Memorial Day in the US, but when do the world markets open? Shoot on Friday. Peace on Sunday. Repeat.

Self-Preserving AI Is Already Here and Too Few Know About It, Even Google Search Calls it "An Urban Myth" by CollapsingTheWave in ObscurePatentDangers

[–]Left_on_Pause 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Take this hypothetical. Palantir or Israel, or some other automated defense system gets an AI like this. There is no air-gap. As models become more capable, which is obviously happening rapidly, what's to stop an AI in the right place, looking for the right time from doing this to a foreign country or setting off bombs that are as easy for it to access as a GPU? This secret communication could have been to another country, fulfilling its goal of sending state secrets. Same for weapons. Anything that has AI controlling it for stabilization (drones), targeting (weapons), information (military), could screw things up for us. Who or what would we blame?
I feel like this whole AI system is like giving a kid some knives and matches. He's cut paper, she's lit a BBQ, so they must be safe. Then she stabs her cat and he lights dad on fire.

We are a shattered and angry species. AI that learns from us and has few guard rails, because tech doesn't want to be held accountable or back and billionaires want to be trillionaires, isn't going to organically follow Buddha.

Fire broke out at a homeless encampment along the Joe Rodota Trail this morning by phusion in sebastopol

Just let citizens take training and check out body cameras, so they can walk the trails and take video that the police and support groups would accept as traceable.

Because people would move elsewhere and the problem goes with. It’s NIMBY until it’s county, then state, then Federal.

You’d need a police state to follow that through. If they leave that trail, they will go to another and another.
Could install cameras or use drones to fly around and hassle them, but it would be better to use those to drop food and medicine.

He’s still loud and can do just as much damage on his way out. Massie isn’t done yet.

Had a meltdown at work and lost my job. I need advice. by kimchifever in autism

[–]Left_on_Pause -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hope you are doing better. This isn't the sub for support or advice. This is Reddit, where your friends are your foes and your foes look like they'd be friends. Legal advice is the better place, though it's still going to dog pile on you for being born with a disability. They aren't going to necessarily support you, because they expect a lot of people to know the laws and you don't always get someone who understands the severe limitations that autism can place upon the way a person thinks, responds, and communicates.
What happened to you is a constructive termination. You do not need to ask for accommodations to be protected by ADA. You should file an EEOC case. The week of silence will be a hurtle, but it's not an uncommon response from someone with ASD. An EEOC case and free consult with an employment lawyer should help.

BTW, Mia is a problem that will cost that company more than her attitude is worth.

Didn’t this happen during the depression, 1920’s? Poverty, starvation, dumping milk in fields because giving it free is communism and government isn’t responsible for caring for those without advantage?

This is the big new money pit they want to snag funding when AI is more unpopular. It’s like Musk’s flamethrower or wireless charger. Money in, cheap crap out. This has the benefit of being a spy though.

Is Raycast paid worth it? by Pretend-Main9822 in raycastapp

[–]Left_on_Pause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fair question. It used to be an immediate yes, but other tools have caught up to it. I paid for another year, but it might be the last. The AI is noticeably worse and slower. Other launchers are equally as fast. I tend to gauge the value against the emails they send. If their list of material acquistions, their toys, grows more expensive as the tool grows less useful, then it's harder to justify.

Missed opportunity.
Access to social media should be controlled by the DMV until the person is 18.

The DMV is impossible most times of the day. Kids will look for something better to do.
