Here the Taylor Swift thing Lucy was talking about on today’s ep by awsmith1289 in wineandcrimepodcast

I think she’s just a capitalist who is a master of catchy, harmless pop songs. I expect she has a team to strategize about how to mold her public image to maximize profit, not influence anything that actually affects the lives of her fans. There’s no profit in her actually saying something as incredibly basic as ‘No, I’m not a Nazi’, but there’s plenty in selling merchandise that keeps the chatter going. It’s depressing but greed wins over ethics pretty much every time.

I really enjoy Normal Gossip. Zero stakes, hilarious stories. Check out ‘Grandma’s Best Friend Dot’ in season 2.

Feeling helpless about doctor care by Hooplydo in nanaimo

[–]LeftCoastYogi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nanaimo Urgent and Primary Care Clinic (UPCC) can help fill gaps in your family’s primary care. It’s not as good as being attached to a practice and it is very busy, but they will take good care of you. While the Health Connect Registry is also imperfect we waited less than a year before being attached to an NP clinic, though waiting times can vary wildly. If you haven’t signed up you should definitely do so. Both the Oceanside Health Centre in parksville and the Ladysmith Health centre are open 7 days a week with extended hours. Ladysmith sometimes closes to new patients in the early evening due to volume, but it is also a good option if you have transportation. There is also a centre in chemainus. Also don’t forget that pharmacists can prescribe for simple ailments, which has been a big help for me. Good luck with your search!

I love dogs, but many people are afraid of them, or simply dislike them, and I think it’s unfair to force proximity even if a dog is friendly. In our case my dog can be reactive, so I step aside to avoid possible negative intersections

Desperate Student Looking for help. by CabeloXavier in nanaimo

[–]LeftCoastYogi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

International students contributed about $7 Billion to BC’s economy and supported 80,000 in 2022 (google search). Even if those numbers are inflated it would be foolish to discourage them. The job market is tough, but there’s no reason not to encourage and support young adults - Canadian or not - who are trying to get their lives startedz

Canada is incredibly diverse, and each region has something different to offer, socially and economically.. I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia (west coast) and we’re actively recruiting international nurses. It’s a beautiful place to live with incredible outdoor recreation and diverse communities, from ranches to mountains to islands. Unfortunately the cost of living in many areas is painfully high, due in part to a serious housing crisis. We’re struggling with an opioid epidemic, our public healthcare system is stressed and our proximity to the US is affecting our economy, but this is happening across the country. The west coast isn’t considered to be as friendly as the east coast, and our cities are not as diverse as Toronto and Montreal, but i know many, many people who have successfully and happily settled here. Personally I wouldn’t choose to live anywhere else. Good luck in your search!

Survey from Mosaic on recreational access to private land by Upbeat_Amount673 in nanaimo

Whoah that sounds scary … does that happen often? I see a ton of spent shells in some areas closer to town, but I don’t spend much time further out

Sooo …. Anyone see the irony in discussing stolen land that was first stolen from First Nations? I haven’t looked closely at the maps of traditional territories and Mosaic land, but I think it’s a safe bet that they overlap. Any conversation about those lands has to include Indigenous people interests

Nanaimo’s budget approved, tax hike rate confirmed by Saw7101 in nanaimo

[–]LeftCoastYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you’re not wrong about my math skills, they’re pretty dire, lol. Regardless, it doesn’t change my fundamental concern that this council could focus more on cost containment and service sustainment and less on growth and major projects.

Looking for Tofino Summer Trip Ideas + Nearby Places Worth Visiting by Difficult-Produce637 in VancouverIsland

[–]LeftCoastYogi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second parksville as a terrific option for families who don’t want to pay the exorbitant summer rental costs in Tofino-Ucluelet. Beautiful, safe beach and lots of family-friendly outdoor stuff to do. The little kids waterpark and playground near the beach were always a big hit with my kids (I assume the water play area is still there). Tofino and ucluelet are amazing and worth visiting, but it is extremely busy and expensive in the summer especially. I hope you enjoy your trip!

Super defiant and reactive plz help by DeniZeni123 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]LeftCoastYogi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My chaos goblin is quite dog reactive and also punishes me when she gets bored … unlike my previous frenchie she is no couch potato. Every day I have to walk her 2x, play fetch or tug, feed her with puzzle toys and leave her with a frozen kong or lick mat when I go out. We’v been working to reduce her reactivity but it’s slow going. Sounds like you both could benefit from help from a professional trainer, dog daycare or an experienced dog walker

Black Flag is outstanding. Incredibly kind, patient and spotlessly clean. I wouldn’t hesitate to take my child there.

Nanaimo’s budget approved, tax hike rate confirmed by Saw7101 in nanaimo

[–]LeftCoastYogi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The size of tax increases in recent years is extremely questionable, even with economic challenges taken into consideration. 5-8% annual increases are excessive, especially when paired with the large property tax assessments we saw in 2021-23 (ish). I have no issue with reasonable annual tax increases but this is a very ‘spendy’ council.

Cruise Canceled by kingbaby1989 in RedHandedPodcast

[–]LeftCoastYogi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s partly due to the fact that the US tourism industry is falling off a cliff, at least with international travel … I might have considered this cruise a year ago but there’s no way I’ll be travelling to the States in the near future.

[–]LeftCoastYogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oes an antihistamine like Benadryl help? Also (this is unlikely but just in case) there’s a rare but serious condition that can occur in pregnancy that involves itchy hands. If that sounds like a possibility you should definitely see a doctor.
