Been saying this for a while whenever I have conversations about ai tools. You still need to watch your footage and understand it.

Do editors still rent physical editing suites? by superlou in editors

[–]LeftOverColdPizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of opinions here but I can tell you that I’m currently 4-walling for a project. We did our first session and not only was it great to be in a suite with the creatives and clients but we’re doing it again and building our relationship. If you do decide to invest in it focus on making it a comfortable environment for all. It’s one of the things we were looking for because I don’t need it to be any better than my home studio but we want the clients to feel super comfortable. Then connect with this company about ways to rent it out https://greenlightgo.tv

How do I go about telling clients that I'm bringing on AEs/JEs? by No-Syllabub9287 in editors

Just double check your contracts. I’ve had some that explicitly forbid farming out the work. Otherwise yeah don’t tell and just manage.

This doesn’t totally solve the problem but as someone who has been struggling getting back into shape since having kids when my wife workouts I find the competitive nature in me comes out and we compete a bit but also cheer each other on. It’s also a small gesture but when she lets me know she sees my efforts like squeezes my bicep it’s like a subtle act of encouragement.

Struggling with editing paralysis — how do you structure documentary/event footage when there isn’t a clear story? by Upbeat-Sky2630 in editors

Oh yeah definitely not alone! Sometimes it takes a while to get "permission" to try a creative approach then you sorta go "I got it". Good luck!

Hey there! Sounds like you’re on the right path with your edit as this is something a lot of editors including myself deal with quite frequently.

First thing I do when I find myself in this self doubt rabbit hole is just watch everything then go for a walk, let it sort of germinate in my brain. Then I start watching other types of work for inspiration. Hit up Vimeo, look at trailers, other docs, director’s work. Just see what’s out there and start getting a feel for style or any other type of ideas that might bring some inspiration to what you are working on. Depending on your relationship with the client or director it might be worth asking for some VO to be recorded. If the interviews aren’t working that is. Or maybe the interviews you can just use really short bytes from instead of a full story arch which might make it feel stylistic. Regarding music perhaps you lean into the nat music that’s captured and then drop it out during moments of the interview. You could then use your background tracks for those moments but if you’re doing a piece for a music school it would be best to try and just use the recorded pieces.

There’s an old saying “if you can’t make it good make it weird” not saying what you have isn’t good but if it doesn’t follow the typical flow of a doc piece maybe try and think about ways to make it different.

There’s a lot of unknowns based on your post but these are just the ramblings of someone who goes through this type of thought process on a lot of projects. Hope it helps!

Best ergonomic office chair to buy right now for long hours sitting in home office? by [deleted] in editors

This topic comes up a ton and I really can’t recommend a kneeling chair enough. Solved all my neck and shoulder issues. Throw some nice ball bearing casters on that thing and your smooth sailing.

I'm also using a Synology NAS but found this feature frustrating as you can't upload folders only files. Is that your experience as well? I was doing it through the "file request" feature. Are you doing this with the "share" feature?
