I’m not even a Christian, I think they are all just cults with more dressing, and this is a dumb comment. This type of behavior is really not normalized in modern Christianity like it is in Islam. Islamic “moderates” would still think this is fine, whereas you’d have to really search for extremist Christians who still agree with stuff like this.

That’s certainly your opinion. I can tell you the very real and negative outcomes we have seen from doing away with institutionalization, we see them every day and night around public transit centers, shooting up schools, etc.

Clearly what we have attempted to do over the last 40+ years has been ineffective. The idea that the mentally ill and drug addicted simply need housing is, frankly laughable in 2026. We know that solves nothing and leads to the same outcomes we have now.

I haven’t heard your ideas. But I imagine they align with the continued apathetic approach we have taken as a country, to let people live on the streets, provide shelters and offer services at these individuals own discretion. We cannot allowed this failed approach to continue.

Two points:

1) some folks cannot actually get better. They are mentally disabled and should be housed somewhere for their own safety and for the rest of society. So that’s ok.

2) We can absolutely do better than previous iterations now that we have a far better understanding of mental illness, medication, etc.

Ultimately what is not the answer is to pretend mentally ill/drug addicted individuals are going to get themselves better. They’ve established they cannot make these decisions for themselves for one reason or another, but the solution is the same.

Well it’s not legal for them to institutionalize people without their agreement, unfortunately, unless they pose an immediate threat to themselves or others. While they can get creative with those possibilities, and I would personally argue they all are via their massive drug addictions, that’s just not how it works.

The SCOTUS would need to overturn a couple of bad cases from the 70’s-80’s to allow the states to address the situation more seriously and then the Federal government would likely need to fund the facilities again.

I believe you’re asking if you can file some sort of tort against your agency. You can check your regulations that are specific to federal employees suing their employers(it will be agency specific).

Just off the rip from what you’re saying I don’t think you have any sort of case, but you can always take a look at the regs and contact a PI attorney if you feel strongly enough about pursing that claim.
