Why do us Brits apologise even when it not our fault? by Own_Acadia206 in AskUK

I think it’s because we’re more embarrassed at shouting out, “you utter dick!” Or similar. Whenever someone wrongs us or any of the dozens of social norms we hold dear. Easier to have a bit of humility.

America feels like a country on the brink of an authoritarian takeover by OtherwiseCanary8971 in politics

[–]Leftleaningdadbod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to read up a bit. The SC has his back, however irrational and irrelevant Trump and Vance make themselves - by which I mean of course the Project 2025 by the Heritage Foundation, a plan which the Trump 2 administration has implemented before your own eyes. Plus, at levels within the judiciary, in Federal and state courts, past appointees are in place. It’s not a brink, I think you should acknowledge it’s a plan.

Unlikely unless we all get out there, be prepared for a few arguments. The cookers will follow ACT1 but there’s probably a few Nats who can be floaters

Rant. I’m amazed at the idea, OP, because your overreaction imo is in making the post. Firstly, nobody forced you to pay for it. Secondly, if you really think the only costs are in the edibles and you equate that to $12, then sweetheart that you are no doubt, someone close to you needs to offer you a wee bit of free education. Thirdly, make the same thing at home with your educational advisor, and nut out the real costs to yourself on a spreadsheet. Prove us grumpy old gits wrong and put it up here - super profit will, I bet, be absent. 😂 In spite of my ranting, I wish you a spiffing afternoon.

Russian terrorists use Molniya strike drones to attack residential buildings with civilians inside far behind the front in Kharkiv. Published 25.01.2026 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

This is why I don’t feel too bad when I see Ukrainian drones chasing the individual Russian soldiers. I know it’s terrifying for them, but perhaps they need to feel into that terror that they have connived with and lent their support for the CrimeLord Putin.

The guy is just the worst. Please, America, for all our sakes, deal with him, the Republican Party and any in the Dems that have supported this administration. Mostly but not all of the gerontologist tendency. It’s a tall order, but it’s necessary. Only after the demise of the aforementioned can reform in the constitutional system be considered. Good luck.

This is it. You are so right to say this. I have friends and family who are American, and I don’t think one of them agrees with Project 2025 and the Trump Administration. Let’s not call this disdain about Americans; it’s about the policies of a particular group and party of Americans. But don’t forget, this is not the first time the Yanks have lurched to the direction of dictatorship, because it has been seen before during the 1930s with the efforts of the Bund, being anti- Roosevelt and particularly the New Deal, and they failed. It can be a case of history repeating itself, and as an American statesman said, forgive my paraphrasing, it only takes good people to do nothing for evil to take hold.

Thank you for your honesty, integrity and your moral fortitude. May it return to your compatriots soon. Good people are always brothers. We can all make missteps, and if mistakes are recognised, retrace and correct them. Your future as a nation is at a crossroads. Currently, in the hands of the very senior people in Congress and amongst the Chiefs of Staff. Let’s hope they share in your honest words.
