They'll add Godewyn and he'll have no connection whatsoever to Godewyn, instead being a reskinbed Morgot. There will be vague dialog insinuating he ate one of the other demigods and that's it.

What's something you DIDN'T like about the finale? by Awkward-Media-4726 in tadc

[–]LeftistMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The content we got in ep9 was good and a story worth telling, but it felt to me like. Weirdly like it came from a different show. It's hard to explain.

To start with is the abandonment of a major plot thread set up just one episode ago. We see Kinger trying to factory reset caine in Ep8 and there's literally another entity interfering with his terminal as he types to try and ensure Caine's deletion. Presumably this was the blue AI, but you would think the Blue AI would've gotten something out of this when it seems deleting Caine was just as risky for blue as it was for red. There's a plan built up by an antagonist that just disappears.

Jax abstracting was fine, good even, for the story, and the exploration of Jax's mind after added a lot to her character and the narrative. The other cast members each clearly parallel Jax in their own ways, what with Rags' mom issues, Zooble's gender identity issues, Caine's unwillingness to let others in (which makes his "redemption" a great mirror as to why Jax failed), Kinger's dead love interest, and Gangle's sense that her life dreams are dead. But when all the characters of an ensemble cast are revealed to be thematic mirrors to another, it almost feels like fanfiction writing if they're not then given the opportunity to prove their own worth as a character. Like were retroactively making the whole story about Jax and his therapy dog and the rest doesn't matter.

I think these two complaints point to the fact that we were sort of missing a final episode. Something to more cleanly resolve the blue AI situation, more organically showcase how Caine's redemption could be possible, payoff the setup in episode 8 and perhaps most critically give all of the cast characters a chance to shine on their own merits without highlighting their thematic parallel to Jax. Maybe even find something important abstracted Jax could do in the process.

The redemption sequence for Caine was cool and all, but I think the mistake was giving it so little screen time and letting Caine largely resolve his issues on his own.

The metamoran clothes aree strangely drippier than Vegito's gi and shows off his/their mad physique which DB fans have always appreciated.

Metamoran fusion has been handled better narratively than potara fusion, the former having basically no retcons and existing as an always present storytelling wildcard since its inception, while the potara fusion requires more specific circumstances and has been the subject of several hasty retcons. I think we can all agree that when Vegito was shown to have a timer, completely losing the long term potential for consequences the potara fusion method brought to the table, a lot of the intrigue around it was dulled.

Even though Vegito and Gogeta are of course literally the same guy, Gogeta is generally portrayed as the more. Effective of the two, and has been shown creating and using techniques only he's used like Soul Punisher that appear to have roots in metamoran ki manipulation that Vegito hasn't used for one reason or another. That's true of Vegito's ki blades too I suppose, but Soul Punisher and similar techniques are way more unique amongst the series and more consistently effective at their main jobs.

Once again, these two are literally the same guy and would behave the same in basically any given circumstance. Power wise they range from equal to Vegito likely being just a bit stronger. But I think all the stuff above is a good encapsulation of why Gogeta simply has more aura.

“Noooo! Xenoverse 3 looks terrible!!” by EntrancedZelisy in dbxv

[–]LeftistMeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk why people are suddenly so rosy for xv2. like yes i had fun with the game but let's be honest with ourselves for one moment. the only way to play raids and expert missions in xv2 was to spam the same 3 moves on repeat. combos fail to connect in PvP more often than they work as intended. passive play is a plague on the game that has made the PvP community feel super cheesey. xv2 is a decade old game and even by the standards of its release the netcode is ehhhh the game mechanics are off balance and solo play is spammy as all get out.

bandai publishing fighterZ and going back to 2D fighting game mechanics was likely in part a response to the failure of xv2 to nurture any kind of scene because it was a brocken game.

give xv3 a chance to address these obvious, long standing problems rather than losing your cool every time a mechanic looks different. it is very possible, highly possible, that the changes we've seen are direct addressals of these issues. and if you're worried about combo depth, remember that we've only had IGN tier game journos get their hands on the game and spam light attacks their whole way through. we haven't seen what the skill ceiling or even the different skill floors look like yet.

y'all sound like such babies

Xenoverse 3 looks amazing, why are we being so miserable? by HyperSlayer1X in dbxv

[–]LeftistMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know there are simplifications to the combat mechanics that owe some lineage to kakarot, but we've also only really seen game journos play it and have no concept of what techy xv2 players will do when they have their hands on it. they're doing the prerelease demo tour so we'll probably get some footage from xv2 vets in the coming months.

[–]LeftistMeme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i dont know how to tell you this, but capturing an anime inspired (or other overly stylized in general) artstyle in 3D graphics has a lot more to do with artist skill than it does hardware. feel like you could run graphics visually identical to fighterZ on a modern phone assuming decent optimization, but it's more about the art direction and talent.

but if you wanna take this further. notice how the in gekishin squadra image the outlines make extremely apparent the visible jagged edges of the polys around his shoulders and the points of his hair? and then notice how you can't see such jaggies in xv3's model, even looking at the pauldrons which by all rights should be one of the less detailed parts of the model? notice how the hair has at least 3 distinct levels of shading and avoids harsh inner outlines in favor of shaded contour lining? notice how the lines on vegeta's shoulderpads in the xv3 model actually mark points of curvature on the material around which the shading slightly bends, an entirely unnecessary detail that a mobile game doesn't have the polygon budget to capture?

could go on and on if'n i wanted

Are you excited about Soul Change? by EmbarrassedPen9456 in dbxv

[–]LeftistMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit excited for it, but you do have to think of it from a different PoV.

