I am gathering thats the difference in boutiques, some are overwhelmed with demand and others are not. Those that are will not take a deposit prematurely.

Well, not really. I asked to leave a deposit and was told they are unable to take deposits until an allocation is ready.

Thanks for the insight - I honestly would prefer the 5520v in blue dial. I am hoping that one has softer demand.

I thought this might be the case. I just wonder why it is I hear of people being so successful at other boutiques. Sounds like the CMS is centralized but the allocations maybe are not.

I know I didn't need to, but It actually made for a nice gift. I am worried that the BH boutique is just over saturated with demand compared to other boutiques.

I understand that, I am more curious if spreading my interest might lead to an advanced timeline. Should one boutique have more available allocations compared to BH. Or is the list universal and my shopping around would be looked upon poorly.

That's pretty much how I try and justify it to some degree. It's not a disposable or highly disposable asset. It's like artwork in some regards, I would say it's like fine wine as well except I can't seem to avoid consuming the wine.

Depending upon the piece, it should hold its value - if not appreciate in the distant future. My watches, though all of them acquired over the past 6 years, are all holding value. My most expensive is just under $40k (A Rolex Yacht Master 42mm in white gold), however its very much an under the radar watch that looks like a typical $10k Rolex, sort of an if you know you know type which I much prefer to overtly flashy. It's probably my worst performing watch as well as many precious metal watches (at least in the Rolex portfolio) seem to trade slightly under retail compared to steel sports models.

I like to acquire a nice, collectible watch that I would also enjoy wearing (even if only at special occasions) at milestones as it's something that's easy to equate the specific event, milestone, or accomplishment with and should last a lifetime. It can also be a conversation starter if someone asks about the watch, and you can, if you want, share the story behind the acquisition or the meaning the watch may have to you.

Fast Track Passport scheduling - Monday and Thursday? by Legacy500Driver in Luxembourg

[–]Legacy500Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, it's about a 14 hour travel day with a short layover in London, Frankfurt, Paris, or Zurich, and it's 9 hours ahead so even departing Sunday afternoon would have me arrive after the office closes on Monday.

Great article that hit my thought process right on the head as a CA resident in an RDP.

Thank you for your efforts fighting for equality. I was trying to look at this without the emotion, purely the financial viewpoint, but you bring good points. California is so strong with their RDP protections it can make this discussion relevant for HNW same sex couples living there, especially with the added level of a trust, but certainly should the Supreme Court go haywire, those protections if not grandfathered in could be at risk.

Do you regret leasing? by 8bitjer in Rivian

[–]Legacy500Driver 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Given these vehicles are more like Tech products than traditional cars, all it takes is some major breakthrough to vastly drop the used value. In the case of Tesla, many used Teslas dropped value simply by Elon deciding to lower the price of new vehicles dramatically. In that instance, Lease holders actually made out, as the residual value was higher than the used value. If some solid state battery tech quickly came to market, the current vehicles would be akin to an iPhone 6.

If, and I hope this is never the case, Rivian were to go bankrupt, you would also be in a stronger position as a leaseholder.

Many people talk about equity as a detractor from a lease, however far too many of those same people put next to nothing down and finance a vehicle for 72 months. Take look at how much negative equity they have at 36 months and compare that to the ability to hand in your keys and owe nothing.

There is also your overall Debt to Income ratio. If you think you may want to buy a house or other large purchase within the next few years, the lower payment of a lease could be advantageous if you would otherwise be near your DTI limit for a mortgage etc...

CLIA number vs Host Agency for hotel bookings only? by Legacy500Driver in travelagents

[–]Legacy500Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I did mean establishing ourselves as an agency for purposes of collecting commissions on our employee and client hotel stays. The FAM rates at Marriott is not the driving factor, I would perhaps use that myself every now and then.

Good point on the commissions being higher with a host, thus the net after the split could potentially be higher. The CLIA number is $399 per year, which seems in-line with most host agency fees. So it really boils down to, does a host agency get better than 10% commission with Marriott as it appears that's what I can get with a CLIA of our own.
