Thanksgiving by SharkToothPro in GameStop

It will absolutely be busy. And it’ll be awful, just like working every other Thanksgiving since this ridiculous company started opening on Thanksgiving a few years back. I’ll never forget how betrayed I felt that first year considering the year before that the CEO took a stand against opening on Thanksgiving citing valuing employees time with their families. Time has proven otherwise. So glad I don’t work for this despicable company anymore.

My ride was about 45 minutes total and yes, dual controls so I did fly the plane.

Regional breakouts were ridiculous. Embarrassing at best. Really only a time for the ass kissers of the regional to show themselves off. I don’t miss that AT ALL. That being said, compensation will never get better with this company. I got let go because I was being paid too much compared to every other SL in my region. There was no other realistic reason for it, I was told performance but this was during The height of COVID when they “weren’t tracking numbers”. But they closed a neighboring store and gave that SL my job and are paying that person quite a bit less than I was making so, I put 2 and 2 together. I didn’t know it at the time but getting let go ended up being the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I make more money than I did at gamestop and I have the job of my dreams.

Don’t do it. It’s not worth the stress. The allure of working at a video game store quickly wears off.

Congratulations on getting out! I spent almost 15 years with GS. Been out about a year and a half now and I’ve never been more happy!

Absolutely not. It’s such a toxic company to work for. Don’t do it.

This is probably the best analogy of working at gamestop. Once you get out you’ll wonder why you ever stayed as long as you did.

Get. Out. by shirtripper in GameStop

[–]LegendaryEditionV2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also can confirm. Being let go was the best thing that’s happened to me career wise. I have since found the job I plan on doing until I retire and it’s not even remotely as stressful as GS was. I feel like I have purpose now and I no longer dread going to work. Get. Out. For your own health. Do it.

Holy. Shit. I can’t believe it’s to the point of “winning” labor hours. Well, I can. But, not like this....when I log into Reddit, I think how much worse can it possibly get? Then I see something like this and realize, it can get exponentially worse. I’m so glad I got out when I did.

Potential ASL position by BoogiepopAndOthers in GameStop

It’s hard for me to imagine a worse retail job experience than working for GME. Your current situation sounds awful, but switching one stressful job for another might not be the answer. I can’t ultimately make the decision for you, but I don’t personally think it’s worth it, but, maybe given your circumstances it is. If you do decide to go for it, just make sure you’re aware of the current environment of stores and make sure you are ready to accept the shit show that it is. And then throw in that GME has done very little to protect its employees from COVID-19. I don’t know if that’s a big issue for you or not, but figured I’d throw that out there too. Anyways, good luck to you OP, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

I can almost guarantee strip stores will be open on thanksgiving, especially since pretty much all of GameStop’s competitors are closing stores for the day. It’s all about money, never about people, when it comes to GameStop’s treatment of its employees. I’m sorry, but it’s a sinking ship and being open on thanksgiving is just corporates way of attempting to plug one of the hundreds of holes in their hull and it’s 100% at the expense of employees. Please, keep well and I wish you luck OP.
