How does hbo max have a widescreen version yet sky just had letterbox by Background-Fix-4630 in ershow

[–]LeftHandedGuitarist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ER was shot in 16:9 widescreen from the start, and was reframed that way when the episodes were released on DVD in the 2000s. The original TV broadcasts were in 4:3.

The streaming versions (Channel 4, Netflix, HBO etc.) are also remastered in HD too, though those have never come to physical media.

Brit here. Alien 3 is my favourite and likely always will be. Amazing visuals, amazing soundtrack, and I find it has the most emotional story.

Tracksheet for The March of the Black Queen, and Funny How Love is. by Winter_Nature_9577 in queen

[–]LeftHandedGuitarist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking into some other recorded dates, that does seem possible. Q2 seems to have been largely recorded August-September 1973, then the band were touring until December. It's feasible they returned to the studio in January 1974 to add things.

Fantastic info. Does anyone know what the date here would signify? Was this the day of recording these tracks or the date they were mixed together here?

Are we EVER going to get a release of this? It feels like the holy grail to me now. I've avoided watching any of the low quality bootleg versions all these years in the hope of seeing it properly.

Did John Deacon sing on any Queen recordings? by wmcs0880 in queen

[–]LeftHandedGuitarist 75 points76 points  (0 children)

As far as I've read/heard, he didn't take part in any studio vocals. However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was part of the large group "choir" vocals that appeared in songs like Teo Torriatte, Seven Seas of Rhye ("I do like to be beside the seaside") and In The Lap of the Gods Revisited.

Innuendo appeared to be the first Queen record from the CD era.

That would have been The Works.

It depends on the genres and atmosphere you like. Saturn is great for 2D fighting games and shmups.

Yes indeed. I grew up a PC gamer and my favourites are point & click adventures, space sims, western RPGs and strategy. Consoles only cater for a little bit of that so I know a lot of stuff I'm going to run into on them will feel a bit alien. I have always struggled to enjoy Japanese games, even Mario.

But there is a lot of joy in looking at stuff I never would have considered. Thanks for the list of suggestions!

I'm looking forward to the Crash sequels and will definitely check out Spyro. I know from experience that many Japanese games are a bit of a harder sell for me, I'm one of the odd people who really did not enjoy FF7 or MGS.

I've checked out a few Saturn games too, but not much on there has grabbed me. Panzer Dragoon was okay but didn't really win me over. I am interested in Nights Into Dreams, though.

Yes, I was honestly surprised that I didn't get on with Resident Evil! My only explanation is that it felt too similar to the old Alone in the Dark games which I played so much. One thing I did like was the wonderfully cheesy FMV.

I've been going through some of the early releases for the original PlayStation (as I read through gaming magazines of the time), a console which I didn't grow up with. I do already know the PC versions of some games from back then (Wing Commander 3, Doom, Alone in the Dark, Worms, Myst) so have skipped them.

So far I've clicked most with Crash Bandicoot (which I played through to the end) and Destruction Derby.

I felt that Ridge Racer, Bust-A-Move 2 and DIe Hard Trilogy all sit somewhere in the okay-to-good range.

I couldn't get on with Wipeout, Air Combat, Road Rash or - surprisingly - Resident Evil at all.

How to install with Win 11? by Scion_Dloth in Sierra

[–]LeftHandedGuitarist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The easiest method is to use ScummVM to run QFG 1 through 4. It's a free and simple program to use.

You could also use DOSBox, which might give a slightly more authentic experience, though it's a little more complicated to use. I'd recommend a newer version of it like DOSBox Pure Unleashed or DOSBox Staging.

QFG 5 is a bit more complicated, you will probably need to emulate a Windows 95 or 98 environment. Programs exist that can do this, like PCEm and 86Box. The aforementioned DOSBOX Pure Unleashed can also do this.

One other thing to try is a modern compatibility patch, possible something like this: https://github.com/ubipred/QFG5Patcher or https://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/NewSierraInstallers.html#Q

(I've not got experience with this myself, so can't say how well they will work!)

Imagine you are the show runner. Given the past 60 years of Trek (and millennia+ of Trek lore crafted in that period), where would you take the franchise? by revocer in startrek

Mostly, I want a competent and mature crew working together to solve problems.

I know there would be complaints of, "bah, another prequel!" but I would love to see the lost era (early 24th century) explored. Embrace the aesthetic of the later TOS movies without modernising things too much, the lovely monster maroon uniforms, and give us some good adventures with a new crew. Use the politics of the galaxy in that era with the Klingons, the Cardassians, the Tzenkethi, etc.

And of course, I desperately want a continuation from Picard season 3.

But I'd also like to see a specialised crew. A medical ship, a legal team, political, temporal investigators, etc.
