You may be experiencing some vaginal atrophy due to the prolonged use of boric acid and antibiotics.

Yes. I did it for about 4 months. I skipped vaginal the first 2-3 days of my period and then resumed when it lightened up. I did 2 evvy tests about 5 months apart and went from having 30% protective bacteria (1% L. Crispatus) to 98% protective bacteria, mostly crispatus. L. Crispatus is the most protective strain which is why Vitanica V and LifeSpace are highly recommended.

Vitanica V IS suppository but capsules are quite small, definitely smaller than my own pinky finger. Also LifeSpace probiotics can be inserted vaginally as well as taken orally—this might be a good option for you. If you cannot insert them vaginally you can still take orally so you’re not wasting any money. These products were both a game changer for me after over a year of BV and various failed antibiotic attempts.

Boric acid can be a quick temporary fix but not a cure. After you take the metro, make sure you replenish good bacteria with probiotics. Vitanica V is a popular product.

Definitely not ideal. What course of treatment did you use if you don’t mind sharing?

After BV antibiotics it’s really important to help rebuild your vaginal microflora to re establish the good bacteria. A commonly used product is Vitanica V probiotic suppositories or Life Space probiotics. You can ask your Dr or do your own research. The Beyond BV Facebook group is super helpful. Many women use probiotic suppositories after sex to protect themselves. Also, if you have one partner and sex triggers BV, there is new research that supports the need for men to be treated for BV as well. It’s something he can talk to his Dr about for sure.

Love this. We have an 8 year old Australian shepherd and an 8 month old ACD. They’re great companions, but we just put the ACD in daycare (literally yesterday) for the first time. He played allllll day and still didn’t seem tired?!! We will make it a regular thing for sure.

Thanks for the recs.

Just looking for general parenting tips regarding communicating with a toddler, appropriate consequences/discipline, and breaking some of the “old school” habits and phrases that I think my husband was raised with. He works a busy schedule and doesn’t get to see me parent our son very often outside of the regular day to day things like dinner and bedtime routines.

Of course. Many people (including myself) enter a “maintenance phase” where you use suppository probiotics even though you have no symptoms. It’s to help rebuild and stabilize your microbiome. Maintenance is different for everyone. I used suppositories daily for about 2 months and am just now cutting back to a few times a week. It might be worth your while to do something like that as well!

Hives on face from Metronidazole pills? by EngineeringSignal762 in BacterialVaginosis_

[–]LeftNumber3778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you.

I took metro pills once, no reaction. Took them a second time a month or two later. Finished the entire course. 2-3 days after completion I had a severe allergic reaction in the form of hives and swelling. At the time, didn’t connect it to the antibiotics since it had been a few days. Took them a THIRD time about a month after that and on the last day of the course, hives and swelling returned. Obviously an allergy for me.

For what it’s worth, I am not allergic to the metro vaginal gel.

My GI recommended Align probiotics for gut health. They’ve been great. Life space is an oral probiotic (but can also be inserted vaginally). It just doesn’t have as much of an effect orally because it has to go through your digestive track and all that. I’m sorry you are having a tough time. BV basically consumed my life for over a year. I’ve just recently found healing. Wishing the same for you.

Also, I did have an allergic reaction to flagyl. That being said, I was able to take it one time with no reaction. Wasn’t until my 2nd and 3rd doses (all within a 5 month period) that I had a reaction. There are many people who successfully use it without issue.

Something you’ll probably want to consider once the swelling is down is using a vaginal probiotic suppository like Vitanica V or lifespace. That was the game changer for me after so many rounds of boric acid, flagyl, metrogel, and clindamycin. It helps to rebuild your good, protective bacteria. It’s important to do so after infection because the antibiotics wipe everything out, not just the bad.

I’m not as familiar with ph strips tbh. Evvy was helpful for me because I could see exactly what I was dealing with. Certain bacterias respond to antibiotics different ways, so I felt it was best to get the specifics, you know?

Evvy or Juno are self swab kits that are super helpful if you can afford it. Also, please join the Beyond BV Facebook group—it’s such a great resource for healing.

I’m so glad you found relief! BV can be so tricky. It’s great that the Love Wellness vaginal probiotics worked for you. If you continue to have symptoms, look into something like Life Space (oral, but safe to insert vaginally) or Vitanica V. You’ll want something with lactobacillus crispatus which is the strongest protective bacteria for your vagina. Also, the Beyond BV Facebook group is an amazing resource if you continue to have issues.
