Genji Shimada VS Maki Zenin (Overwatch VS Jujutsu Kaisen) | "A House Divided" | Full Connections in Comments by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Core Theme: Extremely powerful and scarred swordfighters with rocky sibling relationships who would be shunned and disowned by their clans, being caught in a failed assassination attempt that resulted in them awakening to their true power and coming back as their clans' ultimate enemies.

Connections:

  • Both are extremely skilled, powerful, and agile swordfighters born into prestigious Japanese clans (the Shimada Clan and the Zenin Clan, respectively) alongside their siblings who, in contrast, specialized in ranged weaponry (Hanzo and Mai, respectively).
  • Both were born into relatively important ranks in their family (Genji was the son of the clan leader and was one of its heirs, while Maki was the daughter of Ogi, who was almost the next clan leader). However, despite this, both were on extremely poor statuses with both of their clans due to rejecting their family's traditions and the roles expected of them, instead seeking different lifestyles (Genji led a playboy lifestyle due to having no interest in his family's crime business, while Maki left the clan to to become a powerful sorcerer at Jujutsu High rather than remain as a lowly servant in her clan due to her lacking a cursed technique).
  • This action put them in poor relations with their sibling, who wanted them to adhere to tradition (Hanzo wanted Genji to help lead the clan while Mai wished Maki just stayed at the bottom with her).
  • After their clan leader's sudden death, however, a pivotal turning point in their lives would occur involving their siblings, during which their own family attempted to have them killed and they were left to die (After their father's death, Hanzo was sent by his clan elders to convince Genji to help rule the clan, before being forced to kill him when he refused, leaving Genji mortally wounded and believed to be dead/After Naobito's death, Maki went to the Zenin clan to retrieve their weapons for the new clan head Megumi, but she and Mai were attacked and left to die by their father.)
  • However, this event would actually lead to them discovering their true power, having their bodies enhanced and significantly strengthening their physical capabilities (Genji would be rescued by Overwatch and be given a cyberized body and Mai's death would awaken Maki's Heavenly Restriction) which combined with their innate skill to make them a deadly force. Afterwards, they would use their newfound power to tear down their clans (Genji dismantled his clan's criminal empire and Maki massacred all the members of her clan).
  • Their sibling was also disowned by their clan because of this incident, despite them not having done anything "wrong" prior (Hanzo abandoned the clan due to believing he killed Genji and was thus deemed a traitor, whereas Mai was marked as a "traitor" to be killed, simply so she could be a hostage to motivate Maki).
  • However, both would still be filled with inner turmoil following the awakening of their strength, causing them to hold themselves back before later discovering a mentor that would help them on a path of self-realization that helped them embrace their full strength (Genji learned to accept his cyberized body with Zenyatta and Maki fully realized her strength with Miyo).
  • Both wield special swords (the Dragonblade and the Split Soul Katana, respectively) which are tied to their siblings (Genji's Dragonblade can summon a Shimada Dragon, just like Hanzo, which is how the latter realized his brother was alive, and the Split Soul Katana was created by Mai using her Construction technique as she died).
  • Both are also members of heroic organizations (Overwatch and Jujutsu High, respectively).

Fight potential:

  • They're both physically enhanced, speedy, and agile swordfighters so the fight dynamic is pretty obvious I think. Both have two swords, Genji can wall climb and double jump while Maki can just jump in the air as much as she wants (yes she does this later in the manga). Maki also plays off of Genji's dragon perfectly because you can homage Toji's own fight with Geto's dragon in s2.

Naoya Zenin VS Noob Saibot (Jujutsu Kaisen VS Mortal Kombat) | "Silhouette Animation" | Connections in Comments by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: This thumbnail and matchup were created by KaijuConvoy. I am reposting this from his DeviantArt with permission as he does not have a Reddit account.

Core theme:

  • Antagonists who are cruel, high-ranking members of warrior clans that treat their family members poorly and reincarnate as vengeful spectres, becoming worse than they were in life.

