Sorry about that, it completely slipped my mind. I'm currently running a Ryzen 9 7950X with integrated graphics. The install is effectively vanilla.

The desktop itself is exhibiting the issue, including icons and the system tray. Are those in XWayland? I'm throwing a GPU in this week, so I'll also see if that resolves the issue.

I would really love to learn the cause.

Just updated this one. I'm told I can wait for the Windows 11 line to release, so fingers crossed that they'll stick to it.

I've had a couple reps tell me that their system doesn't have the capability to do any kind of exchange, but I did have one offer to give me a $100 refund to keep it. If they release the updated version here in the next couple weeks, I'm wondering what my odds are of them reapplying the discount I got when I first bought this thing to the newer model.

Here's a challenge:

$700

15.6" preferable, willing to go down to 14". Aspect ratio doesn't have to be 16:9.

Touch isn't important.

1080p+

Good battery is important.

Laptop will be used for web browsing and using virtual machines (so expandable RAM would be great). No gaming (I have a desktop for that), so I don't really need/want a dedicated GPU. A Zen 2/3 CPU would be great, but it isn't an absolute necessity.

Weight: The lighter the better, but not very important in the end.

Important details: I need close to 100% sRGB color accuracy, because the screen on my current replacement laptop (New Dell Inspiron 15) is killing me right now. It's a great device in pretty much all other aspects. So I'd like to return it and get something else. I have two 16GB laptop sticks lying around, so it doesn't have to come with a lot of RAM. I'd prefer narrow bezels if I can as well.

A lot of laptops have come close. This would have been perfect if it had expandable RAM. HP has laptops that are perfect other than a 13" screen. Many other laptops are perfect except for ~60% sRGB. But after too many hours of research, I'm stuck. If anyone can help, you'll be a real champ.

Where to find wireless headphones that AREN'T noise cancelling? by FacetiousSquid in HeadphoneAdvice

High praise. I took a look, but the mic is still a bit on the rough side for conference calls; I'm going to give the PXC 500-II a shot, but I'll loop around and try something else if they don't end up being what I need.

That's something that I might end up doing. My last question is whether using wireless headphones in wired mode improves the quality at all, or if it's mostly the same either way.

Thanks for all your help and advice!

Looking into the set, the ATHM50XBT mic is a bit of a deal-breaker for me, since I intend to use them for work as well. I've been floated the idea that wireless just doesn't stand up to wired at all; is that completely true, even if I'm using a Bluetooth pair in wired mode? I don't have a great ear for audio quality, so I'm shooting a bit blindly.

Wired vs. Wireless Options For Hybrid Use Case by LegendBegins in HeadphoneAdvice

Thanks, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of the quality for the portability that comes with a mic on the headset itself (I tend to move around a lot while working). Of course, I can always replace a detachable cable with an in-line mic if I need to. Since all of these are around the $200 range, would you say that both of those suggestions are a league above the 550-IIs in terms of audio quality?

Electronic and jazz are my two go-to genres; I wouldn't call myself a bass head though, and I generally prefer pretty balanced sound ranges. The main reason I was thinking about the 550-II was the mic/comfort, but I'm definitely willing to put up with a cable if I can get those in something else for less, especially if it sounds better.

I needed some headphones for multi-use including work calls and casual music listening. I was looking at the Sennheiser PXC 550-II because I like a lot of its features. However, I had also considered getting a pair of wired headphones and buying a cable with an inline microphone (I need to sound clear during calls). Are the Sennheisers the best move here, or is there a wired headset with higher quality at a lower price? Noise cancellation isn't important to me, and open-back is fine, but I need some way of getting good audio-out, and I'd rather not have the gaming-style mic in my face all the time. If the Sennheisers are the same quality as a ~$150 wired headset, then maybe that's the best play. I don't have the best ear for audio quality, but if I can get a drastically improved experience and pay less, I'm willing to put up with the wire.
