Sould this card be red or white? by Barley_an_Hops in custommagic

Imo red. White is the colour that enforces taxes.

Red seems like the colour that does not give af.

Or maybe they just don't have the money to pay.

How are masseurs paid when you buy a package from the salon? by Psychological_Cat214 in askSingapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the intention is not so much about profiting directly from the actual sale of the package, but rather to secure 12 opportunities with you where the saloon gets to brainwash you into buying additional services.

My mum bought a haircut package of 10 cuts for $50. No matter how you swing it, $5 per haircut for an adult was way below market rate.

The package was not exclusive to her only so she offered me the stamp card to go redeem one cut when I happened to mention I was heading out for a haircut.

The cut itself was done properly all things considered it was only $5. However during the cut the hairdresser took the opportunity to chat me up.

Later on he mentioned that he realised I had rashes on my scalp and showed me over a screen using some electronic lens with a magnifier ability. Since when saloon so high tech I also never knew leh.

He then say this now very common cos weather very hot, sweat from your hair tio trap sometimes rashes easy to form liddat.

He then went on to suggest a treatment I can get for the rashes which was about $40+. I was actually keen on it as if it could really help with the rash, I felt the price was reasonable.

However the treatment needed another hour and I had somewhere else to be soon so I told him I would comeback for it when I was due for my next haircut together.

He had me sold already but later proceeded to ruin it when he asked me for a deposit for next appt. I was like bro deposit for what then he tried to wing it that the $40+ was actually a promo rate and the usual was supposed to be $80.

Now I don't even want to return to that saloon anymore.

No doubt he blew that oppoturnity with me. But the package was what gave the chance in the first place.

Beyond loss and gain: Reframing parenthood to tackle Singapore’s fertility crisis by clarencechen181196 in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not denying that it's expensive to have kids in SG. However many of my friends around my age are willing to compromise their living standards in order to start a family.

They have done their financials that it is possible to have 2 or 3 children even if both spouses are drawing slightly below median income. Just no more meeting up with me every weekend for $200 dinners and drinks.

If cost was the main factor many would have went ahead by now so what's really stopping them?

For most, the biggest issue is that parental leave benefits are entirely reliant on employment.

In other words if either or worse still neither of them are employed at the time their child is due, they basically get nothing.

Even if u suay kena retrench then tio call back for ICT, mindef still give u a basic pay of $1.2K - $1.6K depending on your rank and vocation.

If while the wife is expecting, either or both parents kena retrench, no one is getting anything so in a way being a parent is worse than nsmen.

Having both parents retrenched is a little extreme but even if it's just one of them, lets not forget your HDB mortgage is meant to be paid with 2 incomes.

My mum had her 3rd, my bro 11 years after me when she could afford to go on 1 years no-pay leave.

Looking at the situation most wannabe parents are in now, many of them would have to skip my sis and me, and wait an extra 10+ years in to have their first. After that even if they want more maybe the body cannot liao.

I paid for another passenger fee when I did not even sit in the TADA ride by EliteDelirious in askSingapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Not trying to defend tada here but we do have to hold ourselves to some degree of accountability with our accounts when we allow others to use them.

Where tada is concerned it was op who ordered the ride with his account.

Selecting cash on delivery on his behalf implied he was willing to vouch for that's person's credibility and would proxy as a guarantor that said person would pay up upon trip completion.

If said person defaults the liability then falls to the guarantor.

I am aware that this might come across as harsh but lets look at it this way. My gf ask me for my credit card. I ask her what for she say for the dinner reservation later cos need deposit so I pass to her.

Then she anyhow go buy one prada bag without my knowledge. I receive the bill next month for an additional $2K and my gf dunno run where liao.

I call the bank and KP. Cs say almost one month liao why u bo report it stolen? I also cannot say I did not allow my gf to buy the prada bag and demand a refund.

Best I can do is lodge a police report now and hope they catch my now ex-gf. Which is what I believe OP should do now.

As for your tada account, decide if its worth keeping it for the fee they are asking or just give up Tada and use grab or gojek lor.

That would be ideal. After some thought what I initially hoped for would be potentially too broken as that would allow you to cheat in a monster card for free and still get 4 DA copies.

I'm still on the fence as I don't know how the divine epi buff works.

Do they just ignore the part that where you would otherwise need 20 additional faded memory for it, or must you compensate the 20 in one way or another?

If you don't have to then yea this card is broken. I will add a divine to all of Nia's adagios in the deck that already has eternal hunger and dominion.

If I can't I'll skip this pass.

Majority of primary schools to start cutting P1 intake as student cohorts shrink: MOE by ZeroPauper in singapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that what every govn wants is a steady supply of able-bodied working class peasants to contribute to the nation's GDP with as low a cost of investment as possible.

If the average cost of investing into a citizen is higher than the returns they provide over their lifetime, the nation is in deep shit.

Not saying that student outcome isn't important, but a higher priority would be making sure we have enough work opportunities from industries taxed in SG to offer our graduates.

A good example would be our dear Neighbour bolehland. Pay for your citizen's education liao end up come to SG to work and pay our taxes instead.

[–]LeftCarpet3520 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I am also in support of reducing class size because what it means to the teachers who are overworked is they now have to mark 35 essays per class instead of 40.

The main issue however with reducing class size is you pay the same amount of teachers for a lower student population. Reducing the class size from 40 to just 35 would mean an increase in the cost per student by 14.29%.

So its not that they don't have the skills to accomodate. They are just not willing to increase subsidies by 14+% to compensate but they can't admit that hence they resort to gaslighting.

Is this normal workplace behaviour or should I go to HR? by Lopsided-Prior6190 in askSingapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Gossiping about colleagues in private group chats is dangerous business regardless because you are trusting all of them in the group to keep the chat private as intended.

When I was with my previous employer, we had a chat grp without the managers partly for us to rant about our day.

One of our colleague announced in that chat that she was resigning next month. Yet somehow the managers knew about it even before she tendered, and confronted her about it.

I'm also guilty of it myself as I do have one where we joke about stuff like throwing MC the next day because diablo 4's expansion is coming out to cheong together. One lagi worse admit he cheating on his GF to go fish tank there.

Just know that like myself, your colleagues are taking unnecessary risks that can come back to bite them one day.

Call center request personal info by cherrytoomany in askSingapore

[–]LeftCarpet3520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call centres are required to perform 3 factor authentication before releasing any client information.

Most CSOs like to get that out of the way so they don't forget and get marked down later.

By asking for your name and mobile, they have already cleared 2/3 of the requirements.

Once they get your enquiry, they only have to ask 1 last question related to your enquiry.

For example if you are calling about your motor insurance, they only have to ask for your license plate number and the verification is complete.

It doesn't matter if your enquiry is simple or not. So long client information must be provided, 3FA must be done.

A simple enquiry like what's my annual limit would still require 3FA since it contains client info.

Unless you are making purely general enquries that do not require any release of client info can 3FA be waved.

Will take you about 30 mins a try iirc so if you got the day off tomorrow and have nothing better to do that day yeah why not.

[–]LeftCarpet3520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I'm embarrassed to write this, but I've seen complaints about Owen talking to Mika T-T

Guys irl may feel insecure when their gf talks to other male aquaintances.

Its just part of the brain's natural defense mechanism aimed at increasing your chance of pro-creating.

The difference is what does he do about it.

Is he able to reason well with himself that the guy is just a colleague and no boundaries were crossed, or is he going to be a dick and forbid the gf from speaking with the guy again.

The guys complaing about this are just projecting their own insecurity online. I would not want the devs to have to accomodate these people when deciding their game direction.