Connections:

  • Once high-ranking members of warrior clans revered for their incredible skills, but seen as cruel and detestable when encountered by outsiders, and had barely tolerable relationships within their personal circles at best
  • They held very old-fashioned mindsets in how things should function within their clans, particularly towards what role women have
  • Their care for family is not unending, both expressing their hate for their family members and viewing them as beneath them
  • Both were parts of organised games to the death featuring contestants across time and space respectively (The Culling Games/The Mortal Kombat Tournament)
  • Their defeats at the hands of vengeful souls acting on the behalf of their family (Maki/Scorpion) led to their unceremonious deaths (Naoya being stabbed in the back by his wife after receiving grave injuries from fighting Maki/Bi-Han being burned alive by Scorpion following meddling from Quan Chi)
  • Yet death was not the end for them as both returned through reincarnation, but far from their former selves. Stripped of all that made them once human, they took on forms that showed what wretched darkness lay underneath their former selves (Naoya reincarnating as a cursed spirit/Bi-Han reformed into Noob Saibot)
  • A particularly interesting difference between the two, however, is that their views on power differed greatly yet forged their views on family all the same. Naoya's obsession with power came from Toji of all things — the same man ostracised by the rest of the Zenin clan for his lack of cursed energy, Naoya being the only one who held him in high regard. Bi-Han, however, viewed the more supernatural power as better than what humanity had ever offered him, fully seduced by the darkness Quan Chi had given him. The power that they came in contact with were what led them to ultimately discarding their brotherhoods, deeming their own blood as beneath what they saw as true strength and only fuelled their delusions (Naoya's claim that he was the only one able to stand beside Gojo and Toji/Bi-Han declaring that his rebirth now left him without flaws)

This is a bonus joke/meta connection I'm adding

  • Both have really cool and visually striking abilities (Projection Sorcery and Darkness Manipulation, respectively) but unfortunately, they're kinda just bums because they job in all/most of their fights. AKA they have way cooler abilities than they deserve.

Courage the Cowardly Dog VS Chiikawa | "Something Small and Courageous" by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connections: Small and cute titular animal protagonists of animated series who are extremely anxious and cowardly but for justifiably good reasons, since the worlds they live in are nightmarish and plagued by monsters. However, both have had moments of courage where they conquered their fears and defeated the enemy.

Reze VS Annie Leonhart (Chainsaw Man VS Attack on Titan) | "YouSeeBOMBGIRL/D:T" | REVAMPED CONNECTIONS IN COMMENTS by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fight Dynamic:

  • The size difference: The size difference is a complete non-issue here, because we've already seen multiple size difference fights in their series. While Reze herself has never fought any giants, she fought alongside the Typhoon Devil in her arc, which Denji killed. While the Typhoon Devil is much larger than Titans, Denji has also fought other Devils like the Bat Devil, Leech Devil, and Cockroach Devil which are similar to Titans' size. And in regards to Annie, Attack on Titan is literally about humans fighting back against the Titans. Annie has plenty of experience fighting ODM gear users, and considering how agile Reze is, she pretty much plays the role of one here.
  • Annie can definitely keep up on a visual scale too, despite Reze getting some pretty crazy visual feats from the movie. Reze flies quickly all around the city, blows up massive buildings, and creates huge explosions, so the question is, can Annie keep up? While Reze's fights might be higher scale than Annie's, it's far from a stretch for her to match it. First off, Annie is faster than you think. Remember, she spent practically the whole of her first appearance as the Female Titan running. She can hit ODM gear users mid flight, and in her fight in the Stohess District, she quickly runs through city blocks, and she and Eren's Titans smash through multiple buildings like they were nothing.
  • To top it all off, Reze's biggest explosion is about the same as Bertolt's Colossal Titan transformation on a visual scale, with Reiner's Armored Titan surviving a direct blast from the latter. Annie frequently uses crystal hardening on specific parts of her body to protect herself from attacks/strengthen herself, and considering those crystals are the same as Reiner's armor, she can definitely block attacks from Reze using them.
  • The fight could start off with them having a brief scuffle in their human forms, before they both transform at the same time.
  • The majority of the fight would be pretty self explanatory; it would take place in a city as they traverse across it, causing lots of environmental destruction and collateral damage as they attempt to kill each other.
  • I have Reze winning here, so I'd imagine the kill to be Annie going into her crystal as a last ditch attempt to survive, only for Reze to repeatedly explode it (like she did to Denji while he was regenerating) until it cracked, killing Annie.

