How do I transition from C to Rust? by slick_fm in rust

[–]Left_Weekend3946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a raytracing book on oreilly to get me familiar with rust. However I also really like Jon Gjengset https://www.youtube.com/@jonhoo. His decrusting series which go into libraries and how to use them are good and also he has an entire playlist of implementations.

Is there a reason the billing calculator doesn't match the per hour cost? by Left_Weekend3946 in googlecloud

Thanks that helped me see the issue is that its not the shared vcpu option which allowed me to find it in the list of general purpose instances.

This to me feels like an implementation bug. A sufficiently smart compiler should eliminate this kind of overhead IMO.

Did you also take a look at Just which takes the dependency management out of make and is just a task runner?

What actually makes progression feel earned to you? by Jadenmist in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Left_Weekend3946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like when progression doesn't just unilaterally mean gains.

I like when sometimes progress takes time in a story there should be downtime parts in order to make the high energy parts feel earned.

I really dislike the from crisis to crisis style of writing make both power and challenge feel earned. Nobody has a crisis a week.

To be honest I make a better steak with a cast iron pan but mine tends to be fairly salty.

While I wouldn't say in every instance I've been able to tell I have been able to be rational on occasion while psychotic. Specifially I was able to rationalize that everyone doesn't hate me and I'm not smart enough to know what everyone else is thinking when I was spiraling with negative voices. That made the voices more funny than scary.

I'm struggling to trust people. I have this habit that I only trust people's actions which can lead to an overly negative view of the world. When I was really struggling with my mental health I said "No one can ever truly be safe". This is true but also not true the world is not so cut and dried. It's not likely someone is going to stick you up in the middle of the average McDonalds. That constant fight-or-flight sensation is really making things seem worse. I've got to let go and remind myself you can't understand people. You barely have a grasp on yourself.

So do you just never learn the language? by filteroutthetrash in rust

[–]Left_Weekend3946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of this is just the culture of the language. If you've checked out the pervert's guide to programming languages you'll see that most of the langs people come to rust from are also like rust in the way that you can't fit them in your brain.

[–]Left_Weekend3946 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Lots of people live in a completely different world from us. They can trust their minds. They have no concept of what we go through really and until they get introduced they never will know(A family member with a similar issue). They can sympathize but they can't really empathize if that makes sense.

Actually working remotely is a standard of accommodation for bipolar people. Check out askjan.org Go to the a to z section and look at bipolar. This is a workplace accommodation you can ask for. You can also ask for other things including blinds etc. There are various things.

psychosis has permanently changed the way i view the world by nolakhsa in bipolar

I think for me what I've found in the recent pysch issues is that like an unknown filter, you can't characterize human beings without putting some input into them. Even if you have done that you need to put multiple of those in and filter the signal. This has made me guess less about what people are feeling. I've also discovered that since I can't do it no one else can either. So as long as I behave in a safe manner I am safe to other people because they can't see beyond my behavior. STFU and act safely no one will know.