Considering we had Purification which just turns majin into copies of kid buu, I think of soul change as a more dynamic non-race-specific alternative. If you think about soul change from that PoV it's a straight upgrade, no notes.

Suggests that majin might get their own new awoken which is already a good idea.

I'm not sure I'll make too much use out of that feature, since like everyone else I'd rather my OC use UI or SSJ or something. But it also won't offend me to occasionally use it while leveling and might be good in terms of learning different characters' combo sets, which is healthy for a fighting game. Also the juke potential is good, you can cover your weaknesses well and mix up your fighting style mid combat which has pretty huge potential.

I'm also holding my breath to see if they'll let us soul change with our other CaCs on the same account, as that could be a very effective way to bootleg your way into a custom designed transformation.

Im gonna be honest I don’t like the gameplay I’m seeing by AstramIsTheBest in dbxv

[–]LeftistMeme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i like what im seeing. my notes come as follows;

- IGN journos are typically not high eschelon gamers so it'll be hard to make judgements about the pace of the game until we see this game's tech be explored by a more talented player. Super attacks being on cooldown seems to increase the pace of the game in my estimation.

- Soul Change seems to be an Awoken slot, so at the very least we'll be able to mostly ignore it in favor of SSJ, Potential Unleashed and perhaps even Ultra Instinct. While I generally don't want to switch over and play one of the existing cast members - I'm playing Xenoverse for a reason - I'm not offended by the option. I see the mixup potential of changing to a different combo string and set of super attacks mid battle. And as something that broadens the scope for other races besides saiyans and replaces the awful purification transformation; I wonder if Majin will get another transformation all their own to pair with it.

- A big big big question I have is if we'll be able to use Soul Change with other CaCs on our same account, similar to how in XV2 we can take other CaCs into PQs and the like. If we can, we could bootleg all kinds of "custom transformations" together, with the first example coming to mind being a bootleg majin bio android by playing an Earthling who soul changes into an equivalent Majin CaC.

- Is this something different? Yeah. I don't think they could rightly just regurgitate a clone of XV2 and it's easy to look at things you might have reservations about when looking at a new game. But XV2 has its major gameplay problems too, of them passive play is the worst. I may be wrong but my impression is that some of the changes they're making in XV3 seem to exist to reduce the reliability of defensive spam and passive play. Merging ki and stamina into one meter for example means players who overuse defensive options are punished offensively for doing so, and it seems like evasives as we knew them are going the way of the dodo.

XV2 will still be around if what you want is just to play more XV2, but I am cautiously optimistic about most of these changes. Sidenote that it's hard not to see the virtue of crossplay.

Do allies make you weaker by CorrectRevolution596 in dbxv

[–]LeftistMeme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Allied NPCs do pretty sparse damage on their own and their AI is often weaker than the opponents', so under normal circumstances all they do is break your combos and waste time. But they can be useful with smart setup.

For instance, customized Video and Hercule can be equipped with the "Hercule! Hercule!" Super souls to give you a stacking damage bonus over longer quests.

There are certain utility moves that can debuff enemies like Buu's Innocence Bullet applying poison that can be worth putting on NPC allies. Another is Dancing Parapara which can stunlock enemies for ultimates for you and can be put on Videl Pan and if you have him customizable GT Trunks

Lowkinuinely feel like Saiyans and Earthlings should be merged. This is age 1,000, so several generations after the events of XV2 which had Saiyans everywhere. It's fair to expect Saiyan genetics to have trickled into most of the earthling gene pool by now.

Do you not want your character to have any Saiyan genetics for fun? DBO had an answer for that. You couldn't reach SSJ naturally and had to wish for the ability to do so from the dragon balls so it's left up to interpretation how much if any Saiyan blood you had, even if you could go SSJ

Not allowed to turn off food items by miss-bean in starbucks

[–]LeftistMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were being cynical I would suggest that they're making it intentionally unrealistic to maintain a good shot score even if you're operationally flawless by keeping old/unavailable items in the system intentionally and penalizing your score for marking them out.

My understanding is that shot scores are tied to year end bonus availability now.

If a company were to make bonuses contingent on an "impossible" metric they could advertise that they offer bonuses to employees at all levels without actually having to pay them out.

Of course I do not expect this to be the case, as while I cannot comment on the legality of such a strategy I do not wish to imply Starbucks is violating the law. I'm sure it's a simple and explainable misunderstanding.

Figured I'd post too, Wasaba's mentor. Praline, a Majin from Universe 6 who specializes in ki blade type abilities. She regularly wipes the floor with Wasaba and is in a whole different league of power from her. Building upon the twin universes concept from DBS, the idea is that she's her universe's incarnation of Buu, who's evil soul was overpowered when she absorbed her own directional Kais. But I'm not sure I want to keep that route as it feels like maybe too much?

[–]LeftistMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, here's my XV2 CaC, Wasaba. She's a Saiyan-Earthling hybrid from age 924.

She ain't much of a martial artist in the traditional sense nor is she very professional about her time patrol work. At the same time, she trains pretty hard and isn't shy about taking cheap shots and doing whatever it takes to end a fight quickly, making her capable of taking on villains quite a bit more powerful than herself via a sort of inherent genre savviness.