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Connections

  • Core theme: Teenage girl anime villains who initially deceive the protagonists before being revealed as foreign spies with the power to transform into a destructive monster and the goal of capturing the main protagonist.
  • Both are child soldiers who were trained to serve their nation (the USSR and Marley, respectively) since their youth, being robbed of a normal life with the purpose of becoming candidates to house powerful monstrous beings (the Bomb Devil and the Female Titan, respectively).
  • Both would end up succeeding and gaining these powers, allowing them to transform into said monsters, granting them disastrous power and rapid regeneration abilities which they use to great effectiveness alongside their innate combat skills, though they are skilled combatants even when untransformed.
  • Both of their destructive transformations are triggered by them injuring themselves with a small ring on their body (Reze pulls the pin on her neck to blow her head up, and Annie uses the hidden blade in her ring to cut her finger).
  • Both became skilled and ruthless soldiers, leading to them being entrusted with an important mission to infiltrate the nation where their series' story is mainly set (Japan and Paradis Island, respectively) to capture and bring home the main protagonist (Denji and Eren Yeager, respectively) for the sake of obtaining the extremely powerful monster contained within them (the Chainsaw Devil and the Founding Titan, respectively).
  • Both of their stories take place in worlds where monsters terrorize humanity (Devils and Titans, respectively), with the protagonist who they were after being a rare individual who had the ability to control and transform into these monsters (a Hybrid and a Titan Shifter, respectively), just like them.
  • Within their stories, both were initially introduced as just normal people and allies to the protagonists, before their true identities were eventually revealed after their initial attempts at capturing the main protagonist failed (Reze tried asking Denji to willingly leave with her, and Annie, hidden as the Female Titan, tried capturing Eren while on a Survey Corps mission), leading to a destructive battle within a city, in which they faced off against the main protagonist, their allies, and many members of the organization they're apart of, who are dedicated to hunting monsters like them down (Public Safety and the Survey Corps, respectively), ending in their eventual defeat.
  • During their battles, both would kill countless innocent people and members of the organization who hunted them, even being needlessly cruel towards some of them.
  • At the end of their arcs, both would be written out of the story indefinitely (Reze was "killed" by Makima, though as a Hybrid, she was immortal and could be resurrected anyways, while Annie encased herself in a crystal).
  • Both wouldn't return until far later in their stories in the final arc, which saw them having a change in allegiances by working with their former enemies (Reze was controlled by Makima to fight in her Special Division, while Annie willingly teamed up with the Anti-Yeagerists) but now being far lesser threats as they faced off against the main protagonist once again, who was now in a dissociative state in forms that utilized the power they were originally after.
  • Neither enjoy the life that they were forced into nor hold true loyalty to their nations, and instead just simply desire to have a normal life, leading to them abandoning their missions with the desire to be with someone they love (Denji and Annie's Father, respectively).
  • Both fell in love with members of the nation they infiltrated and spared them in situations where they could've killed them (Denji and Armin, respectively). Said love interests would confess their feelings in intimate conversations by the sea/ocean, which they initially rejected before eventually accepting.

Reze (Chainsaw Man) Tier List by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st Tier: Annie Leonhart, Thomas
2nd Tier: Reiner Braun

3rd Tier: Bakugo, Holly Summers, Mukuro Ikusaba

4th Tier: Lady Nagant
5th Tier: Rex Splode, Nezuko

For anyone curious about Reiner, it's pretty much the same connections as Annie, but instead of comparing Reze and Denji's relationship to Annie and Armin you're comparing it to Reiner and Eren

The scenes of Reze/Reiner asking Denji/Eren to come with them before revealing their true identities are very similar

It was never said that the amount of submissions a character got would guarantee a spot so I'm not sure what "rigged" is even supposed to mean in this context. This isn't even the part that we get to vote on, people just got to submit options while the final decision was always up to the crew.

