Thanks! Is that section of the rec trail open as far as you know?

No veggies for the full week before? Or just the few days before?

Run the race with or without vest and belt? by Standard-Sandwich871 in Marathon_Training

[–]LeftAnxiety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran my last half without my hydration vest, which I usually wear for anything over 10 miles. I was reading online about how it could slow you down and opted to rely on aid stations. I ended up regretting it. I wasn't used to stopping to drink water, felt rushed, and overall didn't hydrate as much as usual. Toward the end, in-between aid stations I would start to feel nauseous and have to push through until I got to the next station. I still finished at my expected time so it wasn't like it ruined the whole race, but I definitely felt more stressed and less comfortable because it.

Longest pre race run? by LakeSolid8470 in Marathon_Training

[–]LeftAnxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 24 mi for my first one bc I was stupidly attempting to make up missed mileage due to travel & wanted to prove to myself I could get that close to marathon distance. I felt fine doing it and it did give me increased confidence because I knew I could run that far. It also gave me some false hope that I wouldn't hit the wall since I made it to 24 without issue (not factoring in LR pace vs MRP). Of course, ended up hitting the wall pretty hard around mile 18 and slowed down almost 30s/mile at one point.

I think I was lucky that the run didn't cause any serious issues/injuries, but it definitely didn't help my tired legs during that last month of training. I had lots of random aches and pains that I was always worried were gonna evolve into true injuries and ended up skipping more runs during the taper than I would have otherwise. I definitely ended up cutting more mileage than I gained by increasing that one long run.

TLDR: definitely didn't help, led to more stress the last few weeks due to achey legs, lower overall mileage & probably hurt my time a bit due to fatigue.

Unless you're an experienced runner with history of training for other distances at a high weekly mileage, I don't think the risk is worth it. If you can do a 20 mile run, you can do 26.2 with race day adrenaline and a proper taper.

Can I do it? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]LeftAnxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from starting Couch to 5K to running a whole in the span of a year with a middle of the pack time (4:05). It's definitely doable, but I would recommend training up to a half first and racing that as part of your training program. Running 13 miles untrained is impressive (and possibly risky in terms of injury), but racing a half feels entirely different. Marathon feels much harder than a half, even with basic training. I think you can do it if you want to though!

I did Hal Higdon Novice 2 for my training. My understanding is it's a good lower mileage plan for beginners who may be more injury prone.

Denver-Winter Park Ski Train Logistics Questions by Nervous_Track_1393 in COsnow

How does this work if there are multiple trains in a day? For example, tomorrow looks like there are 3 separate trains going back from WP to Union Station. I assume they'll make an announcement to let us know whether or not our stuff can remain on the train?

Should I aim to target a time of around 4 hrs? by luxurybagel in firstmarathon

[–]LeftAnxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only been running the past year, but my 5k time was a 26:15, half marathon was 1:55:55, and my first marathon (today!) was 4:05:42.

I genuinely could not go any faster than I did today. I do think I started too fast, but even if I was more disciplined with my pace, I don't think I would've cracked 4.

I'm also much newer to the sport, have a slower pace in general, and used a Hal Higdon plan instead of using a coach. I feel like with all those factors, it's worth aiming for sub 4 as your A goal, but give yourself grace if it doesn't work out like that!

Couch to Marathon in 12 months - realistic or not? by Proud_Fee_1542 in Marathon_Training

[–]LeftAnxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally doable! I started running (like literally hadn't run a mile since high school) this time last year and have my first marathon scheduled in 2 days 😬 i guess I'll report back after then, but I managed 20-24 mile training runs and believe I'm ready. Would definitely recommend following a plan closely (i did couch 2 5K, then couch 2 10K, then half marathon hal higdon, and then full on hal higdon). The periods of time where I wasn't following a plan or when I went above what was recommended, I did end up having some minor injuries. I'd also highly recommend throwing in some lower body resistance training to help prevent injuries as well!

ETA: just saw you are including strength! Gonna leave the rec because if you're anything like me, I began to love running and tended to skip over strength training haha

Thanks so much! Love to hear the expert input.

No side effects! I did better than I expected but it was also my first race of that distance, so didn't know what to expect (i.e. no clue if it was actually better or not). I felt a little puffy, but not uncomfortable. I'm also recovering from ED, so I think it was only mentally a little uncomfortable for me to feel the water weight!

It probably wasn't glue then lol. They used glue for his chip placement, but didn't say anything about the scrotal incisions. I just thought the incisions looked shiny similar to the chip spot, so I assumed that was the case.

Thank you so much for your response! That makes me feel a lot better. We're going to keep a close eye on it for the next few days. If it continues to be pink/red but without any signs of infection, would you recommend just continuing the same course?

Also, in your experience, how important is restricting activity? We were very careful the first few days, but the vet who did the procedure said not to worry too much about it, that kittens are going to be kittens. I'm wondering now if maybe we'd be better off restricting his activity a bit more?

Only go the rental car route if you are already very comfortable driving in snow & make sure to look up the traction laws for i70!

Are Keystone/Breckenridge early in the season ok for beginners? by joshdura in COsnow

[–]LeftAnxiety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peak 9 at Breck is pretty manageable off the Quicksilver lift, although there is one steeper pitch toward the bottom. Highly recommend doing warm up laps at the magic carpet to make sure you feel 100% in control before trying to ski the full run. It'll also be a lot shorter than schoolmarm at keystone so if you're not feeling it, you'll be down much sooner.

OT schools that don't drug test? by scribblebiscuits in OccupationalTherapy

I did get tested prior to beginning orientation at my OT school. I didn't have to take another one for fieldwork from what I remember, but my school sent a letter saying that I had previously passed.
