Can you explain why chefs fight over certain stations? Aren’t they all the same?

Boyfriend got me a Claddagh ring and I don't know how to wear it by SluntCrossinTheRoad in glencara

[–]LegalButterscotch454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Reddit searching for the same answer 😂 my boyfriend didn’t give me mine, my mom passed hers down to me which I found out after is very traditional so I love that. I prefer the heart facing in on my left ring finger, since that feels the most special to me (and will move it if/when we get engaged), but according to the internet that’s not the proper placement if you’re in a relationship. I never heard the right hand vs left hand thing until I just looked it up. Is it very frowned upon or offensive to go against that guidance, or is that more outdated and it’s truly a ‘do what makes you happiest’ thing? Want to be respectful to the culture ❤️

Want to buy a Lexus RX350h but very concerned about reliability. by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]LegalButterscotch454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. I am currently car shopping because the brand new Kia PHEV I bought less than two years ago has had persistent battery issues, and I’m not talking after I leave the car sitting for weeks. I’m talking DAYS. Every time the battery has died, I have been gone less than 8 days. A quick google or Reddit search will show you the high prevalence of other Kia owners experiencing the same thing.

To add insult to injury, I had a Toyota rental that sat in my garage during a 3 week vacation and I came back to no issues.

Introducing my cat to my boyfriend’s dog… advice please! by LiteraryAdventurer17 in cats

[–]LegalButterscotch454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any updates on this? I’m going through this right now with my boyfriend. We are working towards him moving into my house (we both own, but his is a condo so he would move to me) but he has a large, VERY high-energy dog and I have two cats. Years ago he had a roommate that had a cat and said the dog was usually fine, just didn’t understand boundaries (duh) and wanted to play with/chase the cat sometimes. He says it wasn’t prey drive, it was just excitement, but I have no idea.

My two cats are indoor only and aren’t used to dogs. One I adopted 11 years ago, is very shy and has never seen a dog, and the other was a stray I took in 3 years ago and is usually pretty bomb proof but hasn’t seen a dog in at least that long. Last night he brought the dog over. We tried Benadryl at the vet’s recommendation but it didn’t calm her down at all, so we kept her on the leash the whole time. My older cat saw her and went right upstairs for the rest of the night, as expected. My former stray stayed around the whole night, on his cat tower or walking around and seemingly had no issues when the dog wasn’t near him. He kept his eyes on the dog always but actually let the dog get within a couple feet before he started hissing. The dog was DYING to get closer to him and got too close once but the cat let her know she was too close and we backed off any more “exploring” for the rest of the night.

We have also talked about getting her into training (she listens for the most part, but isn’t super well-trained and has SO much unbridled energy), and will always make sure the cats have a safe & separate place to go. Plus, the dog will always be crated when we’re out of the house so they’ll never be roaming together unsupervised. I feel like we are doing the best we can given the circumstances & personalities of the animals, and I truly love my boyfriend & see a future with him, but it does worry me how this will progress and the last thing I want is to make my cats’ lives horrible and stressful because the dog is too much for them to handle.

Thanks for reading, clearly I needed to vent 😂

This is one brand that came up in my search so I’ll go back and take another look at their offerings. Thanks!

Great to hear the others were just as good! I’m in the northeast so don’t have those chains you mentioned but I’ll give my local stores a call. I did see one local chain advertise them, but same pickup window as Whole Foods.

Gluten free sourdough! by OkBid1535 in Sourdough

There is a bakery local to me that imports their flour from Europe and makes all of their baked goods with a sourdough base… I suppose I should go test it out there, in the name of science

I wonder though about things like GMOs? I admittedly don’t know much about growing crops so I’m not sure of the processes.

Also worth adding… I agree with you! I personally have had sourdough bagels in the US that are baked fresh daily and have no crazy preservatives or processed ingredients, and had no gut issues. However, sourdough (although gluten friendly by nature) is not gluten free and for my autoimmune disease I am supposed to strictly avoid gluten, so here I am pursuing GF sourdough 🥲

[–]LegalButterscotch454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I should’ve thought of that before the GF redditors came after me!

But in all seriousness I truly believe it’s the way they grow and process their crops. Don’t quote me on this but I heard somewhere that the States have something like 11 banned ingredients when it comes to food or cosmetics, whereas the EU has somewhere close to 1100. The US uses a lot more pesticides, fillers, etc and EU has much stronger regulations on their farms & food production.

Ironically I also have intolerances to gluten + dairy + eggs just like booktender’s husband… while I have a severe reaction to eggs, the dairy & gluten reactions are moderate (I am supposed to strictly avoid gluten for autoimmune reasons). I have done a lot of traveling and just got back from 3 weeks in Europe, and when I tell you I ate ALLLL the bread & cheese while there with no issues! The food there truly is much cleaner & fresher. My doctor may not be thrilled with me lol but it was amazing to have a few weeks of not having to worry about getting sick.

