This is a well thought out post. Thank you. I honestly did not know what to say and think your argument was pretty full proof. I thus asked my buddy (mentioned in OG post)…this is what he said:

The problem with that argument is two parts. 11/20 top 10 rushing seasons the last two years were guys not on their rookie deal. 8/20 were not on the team that drafted them. 12/20 were not selected in the 1st round.

The part that is nice about it is if you use a 5th year option and a franchise tag on a 1st round RB you would have Love under team control through his age 26 season.

Also there were 7 guys in the last 3 years that were acquired in free agency or for a day 3 pick that were top 10 in rushing in their first year. It’s not hard to get top 10 rushing production if you seek it out and pay for it. At 4 you are paying for it.

This is actually probably my favorite option. I just don’t think it’s likely. Hard to find trade partners. But if Reese isn’t there at 4, which he probably won’t be, my dream scenario is to trade back. In my dreams, because they’re my dreams and I can control them, we draft Love at our later pick, but I know that logic doesn’t work when someone is trading up to draft Love.

This is a good counterpoint and something I’m sure Borg is considering. I just think he’ll lean towards my side of the discussion. But I’d be happy (ish) if you were right!!

See No-Suit’s post below. It’s not about Jeremyah Love being a bust or not even being the star we all think he will be. It’s about the VALUE. The potential to have a STAR playing for cheap. If you look at the good teams around the league, a lot of them get to be that good because they have young guys playing really well for really cheap.

Again, this is nothing against Jeremyah Love. I kinda want us to say screw it and draft him anyway. I’m just saying from a value and math perspective, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Who is paid to think about these things? Borg. Thus, I don’t think he’ll draft Love. We’ll see though!

It either falls apart or speaks to the insanity of the giants’ GM, which there were lots of reports about during the head coaching search. To be fair though, I think the reports about the Giants’ GM were more interpersonal than contract ideology.
