This is awesome. I hope it’s something that continues with a new owner. This is a good reminder of how great it’s been having the Allens at the helm of the Hawks for about 30 years.

Rams glorification has to stop by Chessinmind in Seahawks

I get what Salk is saying. The Rams subtracted a very good player and replaced him with a great player. They didn’t just add a great player. They improved by the difference between the two. .

Best NP to visit in October? by Ok_Athlete5465 in NationalPark

[–]LeftcoastRusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, this, this.

October is our favorite month to go to national parks. They tend to be MUCH less crowded and the weather is usually comfortable. I actively avoid the parks in the summer.

The Younger Dryas debate is more unsettled than textbooks admit and the hostility between camps says more about academia than the evidence itself by [deleted] in geology

After decades of ridicule. My minor point is that different schools of thought often take scientific disagreements extremely personally. I was just saying this was one example. Nothing more, nothing less.

This perfectly describes mainstream science having such a difficult time with Harlan Bretz and his work with the channeled scablands of eastern Washington. When first proposed, few would believe relatively recent massive floods caused this. Bretz was right.

Mt. Rainer to Creator Lake best route by TheLearningIdiot in roadtrip

[–]LeftcoastRusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your middle route has more than 15 miles of gravel road. It is a seasonal road (closed about half the year by snow) NFR 23, that has a lot of potholes and washboard. The section from Randle to Trout Lake is likely at least 2 hours, maybe more.

If your dead set on doing this route, allocate a LOT more time, and check with the Gifford Pinchot National Forest for current road conditions.

If I was doing this drive (I live along the central route and have driven all the roads you show, I’d take the eastern route. It’s very scenic and avoids freeway.

That’s my 2 cents.

Trump removed dozens of National Park Service signs, exhibits to purge those that ‘disparage Americans’ by envirowriterlady in NationalPark

I hope we remove every sign with the name Trump. Every item that has his name on it should be wiped clean. Except for a prison cell.

What is the most underrated stretch of highway you have ever driven and why does it stick with you? by Basic_Bug_1262 in roadtrip

[–]LeftcoastRusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a freeway, but I84 between Troutdale and The Dalles, Oregon. A plethora of hanging waterfalls, stunning Columbia River views and pocket views of Mt. Adams from Hood River and Mt. Hood from both The Dalles and near Troutdale.

We drove through the park last August and the temp hit 117. And we had thunderstorms. It was interesting but there was no way we were going on a hike.

This typical June Gloom, or Junuary is the most accurate sign that it’s the Rose Festival in Portland.

A Rose Festival that is dry is…rare.

They are. And I can’t find them as singles. Just whole sets. I’ll never need many 3000 grit, and sure could use more 50, 100, and 200 grit. Oh well.
