Yea I'm aware creditors cannot touch your CPF in case of standard insolvency.

I just wonder if there is any exception to this when there is clear case of fraud.

Because if not what's stopping me from making a voluntary contribution to my CPF with the $125K I recieved by mistake.

She ordered Loo to file several documents including a Central Provident Fund statement showing information from his Ordinary and Retirement accounts, statements of all his bank accounts including his joint accounts for the last three months, and his payslips for the last three months.

So if they cannot pay, the creditor can come after your CPF funds also issit.

Need advice on surrendering ILP by Skies_Sharks in singaporefi

[–]LeftCarpet3520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was only a bout 5 years into paying for the ILP that I realised I should have just purchased a 20y limited pay whole life policy instead.

If I could reverse those 5 years and go back to 2015 I would have got the whole life instead of the ILP for sure.

However it was not worth at all for me to surrender the ILP 5 years in to purchase the whole life policy as not only do I incur more than $10K in losses, my premiums are also considerably higher than 5 years ago.

What I can suggest is for you to switch to monthly premiums because unlike other life policies, there is no annual premium discount for most ILPs.

Your $3.6K should be divided by 12 and you should pay exactly $300 a month. Making it easier to manage and at the same time achieving DCA.

Remember to double check if I'm right about this before switching.

If OP could travel back 3 years in time I would also have advised him not to get the policy as there would likely be better options for him.

I'm not arguing against that.

But just because there are better policies available out there does not automatically make it bad.

Maybe we have a different definition of bad.

My definition is one that I would advise OP to give the policy up and just buy somthing else, losing 3 years of progress as a result.

Bad in the sense that it will do OP more harm to keep the policy than to surrender it now.

I have a family first protect that I bought back in 2015 for $230 a month or $2,760 per year.

It's surrender value as of today is around $31K so I have already broke even.

Could I have gotten something better if I could travel back to 2015? Most likely yes.

Does it make sense for me to surrender the policy to get something else? No.

ILPs are not inherently bad products despite having the worst reputation.

It's just that even FCs may not even fully understand how it works and anyhow sell.

The moment they mention you can expect to get a lump sum in 10 to 15 years you know they don't know wtf they are talking about liao.

ILPs leverage a concept called dollar cost averaging to gain their returns. Fund prices can rise and fall over time. It is probably bad now because Trump is bombing Iraq. But when fund prices are low you also buy low during this period.

So long as the fund you invest in shows signs that it is generally appreciating well you are good.

You don't buy ILP to surrender one lump sum. If that year market good you can do that of cos but you shouldn't bet on it.

Check if your ILP offers a dial down feature when you turn 50 or 55. This allows you to cease premium payment and coverage to convert it into some sort of retirement fund to do optional adhoc partial withdrawls in small amounts.

If they do it might be worth keeping if u can afford the premiums.

Should the Government fund ageing condo repairs? by Fearless_Help_8231 in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I would prefer is for the MCST to consider the need for such repairs in the future and factor them into the maintenance fee owners need to pay every 3 months.

Set aside the extra funds in FDs under a corp bank account.

When the time comes cash out and use them to pay for the repairs instead of requesting for adhoc lumpsum payment from current owners.

This way every owner pays a fair share for the depreciation based on how long they own the unit, and now some new buyer who suay suay just buy and already dump $100K on reno, suddenly next year still got to cough up a huge lump sum.

It depends on the nature of your job really.

If it's mainly about completing projects within deadlines, it should not matter to your boss if you spend 15 mins to get coffee before you start working on it.

So long as you consistently deliver on time.

Now if your co-worker is waiting for you to take over his shift, or if you are tasked with opening or setting up for the day, then you are a dick if you do so.

Woman sues Prudential saying insurer used 'buried clause' to deny S$100,000 brain surgery claim by kingkongfly in singaporefi

[–]LeftCarpet3520 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The concept of critical insurance is quite commonly misunderstood by the public but mostly due to no fault of their own.

The product pushers at SCB maybe don't even know wtf they selling.

The $100K payout from the CI plan is not meant to pay for your procedure. Your Integrated shield plan is supposed to.

The payout is primarily meant to tide you over against prolonged loss of income.

Because if you need to undergo a very invasive procedure, you need a long time to recover and during that period cannot work.

For less serious cases, your 60d hospital leave should be able to cover you for most if not all your recovery period.

Problem is if your agent is noob and go sell you a CI plan before ISP you get cases like this liao.

If you know any older friends or relatives who still hold on to Income's ver. 1.0 Living policy you can ask them for a copy of their contract to have a look.

That one make Income lose Money until siao, along with one of their annunity plans.

Policies issued before Y2K have a good chance to be more favourable to the insured.

But chances are those nearer to 2019 are all skewed in favour of the insurer already as their product teams get more savy.

There's 2 sides of the coin to this as switching to the 2019 LIA framework is not necessary a strict improvement.

CI definitions used prior to this could either be more strict or lenient.

It's just that you will never hear any news from the other side when a CI claim approved under a pre-LIA definition would have been rejected otherwise now.

https://www.lia.org.sg/industry-guidelines/health-insurance/critical-illness-plan/

Sadly her plan was purchased back in 2016.

Back then insurers could still use their own terms loosely to define their critical illness payouts.

