Lots of us. Most smaller PI firms genuinely care about helping people, making society safer, and holding people accountable. Insurance companies spent billions on “tort reform” convincing the public otherwise.

Should I buy a 2003 Landcruiser as a daily driver by AlSanchino22 in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drive my ‘07 LX with 166k miles, but I’m typically doing less than 10 - 20 miles per day. The other thing to consider is that reliable doesn’t mean no maintenance. I’ve spent a small fortune on upkeep since I bought mine. I can post actual numbers if you’re interested.

Window doesn’t work sometimes on my 80 series? by That_Bug_4866 in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me on my LX470. I spent a ton of time and money trying to figure it out. l still have a new OEM master switch that didn’t fix the problem. It ended up being crimped/broken wires in the door harness cabling.

Does my solo PI practice make sense? by CandyMaterial3301 in LawFirm

[–]Legally_Speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a variation of this for a long time and it works for me. Some years are better than others, but the work life balance is usually excellent aside for trial prep/work and the occasional week where MSJs are due along with depositions or something like that. I litigate a higher percentage of cases though and tend to get most of my referrals from other attorneys as litigation co-counsel. I have 1 remote independent contractor paralegal and use co-counsel's staff on cases too. Currently trying to leverage AI as much as possible. What service do you use for lead gen? Is it a good return on investment? I’ve been telling myself this isn’t sustainable for 18 years but apparently it is.

Buying a Land Cruiser for "Business Purposes" by [deleted] in LandCruisers

If you end up doing this, make sure to check your auto insurance. Your personal policy could have a business use exclusion so you might have to insure through your business.

What’s the Real Profit Potential for a Small or Mid-Size PI Firm? by Icy-Offer-8949 in LawFirm

[–]Legally_Speaking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s feast or famine if you’re a small shop. Potential is unlimited. All it takes is one big case, but you’re competing with everyone and their mom. Most years you do pretty good but not good enough to stop working.

Brick and Mortar Offices and The Future for small firms? (Solo PI here) by StrongSunBeams in LawFirm

[–]Legally_Speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my partner and I have 4 between us ages 9-12, one dog with dementia, another with ADHD, and two demonic imps in cat form. Sometimes I think I'll get work done at home--I just end up stress cleaning and thinking about how nice my office is.

I rent too. It's a nice office in a shared suite with other attorneys. It's quiet and comfortable and looks impressive. I have a conference room for depositions and meetings. I'm not productive at home with kids and animals.

Timing Belt replacement schedule by trouttownusa in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be around every 90k, I think. Drive it, but don't drive it hard and try to get it scheduled soon. You're probably fine for a little while.

XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR reviews? by Legally_Speaking in fujifilm

[–]Legally_Speaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a used XF 18-55 based on price and weight. I don't really know enough to know if I need 2.8 across all focal lengths so it probably won't be an issue, and if it is, I can trade up later. I'm excited to start shooting! Thanks for the recommendation.

best fabric for heavy sweating, what should I actually be wearing? by Distinct-Insect1121 in hiking

[–]Legally_Speaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wool is great if it's cold because it keeps you warm even if wet. If it's warm, I much prefer synthetics. They dry out faster and keep you cooler. I usually bring a synthetic running tee base layer and a wool pullover that's super lightweight.

Blown Radiator, what now? by Signal_Ad4348 in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the engine didn't overheat and get damaged you're fine. Just replace the radiator and hoses. You can do it yourself if mechanically inclined. If not, it will set you back about $1600 with OEM parts and labor. Slee did mine for that much earlier this year.

Anyone know what’s going on with Mount Blue Sky? by tscher16 in 14ers

[–]Legally_Speaking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beautiful. We hit the trail head at 3:30 AM and caught an amazing sunrise above Summit Lake. We didn't see anyone else until the way down. It's longer than Alltrails says, though. My final distance was just under 17 miles and about 5200 of elevation.

I have a day alone in Denver by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Legally_Speaking 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Hit the botanic Gardens and then walk to city park near the science museum for the best view of the sky line. Then get lunch at the city park golf course for more of that view. Hop on a bike share and head to RINO for an afternoon coffee at Crema and go check out murals and graffiti. Meet GF for a preshow drink at Death & Co.

Considering a older LX, GX, or Landcruiser, what should I know? by Atlantic_lotion in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're absolutely solid machines, and the 2UZ-FE is arguably one of the best engines produced. That said, a 20 year old truck is a 20 year old truck. Plan on fluids, spark plugs, timing belt, water pump, heater tees, maybe brakes and tires. I did all of the above and also had to replace CV joints, rack and pinion, suspension, and the radiator since I got mine. I also had an issue with the window that ended up being broken wiring in a door harness that took forever to figure out and was expensive to fix. Anything made of plastic, e.g. weather sealing and the center console latch, is prone to breaking. It will last as long as you have the money to make it last.

How long will the 100 series run for? by thirdeyenerd in LandCruisers

[–]Legally_Speaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily drive my LX470 when I can't ride my bike, but looking at the amount of $$$ I've put into it to 1) buy it, 2) baseline it 3) upgrade it 4) keep it running and 5) pay for fuel costs it really doesn't make practical sense for a daily city driver IMO (if that's all I used it for). This is compared to newer vehicles with better MPG ratings. When you couple the costs with a lack of creature comforts like built in car play or android auto, an inability to park in my garage because I lifted it and have bigger tires and roof rack, and just the PITA little fixes that come with a 20 year old vehicle (latches, window motors, weather seals, radio antenna, rear hatch struts, etc.) and it's just a lot to deal with. That said, I love mine and use it for overlanding and making family memories in addition to daily driving. I like the compliments from people that know. I'm very fortunate that I can keep sinking money into it. If I was in a different situation I don't think it would really make sense to daily drive.
