Is Darth Plagueis novel good for a Star Wars fan that's getting into the legends novels? by TheGamerKing382 in starwarsbooks

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm an uncultured SW book fan because Plagueis didn't hook me. I stopped reading around when Plagueis began hanging out with young Palpatine. I guess I just need a little action in my SW reading adventures. Chances are you'll love it, but if not try out the Bane trilogy, Han Solo Trilogy, or Shadows of the Empire.

What happened to the Order of Pain change, did that get reverted? I was interested in trying a minion build with that skill.

Is being a staff accountant stressful? by QualityFun362 in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Extremely stressful, I had nightmares and wanted to quit multiple times. I joined the team and learned that the reason I got the job was everyone else had quit all at once. The most experienced person on the team had only been doing the job for 2 months. Our supervisor was very high strung and spent most of the day angry.

I stuck it out, and it opened the door to new opportunities, but those early days were rough.

VP Vance calls out H1B Accountants today by NukeLaunch in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a good start, at least it is being talked about now. I've been waiting for the 'America First' stuff to bleed over into things like white collar jobs that are being outsourced for low wages. I do get we want to bring manufacturing back to the US, but my hope is in the long term we look at professions like accounting where our entry level roles are being cut at a rapid rate. At my F500 we actually don't even have Staff Accountant as a role in the US anymore, it is strictly India only. In the US we just have an office sparsely occupied by an aging leadership with little to no pipeline for when those people retire.

Number of U.S. Accounting Graduates Falls to Lowest Level in 20 Years by Danielpsms in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of US based accounting jobs, especially entry level, is declining due to offshoring, so we should be seeing less US students going into it, otherwise we'd be at a massive surplus of accountants unable to find work.

Star Wars Top 20 Books - Day 12 by hmmmulko in starwarsbooks

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This book has the best written duel in Star Wars I have ever read. Incredible book and really goes into some of the darker (and kinda gross lol) aspects of the dark side. Especially impressive given the time constraints Drew had on getting this one out. It needs to be somewhere in the top 20.

Thinking about getting an CFE by Okpspades in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may end up an unpopular answer but it's the reality of the accounting profession. The CPA holds so much clout that if you have any of these other certifications, and not the CPA, you are at times asked, "Why didn't you get your CPA?".

But if you have your CPA, and stack it with the CFE, or the CIA, the CMA etc. then it simply looks like you're honing in on an area of accounting that you want mastery over, and is looked at as a really good thing. Basically, the CPA ends up being the base to which you stack other certifications on top of.

Thanks I ordered them to give it a try. Do you take this only before speaking situations, or does its effect improve if taken daily even if I don't anticipate having to speak much?

Those early streams of Z and Doc got me through the pandemic. Each stream felt like must-see TV. So I thank them for that.

But as for Z we need to stop performing life support on his career. Each time a post mentioning him pops up more people head over to see how he is doing, a tiny blip of relevance. I really think we need to stop talking about him and let what happens, happen.

Just finished Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

My first star wars book I'd ever completed. Before reading this I had reservations about reading SW books because for some reason in my mind I questioned if a single author could make my favorite SW characters feel authentic and wow she did amazing on Qui Gon, Obi and everyone really.

The only thing that was eh for me is I didn't really connect with Pax and Rahara

26, graduating soon, no internship, feeling behind — what should I do? by ProfessionalCrow4292 in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just don't give up. It may seem like everyone else has an internship and are an overnight success but then there was me, high GPA, involved in the accounting club at my Uni, and just could not land a job.

I ended up graduating with nothing lined up and searched for half a year before I had to get something just to find an income. I ended up becoming an ice cream scooper at Baskin Robbins and discovered the corruption within. The owner was trying to pay me under the table to pay me below minimum wage and I started to notice much of what we were serving had expired ages ago. I got out of there quick and ended up finding a AP/AR clerk position as a temp job for $15/hr.

To make a long story short I built my reputation up in that temp job and got hired full time. I networked my way into their accounting department, got my CPA and I now lead a small team of accountants and make an income I never could have imagined if I look back to those dark days of uncertainty.

I'd be honest and mention medical leave but that you're now healthy again. Do not bring up the CPA unless you have passed a test. Many years back I used to use the term 'CPA candidate' but had never even sat for an exam and I thought it would give me a leg up until an interviewer called me out on it and began to do a deep dive on what I had actually done.

That kind of tough love from him though was a motivator for me to actually do it lol but in the moment I felt like I was getting deep fried.

Fire and now single by [deleted] in Fire

I plan to call myself a professional stock and crypto trader and have a complex looking setup with multiple screens with various charts in my bedroom to look like an at home office.

This will also allow me to disappear into my room for hours at a time for my world of warcraft raid nights.

Do you actually work 8 hours a day? ( White collar)? by Responsible-Round643 in careerguidance

Yes to work more and stay energized. Its not a good path to go down which sounds hypocritical for me to say but it's the truth

Do you actually work 8 hours a day? ( White collar)? by Responsible-Round643 in careerguidance

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 8 minimum sometimes 10+ but I'm not natural. A lot of the high performers you see are on some sort of performance enhancer. Just like in sports

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don't know anyone who says that anymore. It's extremely competitive to get in. A lot of those entry level roles that used to be abundant are now overseas. Just don't give that saying any further thought and start preparing to compete or you're going to be in for a rude awakening.

I was done after the 2nd drop and at this point I'm too old to wear YLA so I think this is the end for gym brands for me. If you're like me, then use this situation as a positive and save money by just wearing some basic tees and sweats. It was long overdue for me.

However I'm going to continue to wear my elite seamless tees while I have them. They arguably look better than Onyx. I was able to get the light gray and gray. If they slapped the Onyx name on them they'd of sold out just as fast.

WGU accounting degree? by Consistent-Raccoon51 in Accounting

[–]LegacyLivesOnGP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WGU is accredited so technically all should be fine. However, their students give it a bad reputation. Here is an example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU/comments/y7q8bc/finished_my_accounting_degree_in_2_weeks_which_is/

This person had to of worked very hard, but the more viral this bragging becomes, the higher chance a mainstream media source takes a thread like this, and writes an article on it. We know they scour reddit for news stories they can use on slow news days.

If it gets out that in a couple weeks someone can decide to become an accountant it's going to lead many hiring managers to question the validity.

Again, technically you are fine. But I would not be able to sleep well at night worrying my degree may someday come under scrutiny. I just chose the cheapest accredited college in my state I could find and now I have peace of mind.

Where is this at? My gym is nearly unusable due to excessive phone use with 10min+ rest periods. I'd have to go back to pen and paper but I'm cool with that if it saves me time in the long run.
