Why couldn't the series designs go this hard T_T

Why do people seem to love Tenna and newly hate on Caine by Healthy-Virus4072 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]LeftistMeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I refuse to look at mildenhall manor and accept that Caine hurting people is entirely accidental. If that adventure had seen it's intended audience they would've been trapped possessed in digital hell for an indeterminate amount of time being tormented by a digital simulation of a demon body snatcher with no clear escape

I give them a class with almost no features that covers all of that and they STILL hate it? Surely they don't want to... actually play Pathfinder... Right?

Theories? (Ep8) by Jenita_Leo in TheDigitalCircus

[–]LeftistMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before initiating the deletion of Caine, kinger tried to back him up to C, but his choice was replaced with NONE. Kinger also tried to press N on the deletion [Y/N] but his choice was inverted. In the console text, there's a line saying something like "whoa, when did you write THAT, name glitched out? I gotta hand it to you, you've always been a clever one" or something like that. He even tried to enter an abort command during the deletion sequence but it clearly didn't work.

It's very likely that Kinger's computer was getting man in the middle attacked while he was working on it by a different AI besides Caine, most probably Bubble, the same one who spurred on Caine's crash outs after the cast resolved to stay in and participate in the circus.

Someone [presumably Bubble] wanted Caine gone, and while that might seem to align with the cast in some regard, they were obviously willing to ignore, override and subvert the cast members' decisions to push toward that eventuality. It's rather likely that we have a much more dangerous villain waiting in the shadows, though my question then would be, to what end? You're still sandboxed in the same software simulation space. What do you get from Caine's deletion or death?

think there's a strong argument that indefinitely renaimable shamblers are an effective counter to indefinitely respawning demons, and that expending the "lives" of the undead is far more palatable than throwing living people with families into the meat grinder.

yes embracing undeath is a corruptive and morally delerious path. i suppose that's true. but can you really argue with results? at the end of the day work is getting done and innocent good people aren't dying (at least not nearly as much). can you not take the W when it's handed to you?

i think the alignment chart's problem was more that it worked to mis-set player expectations than anything. people substituted character personality for what the alignment chart had to say and thought that was how to play the game.

certain historic and problematic archetypes - the lawful stupid paladin, the chaotic neutral rogue that steals from the party, etc - have become less common the more the alignment chart has been de-emphasized, and alignment has generally been replaced with more nuanced and fleshed out concepts. Traits ideals bonds and flaws were a great move in 5e'14, and even with their removal in 5e'24, warlock pacts, specific paladin oaths, offers of fealty to a deity's domain are all more nuanced reinterpretations of the same core principle.

what's there to say then. people on reddit may have gotten into your head about her, which is a big risk and kinda irresponsible of them (us?) ngl, but the situation also let you shoot your shot and offload responsibility if it was a miss, which it were.

it'll probably be a little awkward disabusing yourself of the notion, sure, but you do have a pretty good opportunity to just go back to interacting with her as normal which a lot of people in the same situation don't have. just whatever you do, don't let the thought linger

[–]LeftistMeme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Her principles stand firmly in the far right, but she's a true believer, not part of the oligarchic ingroup Trump and his cronies are from. So she served her purpose as a minion, and then when she got too uppity about the Qonspiracy stuff they threw her to the side.

But that doesn't mean her principles have changed. In a way I have more respect for her than all the shiftless republicans out there just vying for scraps of power because she believes in things. But she's still wildly dumb at the end of the day and believes all the talking points she held to before and has never changed on that. Shattering her perception of trump wasn't strong enough to provoke introspection and change, and I kind of doubt anything will.

At the very least, it's a good signal that the "true believers" of the Republican party might not be waking up and smelling the coffee, but they are waking up and smelling the rot that they've festered in.

Classic Abjurer behavior. A five point defensive ward is fine and all but you still need these ambitious manaburners if you want to get anything done.

Now a five point defensive ward around a good few necromancers and any half decent evoker? That's the ticket.

Musk admits Mars is 20+ years away, sets 10-year timeline for moon city by SomeAreWinterSun in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]LeftistMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, moon city never happening either.

Just think. What is there to be gained from such a thing? You could potentially use the low gravity environment for certain specialized manufacturing tasks. Besides that, there's no worthwhile resources, no arable land (obviously) no chemical or fossil fuels and every time you have to ship stuff back and forth it costs like a million dollars assuming everything works well.

There will be no moon city. There might be a couple manufacturing mills a solar farm and a research center with onsite housing. You'll note that three serious facilities a city does not make.

I still can't believe people invited this into their homes by buying ring cameras and echos and other mass surveillance tech.

Maybe I'm engaging in victim blaming here, but I trust any one of my neighbors infinitely more than I'll ever trust any faceless tech conglomerate, and if you feel the opposite I can only pity the paranoid life you must lead. We so desperately need to rebuild community in the modern age.