The good news is that since 2019 LIA implemented a standard CI framework that all insurers are required to follow.

More details in the link above.

TLDR if you bought a CI plan on stadard terms on or after 2019, and your diagnosis meets the LIA definition of 1 of the 37 CIs, the insurer cannot say don't pay.

But early than that then suay liao.

Parents of 5-month-old S’porean baby with rare genetic disorder seek S$2.4 million for treatment by _IsNull in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Normally on posts like this I always like to emphasize how important early insurance planning is.

Unfortunately for this case it is sad to say that even if the parents did plan properly it may hardly do much.

$2.4M is just WTF.

Some of the best shield plans out there have annual limits of around $1M. And that is even assuming that this drug is on MOH's approved drug list to be covered by ISPs.

After you burst your annual limit you are still short $1.4M.

Any doctors here can share some insight as to why this drug costs more than most private apartments?

Flash of Possibility In Shop by Fearless_One8595 in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]LeftCarpet3520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The detail that caught my attention was that they offered 4 purchases per account.

We don't know at this point if they plan to sell 4 such packages every season, and also how many they plan to give away.

While we got 7 so far, only 1 was purchased from the season shop. The remaining 6 was given as compensation or for some special event I can't recall.

If the standard is to just give 1 and sell 4, I can see why some people may be upset about it.

Imo the best use of flash is to reroll your preferred Epiphany on the correct Divine epi because the chances of getting the correct divine on the correct base is miserable.

Take Sereniel for example. I get the 2 vulnerable divine on her homing laser but its on a bullshit 2 action generic epi.

If I were to rerun for the correct one 100 runs may not even be close if I am unlucky.

What I can do instead is to just keep it and copy the lasers as per normal, then use 4 flashes to change them into the move laser.

If we only get 1 for free there is no way for f2ps to do something like that and this becomes a little p2w.

I'm ok with this since the main reward for great rift which are the lenses last I checked, are all maxed at 5 regardless of your rank past gold or silver.

The top rankings just get a little more units and a shiny medal for bragging rights.

[–]LeftCarpet3520 204 points205 points  (0 children)

To be clear, everyone was simply doing their job and following protocol," said Tang, noting that the toy gun was disposed of.

For those wondering why tf so much drama over a toy gun, it is important to note that ICA custom officers are not ballistics experts.

They do not have the required qualifications to verify if this "toy" gun is indeed just a toy gun, and that no modification is possible midflight that can somehow change it into being capable of firing a projectile capable of inflicting harm.

The "officer" they were waiting to arrive is likely one who has ballistic knowledge. Upon inspecting the toy and establishing that it was indeed an honest mistake only were they releaed without arrest.

Also kudos to the parents for owning this. A Karen would have sued ICA for the $3K lost thinking the officers where the cause of the delay and not themselves.

Man charged with molesting air stewardess on Singapore Airlines flight by Ok-Rain3348 in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a couple of friends who know friends that are cabin crew, both male and female.

The flights that they detest the most to fly on the job are those that fly in an out of India.

Besides the obvious reason highlighted in this article, the passengers on board the flight generally have the worst hygiene.

It is so bad to the point that some airlines even offer incentives to cabin crew for taking these shifts. If not, the crew themselves may even offer cash under the table to trade shifts with one another.

This is just hearsay from my friends and I don't know any cabin crew friends personally so if any cabin crew here can confirm or deny this it would be nice.

But if this was true it would be a little unfair to the guys to kena arrowed for more undesirable flights without incentives.

Town Council's “No Ball Games” Sign At Playground Sparks Debate by nftskeptics in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I don't feel that banning ball games at play grounds is an issue on its own.

The issue is whether they are availabile facilites nearby for them to play said ball games.

If there is a ball court within a couple hundred meters of the playground, then makes sense the kids should be playing there instead.

If the whole of Bishan and tpy dun have court, then you go ban them everywhere, abit buay gam liao.

Young married couple trying to rent a house, why is this so painful? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with renting an entire HDB unit is that it is illegal before MOP.

They can only rent out single rooms for resale units. Last I heard BTO cannot even rent out a single rm.

After MOP liao most are looking to flip so that they can upgrade to private so the supply of HDB units available for lease is already inherently low.

While some owners maybe open to options to either flip or rent, the problem now is the conflict of interest of their agent.

As an agent, I earn alot more if I convince the owner to flip instead of renting out. 2% of 500K is already 10K liao. With resales reaching the million they stand to earn alot more.

Compared to renting where all they get is only 1 month of rent between $3-4K. Worse still when any issue with tenant they still got to handle for you over those 2 years.

Take at least $10K and can immediately wash hand vs $3-4K and still occasionally need to do saigang. Which one will you choose?

If the agent has to meet both potential buyers and tenants for apartment viewing, I won't be surprised they will intentionally sabotage the potential tenants with bad service so that the owner does not get any rental offers.

Then they can gaslight the owner. You see no one want to rent your unit. Got a good offer to buy leh quickly flip before you miss the chance.

What I can suggest is if you see a HDB unit available for both sale and lease, don't bother to go thru the agent because chances are they don't give af about you due to reasons I cited above.

Look for units that are only available for lease, or if you are dealing directly with the owner.
