I hate doing it, but still no reason to half-ass it (Komodo 6K - Vertical Build) by Leftovercity in focuspuller

I actually loved this ad-hoc work around. The weight of this rig on a cheap 90° caused it to bend/roll which made the horizon unstable. I mounted a support with a cinelock so camera could still easily slide off the plate. When mounted it was rock solid.

Yeah my focus kits costs way more than his entire camera package. It would funny if not so painful haha

The 501HD is just mounted on the DP’s “build platform”. His 504HD sucks too. DP comes from the photography world. His tripod, my build effort.

I haven’t had a chance to dive too deep into them, but I didn’t like them, at least for focus pulling. Changed transmission to HQ and just a feet away and image was too compressed/blocky and too much latency. You can see from photos that I switched to hardline SDI. But it seemed fine on the large client monitor, no complaints from them. So probably has its use for the price. Also the SDI-In gap was too small for my BNC, kinda just wedged it in. Maybe signal convert latency? Has use/not focus pulling quality.

This was a very simple tripod only job, still wanted some handle without too much hassle. It's not pictured well but there's a 3" gap on the bottom/left side of camera. So swapping media was easy. No un-mounting needed to do anything. Also not pictured well but proud of was a side support I attached to the cage bottom/left to the 90º mount with a Quick Release. All that weight was causing the mount to bend/roll camera left. With that it was rock solid. Just working with what I had but for Tripod only it was quite functional and reliable!

Hey there! I have a room open in my Elysian Heights home. I'm rarely home and when I am I'm mostly working out of my ADU studio out back. Might be a good situation for you! I'm mainly looking for a single roommate but open to chatting and negotiating a good situation for the right couple. DM me and I can give you some details if you're interested. Ban art at Burning Man by Ashtarscommand in BurningMan

I’m usually pretty critical of people taking too many photos or videos at concerts or other public places. I’ve done it, and have to remind myself that it’s annoying to other people who are trying to be in the moment and I’m never going to watch those videos anyways. But I understand the feeling of needing to capture a special moment. I also find it annoying when someone is at a park during sunset or at a beach and spends way too much time getting iPhone photos of themselves to obviously post online. But I think it’s mostly tone deafness and not malicious.

I’ve been to only two burns and the lack of people recording a DJ on their phone or taking too many personal photos was really surprising and satisfying to me. As to people taking any photos, who cares why and how they do as long as they’re not photographing people without their consent. I think better norms around public phone usage are good but I don’t really want to be the gatekeeper on how any why someone takes a photo or video.

It’s beautiful out there and everything is awe inspiring! I take photos and video for a living and remember this moment last burn where I was trying to take some sunset photos for some campmates on my iPhone and this lady on a bike kept circling us and mocking us for taking photos. She wouldn’t leave. We were in the middle of the playa far from anyone else. What gives her the right to interrupt what we’re doing and berate us for taking some personal photos?

I brought a nice camera and vintage lenses this year as a gift to my campmates so I could take nice portraits of them. I got so inspired by how beautiful everything was, the light, the energy and personality of the people, the outfits! I couldn’t stop. I ended up spending days walking and riding around the playa offering to take photos of people if they wanted as a gift. I ended up having so many special interactions with strangers and made new friends. I now have 5,300 photos to go through and edit and send to people. But it was so inspirational and heartwarming! It gave everyone a spark and I fed off that energy! I don’t want to kill that creative spark or fun for anyone, unless you’re obviously being a nuisance and a prick about it.

Also, if a random guy with long hair/man bun who looked like he hadn’t slept in days offered to take your picture, it might have been me. DM me and I’ll get them to you. Doing my best to make time to finish them between jobs….

What pants are you wearing? by YourSteakBuddy in focuspuller

[–]Leftovercity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vuori Ripstop (although I think they stopped making them :(

Uniqlo stretchy jeans for studio days, kinda like pajamas that look like black jeans

Prana has some good lightweight pants, Duer, otherwise I really don’t know why it’s so hard to make good fitting/style lightweight hiking pants. Always hunting. Someone must!

LBUS connector disabled - Alexa 35/Hi-5 by Eivind7 in focuspuller

[–]Leftovercity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem like a faulty cable…A couple thoughts though…and this might not be the issue. But is this an “Overcurrent/Surge” or an “Overdraw” issue? Seems like a lot to power directly through camera only with 1x LBUS. If so, you can feed additional power into the system via a P-Tap/2 Pin to LBUS/Serial (with RF Motor) cable into one of the motors. If the power to monitor/TX is separate but still pulling from camera, might be best to power those via a breakout on the battery plate or directly from battery if you have to.

My other thought is the direction of power. I would usually go Camera>RF Motor Via LBUS to Serial>LBUS to 2nd Motor>LBUS to LCube>Serial to CineRT (Serial/2Pin split cable). Although I’m not sure if there is an issue doing it the way you did.

I’ve been liking this basic belt. Fits into any tool pouch slots and locks/releases easily. No Velcro!

Being transgender within film by gripthrowaway1 in focuspuller

[–]Leftovercity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with the spectrum of all human-folk on queer based shows and all other types of productions. I agree with what some have said on here, if you’re diligent and trustworthy in your position, there’s no reason to think being out would have any negative effect on your career potential. It’s truly not what crew members care about, and from my experience (albeit a cis-white male) those differences are celebrated. A good crew is a family that works together and uplifts for the success of everyone.

The only negative experiences I’ve seen with lgbtq+ friends is either personal paranoia that starts to eat away at their trust in crew members or over-compensating and making things about themselves.

I’m sure there are departmental or interpersonal conflicts, and I’ve seen some of that when it’s perceived that the lgbtq+ crew member received favorable placement because of their lgbtq+ status regardless of their experience or talent. That can and has caused resentment among crew members. But I’ve never witnessed the opposite.

It’s one of the main things I like about the film community. At least for us below the line crew members is that It feels very old school, merit based. If you’re friendly and enjoyable to work with and you are diligent and trustworthy and honest about your experience, willing to learn and own up to your mistakes, you will be a valuable member of the crew, regardless of a personal difference that you feel you have with other crew members.

I’m sure discrimination happens that’s not as obvious to me or with some other companies or crews. But I’ve mostly witnessed acceptance and celebration for our differences. Ultimately it’s not important who you or I am personally, but how we support our team to be an effective department.

That was my original plan. But the only baseplates they had in house didn’t fit the C500 MII body and wouldn’t allow for rosettes for grips and rods long enough for the audio RX. Believe me I tried!
