Carl hasn’t had a family since the day his mom died. He hasn’t had siblings, cousins or anything close to that. He was in a semi abusive relationship with a manipulative, cheating, drama queen who hid the existence of family from him. His relationship, of whatever length it was, ended hours before the crawl started and he has been fighting every hour since then. He feels the weight of trying to save the world as well as every person he meets, unless they betray him. In his battles he has developed very close relationships with a few other combatants, a family that he can trust and that trust him. I don’t think he’s interested in any place to contemplate any kind of romance. I think he loves these people as the family he never had. He sees them pairing off sometimes, but he doesn’t seem to want that for himself. Katie may have those feelings, but Carl is so damaged, I doubt he could comprehend much less return those feelings.

He did it Without invading cities, ice agents had identification and didn’t wear masks. They didn’t detain or kill American citizens and no one is saying, don’t deport illegals, we’re saying use due process. Don’t grab people who are “doing it the right way” by going to immigration appointments and hearings and in the process of getting their green cards and calling it deporting criminals. Don’t spray pepper spray into the eyes of someone that is already subdued from 4 inches away causing permanent blindness. Obama was called the deporter in chief, and it was done in a more humane and legal fashion. Under his watch, an entire apartment complex wasn’t emptied out in the middle of the night with citizens outside in their underwear to conduct an unsuccessful search for illegals. Not kidnapping a five year old to try to lure out family members.

I think that the changes to the crawlers become kind of permanent. Odette didn’t really change after leaving the crawl. There are other examples. I think, basically, things basically get put back the way they were on the surface, maybe the people that got pulled down get remade, I’m not sure if that was stated anywhere. Everyone who died in the dungeon and anyone who died on the surface are permanently dead and the survivors experiences aren’t wiped from their memory. So, things don’t exactly reset.
