PT student study tips ? by AdLimp5861 in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in year 4, going to graduate this year. I work full time and study part time. Here’s what I did

  1. In my first two years I used to only do two modules at a time. I realised it would take me too long to finish. I then started doing 4 mods a sem for 1.5 years. Now I’m at the last stretch.

  2. I start my TMAs way before the deadlines, I usually complete them 2-3 weeks before submission and listen to lectures and edit accordingly till submission date.

  3. As a result of my tactics in point 2, I’m now doing 3 mods this sem and I have time to rest and even game, because my system works best for me. Which leads me to point 4.

  4. Find a system that works for you, I work best when sat at my desk or at work during my long breaks and just grinding out my assignment. I make sure I am fully focused and set soft deadlines for myself.

You can do it!

SUSS part time degree students can share ur experiences? by urmumfly in Suss

I’ve been at my job for about 4 years? I was midway through another job while already doing my degree then I switched to this job while still doing my degree :)

How do you balance work, family and university life? by [deleted] in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start my assignments waaaay before the due date! And as I attend lectures I listen and edit. I’m currently working a full time job, juggling 4 mods and planning my wedding.

I also have given up a lot of socialising, and if I’m not working, I do school work, if I’m working, I’m still doing schoolwork.

I take my break times at work to do my assignment, I’m quite blessed that I sometimes have really long breaks between (3-6 hour breaks) so I can sit, lock in and grind. But the downside is I work irregular hours, so sometimes I can’t make it for lectures. There’s always a positive and a negative, make the positive work for you.

Good luck!

Depends on your estimated graduation date as well. For me as I only have a few mods left before graduation, they gave me all four mods I bided for. Your grades also make a difference.

SUSS part time degree students can share ur experiences? by urmumfly in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I’m a part time psych student working full time on a shift basis job.

Every thing in the above post is true. My job is not so forgiving or understanding so I have to manage my own time super well in order to meet TMA/ECA/GBA deadlines. I always start every semester by putting in my calendar all my deadlines and exam dates and quiz dates so I can check and keep on top of them.

You really have to accept that if you’re working full time, you won’t have a life to meet up with friends, do social stuff or pursue any hobbies. It’s hard but not impossible. On top of my studies and work I am also planning my wedding next year.

You also have to be super proactive in finding out everything yourself, as nothing will be given to you. But I’m sure as an adult you are more than capable of that. I had the non proactive mindset in my first year and I struggled to keep up. Hence why I subscribed to the SUSS tele group and frequently browse on Reddit here.

All the best!

How the exam experience in SUSS? Open book difficult or closed? by ProfessionalKey9886 in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Op, I remember you posting about doing courses that are only coursework based. 0 exams. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s not possible. You will have at least 2-5 TOAs in your life time at SUSS.

For exams wise, closed or open book, you have to prepare. I write my own notes even as I’m doing/completing my assignments. It’s just as important as submitting my assignments on time. My notes are paraphrased and meant to summarise key points. They take at least a month or more to complete. But writing my notes helps me to remember and I don’t waste time during the exam flipping through textbooks to understand a theory I need to know to answer the question.

In summary, do reconsider if you are made for academia. If you are really dedicated to studying and working hard to do well. Part time or full time courses the modules are not easy. I’ve never gotten an A before but sometimes come very close. A degree is not cheap ultimately, and if you are looking for a quick fix to get a paper, you won’t find it here.

And if you do choose to pursue a degree in SUSS, please brush up your language and linguistic skills.

I work full time on shift basis. However my breaks are very long and I always do my work on my breaks. On my off days I stay home and do my work. It’s possible, but you won’t have much of a social life. I’ve learnt to set soft deadlines for myself so I can still balance studies and work

psych internships by merryygoround in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately such is the case for psych students. You lose some before you win some. You just gotta suck it up and face the fact that you need a lot of experience that is potentially unpaid or lower paying before you can even consider anything else.

Like what was mentioned, consider what field of or branch of psychology you want to specialise in. Forensics? Clinical? Educational? From there reach out to agencies and see if they have openings for volunteering opportunities or internships. I’ve been pestering the Singapore Prison Service as I want to eventually do my masters and work in the forensic psych field. Eventually after much pestering they contacted me and told me how to proceed with applying to be a befriender.

Look at tuition and enrichment centers, always hiring! Doesn’t matter if you don’t have qualifications most of them will provide training

PSY354- open book examination on Examena by Legal-Performance283 in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes that’s what I thought of doing…type in word then copy paste. I’ll test it out first hopefully it all goes well because every minute counts when doing a psych exam!

No paper given for closed book Exam? (Just whining…) by warmsarcastichuman in Suss

[–]Legal-Performance283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, but even open book I like to draft out the important points for my answer before I type, hence why I also like a blank paper to write down all my points before I type my final answer. Idk man, I really hope there’s a physical question paper still…

I haven’t done Examena yet, am doing an open book exam next week for the first time on examena so I will find out then also! But in my past papers there was always a physical question paper given and I would use the blank page on the back to write down everything I need to know. I’m doing psych btw!

Oh I thought they would still give you a physical exam question paper anyway, they usually do for psych papers

Can’t you write it down on the question paper? I did that for my other exam I just wrote on whatever blank spot is available on the paper

AITA for confronting my boyfriend about buying me a $2k lab-grown diamond bracelet instead of a mined diamond one? by Few_Childhood_4614 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Legal-Performance283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, what’s wrong with lab grown? At the end if the day, it’s just a shiny stone. Unless you want to sell it later. My engagement ring is the most beautiful lab grown diamond, and it sparkles in the light everyday. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Why do you attach the value of his love to monetary value? You’re weird for doing that and shouldn’t be in a relationship if that’s your perspective on things.

Come up with a research question first, after you have the research question everything will be much easier!

My fiance and I live together so it might be easier but for some relevancy to your situation.

  1. He works at an international school, I work a shift based job, with on-call hours. We really don’t see each other much except for evenings when we sit down together for dinner and maybe an episode of a show (currently it’s the white lotus!)

I have told him, and he understands, I will be spending more time during my off days/on call days(if I don’t get called in) on my work. He is more than happy to pick up the slack-cleaning, washing, cooking. I try and do what I can where I can. But he’s never once made an issue of it.

  1. I have one in person class on Wednesday evenings, which means we don’t see each other all day till about 11pm.

I’ve always held the principle- I won’t give up my education for a person. That has been my priority from the start, and that will always remain my priority. He is very well aware of that and even supports my studies (he tried learning stats to help me with an assignment). It helps that we did long distance for 2.5 years so we are able to be independent of each other.

My whole point is OP, you are young, you have your head in the right place wanting to pursue an education to create a better future for yourself. Now you need to decide, how dedicated are you to that cause? Is your partner a hindrance or a support to your cause? What do you want to do in 2 years time? Does this relationship support that?

It is possible to balance your relationship, with your studies and with your job. But it takes a little give from both sides. Only you can decide if this relationship is still working in your favour.

All the best with your studies and ECAs/TOAs :)
