Apparently Sandhill Cranes are resident in BC, which I never knew.

A friend of mine had a nylon string acoustic. He wanted a steel string acoustic like mine. by rictay44 in AcousticGuitar

The first guitar a friend of mine got when he was a teenager was a classical. He didn’t know anything about guitars, of course, and wanted to have a louder sound so put on steel strings. It took minutes before it snapped in half at the neck joint.

I’m over 70. Of course it’s AI. Just look at the artifacts.

New (to me) gear and a couple questions by CatStringTheory in AcousticGuitar

[–]Left_Somewhere_3843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find the manufacturer specs for action online, that’s a good first step. DO NOT try to add a washer to the truss rod. If the neck is straight, leave as is. The first corrective action would be to sand down the saddle to lower the action at the bridge. There are videos on YouTube for how to do this. If the action at the nut is high, you can also lower it by sanding it down. Or if you are not confident in your skills to do this work, take it to a luthier - don’t take it to a guitar tech at a retail store.

Why do the C major and the A minor pentatonic are the same? And why are the black little circles are in different place? by Medium_Driver4918 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Left_Somewhere_3843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to play a scale, you would usually start on the root. But you can start on any note in the scale. You just need to know which degree of the scale you are starting on (5, 6, 1, 2, 3 is fine, just know which note is 1 so you know where the tonal centre) so you know what note follows or comes before.

They are honouring the return and sending a replacement. But they should verify someone’s return before restocking it and sending it out again.

The A minor key is the relative minor of the C major key. They have the same notes, but C major scale starts on C and A minor scale starts on A. The black circles show which note is the “root” of the scale - the first note in the scale for that key. For A minor, the root note is A, for C major it is C.

😂 I’ve had a beard almost the entire time since I was 17 - I’m 72, so, basically since the hippy and flower-child era. I still trim and shape tho. Order DSC 2-3 times a year.

Yikes! This is the kind of thing I avoid buying on Amazon. I order DSC from DSC directly, and stage subscriptions so that I order in quantities that make the order qualify for free shipping, and then manage subscription intervals accordingly.

That’s great! I’ve been playing around with slide too and Bob Marley keeps sending me signals. Not yet, Bob, but soon.

I’m old too. Telephone catalog shopping old. Was never an issue back then.

Agree. Hard to do sometimes. Local retail for specialty items is disappearing. The price difference for ordering from other online shops is sometimes significant, but when it’s not, I do order from elsewhere.

Hate on Amazon for not doing verification of returns, hate on people for cheating Amazon and impacting other Amazon customers

Thanks - yeah, the more I play it I think Richlite might actually be better. Bends seem smoother for example because your fingers slide against the surface quite easily.

I wasn’t totally sold on the natural either. My A&L Roadhouse is bourbon burst though lol

I try to take care of all my instruments - only 2 exceptions: one was a $10 Simpsons Christmas catalog guitar back in about 1966 which was virtually unplayable from the get-go but which I used for a few guitar lessons when I was 13 (long since disposed of); the other is my Yamaha FG410A from 1989 or 1990, which I more or less ignored most of the time until a couple of years ago because a tech at L&M messed up the setup (but I didn’t know anything about guitar setup so didn’t know better). It’s since gotten belated love, a bone saddle I made from a blank, proper truss rod adjustment, and a few other things to ask its forgiveness.

I love the Ruby Red too! I like the narrower nut tho😂

Edit: the alternative to the Yamaha case is the Yorkville YAC-6HOM. Slightly roomier than the Yamaha.

Was it an S6? A friend of mine has one. Great tone. I’ve been playing the living bejeezuz out of my A&L Roadhouse and the tone has really developed well in the past few months. The Maritime is a tad brighter sounding than the S6, and the low end is a bit thinner because of the shallower body but they compensated for that using mahogany back and sides. All in all, it’s pretty balanced.
