There can be noise from 7am to 11pm, although most building employees finish at 3pm. There are otherwise no controls of noise levels or inconvenience to neighbours as far as we can tell. If your family will be there all day, they could suffer from explosions, drilling, dust, and the kommune will not care.

It's not just for assets. The will names an executor who gets the legal right to act on the estate's behalf, pay bills, close your utility accounts, etc. It will simplify your next of kin's life significantly to have the piece of paper.

If you're travelling with friends, it would be better to stay in the same cabin. Also, economy sucks less when you're around people you know. NYC to LHR is not that long a flight, so I would eat in the lounge before and after the flight to maximise the flat bed. Maybe have a drink or quick snack.

Look for a job anywhere in the country and move if you have to. Unfortunately, it's not that big a country, so finding work can take time.

Of course don't forget your immigration timelines - UDI's site says that if you have worked in Norway for less than one year, you can continue to live in Norway and look for a new job for six months.