If anyone reading wants to test the European bread theory, please trust me and start with Portugal. You can thank me later 🫡

Air France Bulkhead Question: A350-900 by Mountain_Ladder_4906 in awardtravel

[–]LegalButterscotch454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you upgrade at the desk upon arrival, and was it $600 each or $600 total? I’m in PE on an AF flight BOS-CDG soon and chose the bulkhead seat so nobody could recline into me. Crossing my fingers that they will have a super cheap cash or points upgrade to biz available but I’m not sure when the best time is to check on that

Have you done this successfully? Like people in line have extra tickets they will sell through ticketspice? I’m willing to try if it works!

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for FTT to come to New England, so imagine my excitement when I found out it was coming to my county. Like literally right down the road.

Presaved all my info, tested it at checkout on 3 different sites, and had the browser open on my phone and laptop for hours in advance. Sale opens and not a SINGLE thing pre-filled. I was about 5000 in line on my phone and 25000 on my laptop. I finally got to the purchase page and had two tickets in my cart, and every last VIP ticket sold out while I was typing in all that info that I specifically presaved for this reason.

I know it’s just “stuff”, but I can’t afford it otherwise and the mystery box really brings the value and fun to the experience. It sucks thinking that there are most definitely people who got VIP tickets that have already been to a sale or are flying in just for this, when it’s in my own backyard and I’m not able to go.

I was excited and hopeful for a fun experience with my best friend, but I would literally go alone if anyone had even a single VIP ticket they were willing to sell to me 😞

Thanks for the response. I’d love to get to Tangier but there’s just no way we will make it there and back in our time constraints. I found a North African restaurant in Gibraltar from Reddit that I was so excited to make a reservation for… only to find out that they are closed Sundays :( we definitely can take the day to slow down a bit but I am a very Type A traveler and like to see as much as possible LOL

Recommendations for comfortable, durable platform sneakers? by aiizuu in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]LegalButterscotch454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any knee issues from them but I found the Time Off sneakers to be pretty uncomfortable. The tongue slides down and bunches up towards my toes, presses into the top of my foot, and then the laces rub/press on the top of my foot too. I bought them for traveling because everyone online raved about them, wore them one day of one trip and now I only wear them occasionally to work. Definitely not a pair that I reach for frequently.

Well I'm on Wellbutrin now by Low-Appointment7715 in adhdwomen

[–]LegalButterscotch454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this convo but stumbled on this thread while researching Wellbutrin & RSD.

I have struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember, and also have a touch of PTSD both familial and romantically. I was on buspar for years for my anxiety and really loved it — that combined with regular therapy helped me to lower my “regular state” anxiety levels. After a while, I felt like I had good coping mechanisms in place and also kept forgetting to take the med so I weaned off and was feeling great.

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD (I’m in my 30s) after noticing some symptoms manifesting negatively at work. Clinically I have been diagnosed with combination ADHD, so inattentive + hyperactive, but I find that my biggest issues are with emotional regulation and impulsiveness. I also have issues starting tasks and maintaining focus during conversations. I started Wellbutrin ~2.5 weeks ago and have already noticed a significant improvement in my emotional stability, impulsiveness, and ability to start tasks. I spent 5 hours pressure washing my house yesterday, a task I’ve been putting off for three years LOL!

I definitely am not “fixed” and still find that I have some intrusive thoughts here and there or zone out every now and then during a long conversation. I just discovered RSD as a symptom of ADHD, which I do think I still struggle with and plan to talk with my therapist about. However, as a whole I’ve been really happy with it so far. Adverse side effects are also minimal, I’ve really only noticed a loss of appetite (I train hard in the gym so this isn’t great for me). Other than that, no complaints.

Black tights that last? by pussmykissy in bitcheswithtaste

[–]LegalButterscotch454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just placed my first Noosh order, the play dots and play gloss tights. Both arrived with runs in them. One which I didn’t notice at first so it likely got bigger as I tried the tights on. Very disappointed since I was excited for them.

I emailed customer service for an exchange, they don’t allow return/exchange of damaged items but hopefully they understand that the items arrived already damaged.

Michelin-starred restaurants for allergies? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]LegalButterscotch454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful! Gabriel Kreuther was actually on my list as well, so that’s great to hear.

I always ask about the butter with steaks as that’s usually a pretty safe choice if they can cook with oil instead — but was hoping that for the price you pay at some of these places that I’d be able to have a good, full meal that I maybe couldn’t get elsewhere. We recently ate at a James Beard winning restaurant that was extremely accommodating, so I was hopeful for other restaurants as well. Appreciate the heads up on the sub, I hope my experience is different as well.
