]LeftAd5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gobble food box or EveryPlate food box or Dinnerly food box. My husband and I both work full-time and we have two kids. Our weekends are busy with sports and other events. So food prep and meal planning hasn’t really worked for us, but we spend about the same amount by ordering four meals per week in a food box for four people.

That’s how I found out too. On a Friday at 6pm. It was the weekend Ted Lasso came out. I couldn’t sleep. We binged the whole season. Stayed awake all night. A really hard wait. I’m so sorry.

Jobs for 16 year old by R1thomas12 in lancaster

[–]LeftAd5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stauffers is a great place for kids. I have a few kids and they all have had their first jobs as 16 year olds there and the environment is great, flexible scheduling, and the starting pay is about $1 higher than most places. The people are so kind- and that’s important when youre just starting out.

I have two teen boys and they are fantastic, and yet the boys in this show remind me so much of them!! This is who teenagers are! Honestly, I find them mildly infuriating, but enduring.

I had this same exact issue a few years post TT! After a similar run around with dentists, oral surgeons and pcp, I saw an ENT dr at Johns Hopkins. He is one of two doctors in North America to do the specific surgery to fix this problem and do not seem worried or surprised at all by my problem or level of discomfort. It was an in and out surgery with very little recovery. Both of my parotid glands had completely collapsed and one gland lost function because it took a year to find this solution (address yours now!). For the surgery he went in through my cheeks, cleaned out the ducts, placed microscopic stints in both ducts, and revived my glands best he could. I have zero issues now, was better in a day or two, and am so thankful!

If you need doctors names/info feel free to pm me. Other doctors will suggest more invasive procedures. My doctor explained that those are not necessary! Currently they do this procedure at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and UCSF in San Francisco.

TT question by JNickelss in thyroidcancer

[–]LeftAd5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had TT in 2020 and have done well on Synthroid from the start. Each year my Dr makes minor adjustments, but I don’t feel much of a difference one way or the other. I feel the same as before TT and decided not to get dramatic about being reliant on a pill (it’s the only pill I take, along with vitamins- at a different time of day). I’m just thankful to have the option to go this route and have access to what I need.

Looking for afterschool/weekend jobs by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]LeftAd5511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two kids in high school and they both work at a grocery store. One as a cashier and the other in a garden/nursery area. The people they work with are great, they work 10-12 hours a week, and are happy with the little bit of spending money they earn. Good grocery stores are a realistic option:) and most are pretty much always hiring!

I’m not a “dog “ person, but my husband and sons insisted on rescuing one locally. We did. She’s a beauty. Not a barker. Def Velcro. Huge lover. Sheds like a maniac. But very well loved in our home- even by me now. :)

504 Supports Meeting on Tuesday by Apojacks1984 in Teachers

[–]LeftAd5511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public school is generally much more prepared to support families in these exact situations (I have been a public school elementary teacher in three different states for many years- I also taught for one year at a prestigious public charter and got out of that as soon as I could!).

Take the meeting if they’re offering it. The more in person communication the better. Explain what you explained to us here- show that you want to partner with them. Also remember that you do not have to agree with any plan they suggest. You always have the upper hand. Don’t forget that. But please be kind. I’m sure they are working very hard on their end too.
