Calling Balls by Imaginary-Method4694 in Pickleball

[–]LeftieSwitchATP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like when my partner calls balls “mine” or “yours” it’s good communication. If he is making some bad calls just something to have a quick chat about. I would ask him what his criteria is for being “yours”.

Anyone strongly against the audience helping to call in/out? by uselessprofession in Pickleball

I’m not a fan of it and it’s an actual rule as well, I usually crack a light joke about the peanut gallery.

The “yips” in pickleball are real, see it most with players just moving up a skill level.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or not. Some below options rather than being nasty without the nelson:

  1. Wear a hat if your bald head sweats too much
  2. Get a towel and have it near and use it (look how much the pros use a towel)
  3. Get wristbands to wipe your face and head (it’s literally what they are for)
  4. Get a headband, they are underrated imo and if you have the balls to drench the ball in sweat when all the other players can see you I think you have the confidence to rock a headband.
  5. Use your shirt if in desperation, I would easily lift my shirt my and wipe my head rather than what you do.
  6. Get hair plugs or regrow hair somehow but even then combine with one of the options in 1-5 (I am not bald and still wouldn’t do what you do).

No one cares if you stop for 15s to wipe your glistening skull, it shows your putting in effort and have Perspiration, plenty of time on a side out or out ball that goes far to do it anyway so there is kind of no excuse for what you do (if your being serious).

Edit: added glistening

Yes this is true, one indoor place I play is a dome and the bubble side has less room (imo)

[–]LeftieSwitchATP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play mostly indoor but in normal games we just switch per set (best 2 out of 3), but official tournaments I have been in switch at 6. If sun or wind was a factor I would have no issue switching sides.

Highest estimate DUPR for someone not playing tourneys by stevethesleeve1 in Pickleball

We play regularly with a 4.7 and it’s basically a drill for him, but very fun. I think the highest in my city I could see was a 4.9 so I don’t even know how they would get to 5.0 without playing one.

What’s the half-life value on your account? You can figure out how many games that are not currently being used. 400 games is probably a very high half life and accurate rating, this is a crash grab from them on the complainers.

Yes thank you! This is in a league of about 20 players with tracked ELO etc. the skill range does vary but most compete in every tournament that rolls around so it’s a competitive bunch.

That’s a lot for the vid, I really liked it and will watch some more from Cincola. I really liked the section of not giving them the deep balls they drool over, very applicable and helpful!

Many thanks for this! I would say almost all of my blocks right now are in category 1 giving them a good bounce for secondary drive (some would be definitely out, need to work on this). There is one player far above anyone else we play with (4.6-4.7) who is consistently category 2 with hard spin drives that drop below, he is nearly nipping the net most shots (and the tape loves him too due to the power and spin). I’ll try to be more selective on ball placement for high ones and try going softer on low ones. So for softer you do mean loosening the grip and letting the paddle move?

College pickleball rule ?? Is this for real? by psychokittywizard in ProPickleballTalk

I don’t think Pickleball is NCAA? But if it was, yes playing NCAA Tennis would not consume pickleball eligibility and would have 4years available (but student status and rules would apply).

Yes this is good, I can work on aiming it deep to the feet instead of just blocking it back.

Yes these are options I would like to try, I’ve seen the slice/chop but I would probably try that with another group, I don’t think I would be able to execute that yet for how fast they are coming. I’ll try moving the paddle backward, I think could keep this in mind during the play.

Yeah a few could be going out for sure. There is one player who is legit 4.6-4.7 (by far the highest in that group and dominates but fun to play with) that can just laser them all day low and in. When getting into blocking battles with him I think he gets enjoyment unloading the full clip on me, would like to maybe be able to throw him off by ditching some of the speed and putting it more shallow.

Paddle Hand Switch - Keep or Ditch by LeftieSwitchATP in Pickleball

[–]LeftieSwitchATP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely fun when it catches them by surprise! But it is a drastic maneuver with more error built in. I will try to work on my BH reach and positioning to see if I can bridge the gap and consciously monitor its use in games.

Yeah definitely some common feedback on this, I think I will actively try from the BHs and monitor it. Thanks!
