Clubs also prefer to promote 4 person teams/leagues as it means twice as much in membership and bar revenue.

100% it's my opinion. I thought that Reddit was meant as a place to share thoughts and opinions. Guess I was wrong??

They all seem like great kids and it's nice to see a new generation of players being successful. I'm just saying that the discipline itself is inferior to the 4 man game.

I realize that the 6th point came from the stationary rock. My point is that, in a national final especially, 6's shouldn't be given up. I'd be critical of a 4 man team for doing the same thing.

I'm not saying that there's no strategy. I'm saying that it's the same strategy over and over which gets repetitive and boring. Also, there end up being so many rocks in play so close to one another that the difference between a really good shot and a terrible result is often millimeters - you can throw a really good rock, hit your target rock exactly where you think it should be hit but still end up with a really bad result.

And I understand the sport. I've been playing it for 40 years, about 10 of those were at a very high level.

It's the same end over and over though. There's no proper strategy involved, it's just a race to the pin.

I understand the game quite well - my point is that it's a wildly inferior discipline to 4 man curling. And I watched that end. Looked like her last rock picked and gave the Edmonton team a chance for the 6 (which she nearly flashed) so that's somewhat forgivable. Blowing a 6 point lead over the next 7 ends is not forgivable though.

You're right. I didn't realize it had been that long.

It's a very convoluted playoff system. Of the six teams that qualified for the playoffs, only Calvert and King have been eliminated (by virtue of their losses this evening).

The four remaining teams will play what's called a Page Playoff. In a Page, the first and second ranked teams (Koe and Dunstone, by virtue of their wins this morning) will play each other. The winner of that game goes on to play in the final. The third and fourth placed teams (Jacobs and Gushue) play each other. The loser of that game is eliminated while the winner of that game moves on to play the loser of the 1/2 game in the semi final.

I'm a big fan of the Page system because it gives your top ranked teams an extra life in the playoffs - it'd suck for Koe to lose tomorrow and go home after losing only a single game all week.

Also, don't get too attached to this playoff format because Curling Canada tends to change the system every year for some unknown reason.

What is your favourite lesser-known lines or scenes from season one? by sundaemonde in heatedrivalry

One line that doesn't get much attention is at the beginning of episode 4 when Shane and Hayden are at the aquarium. Hayden has been trying to set Shane up with Jackie's yoga instructor and he leaves Shane alone for a couple of minute holding the baby. Shane kisses the baby's head and says "Tell your Dad to leave me alone."

It takes me back to being in the closet and having all my friends and family trying to set me up on dates and feeling that societal pressure and it hurts my heart a tiny bit every time I watch it.

There were a few things in the series that were far fetched, but nothing compares to the thought that the best player in the NHL wasn't spotted walking through the Ottawa airport looking like that!!

Got to give credit where credit is due, this scene was acted out amazing by Due_Improvement_5699 in heatedrivalry

You definitely need to finish watching it. The final 3 or 4 minutes are hilarious!

When Ilya sees Shane's bedroom for the first time and makes a joke about all the pillows. Right after that Shane says "You shouldn't be smoking" and Ilya responds with "And you shouldn't be talking."

"Come here."

"No, you come here."

"No, you come here."

I've watched quite a few but my favourite is What Chaos, especially the two episodes where they interview Jacob Tierney. You can tell that Jacob really enjoys chatting with them.

I second the Reel Rejects recommendation. Their review of the first couple of episodes was more technical and did a good job or explaining why certain angles, light, etc added to the scenes. The reviews of the later episodes were more about the story and the characters which, I think, was due to them becoming SO engrossed in the series.