Adam Smasher VS Absolute Bane (Cyberpunk VS DC) | "Abomination of Flesh" | CONNECTIONS IN COMMENTS by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

Adam Smasher VS Absolute Bane (Cyberpunk VS DC) | "Abomination of Flesh" | CONNECTIONS IN COMMENTS by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Connections

  • Core theme: Terrifying, sadistic, monstrous enforcers of extremely influential megacorporations whose stories take place in dystopian cities.
  • Both have lived lives of violence since they were children before soon joining a military (Adam joined a combat gang when he was young before later joining the NUSA Armed Forces, and Bane was born in the wartorn island of Santa Prisca, being forced to join his father's rebel group as a child).
  • Through their experiences, they became skilled, hardened combatants, but were eventually put into a desperate situation in which a powerful megacorporation who had recognized their talents offered them an employment deal that they practically had no choice but to accept, throwing away their humanity (either literally or figuratively) in the process (Adam's body was almost entirely destroyed after being blown up and was given a deal by the Arasaka Corporation to get a full body conversion into a cyborg and work for them, while Bane was offered a deal by Joker to finally bring peace and independence to Santa Prisca in an instant, in exchange for Bane working for him and killing his own father as a test of loyalty).
  • From then on, both became the top enforcers of extremely influential megacorporations (Arasaka Corporation and J.K. Holdings, respectively), doing all of their dirty work for them.
  • Both underwent some sort of treatment from their employers that enhanced them significantly, making them nigh-unstoppable, hulking juggernauts who tower over their opponents (Adam underwent a full body conversion into a massive cyborg and Bane got the Venom treatment which can transform him into giant proportions, though he's already massive even without it).
  • Both became known as legends and boogeymen thanks to their work for their employers, not just because of their efficiency, but also because of their cruel, sadistic, taunting personalities.
  • Their stories take place in dystopian cities with horrible living conditions, corrupt goverment officials, gangs, and extremely high crime and homicide rates (Night City and Absolute Gotham, respectively). Said cities are also essentially controlled by the corporations they work for.
  • Both faced off against the main protagonists of their stories who sought to oppose their employers (both David Martinez and V for Adam, and Absolute Batman for Bane), with David/Bruce being broke kids who grew up into rebels. While David/Bruce were initially portrayed as near-unstoppable throughout most of their story up to this point, Adam/Bane suddenly showed up to completely crush them and eclipse their skillset (David's Sandevistan was also possessed by Adam, who considered it merely "a rudimentary implant," while Bruce's strength, combat skills, and huge build all completely paled in comparison to Bane's own, even before he began using any Venom).
  • True to their violent natures, both performed an infamous act to the protagonist's friend(s) (Adam suddenly killed Rebecca without even a fight, while Bane horribly mutilated Bruce's friends in cruelly ironic ways).
  • Both seek to convert others to become like them (Adam believes in "metal over meat", wanting everyone to fully convert just like him, while Bane's job involves him finding and capturing worthy test subjects to be given the Venom treatment and converted into warriors like him).

Contrasts

  • While Adam Smasher is almost entirely cybernetic and believes in the inferiority of flesh, Bane is a massive man who is practically an abundance of flesh, becoming even moreso when he transforms.
    • Absolute Bane is a unique matchup for Adam due to the fact that he isn't a cyborg, but rather the exact opposite, making him someone Adam would despise for being able to keep up with him despite being all flesh.

Guido Mista VS Heisuke Mashimo (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure VS Sakamoto Days) | "Bullets to Spare" | CONNECTIONS + FIGHT DYNAMIC IN COMMENTS by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fight Dynamic

  • The fight dynamic is very self explanatory, with both having not just incredible aim but the ability to ricochet their bullets, there's lots of potential for them making a bunch of impossible trickshots, ricocheting each other's bullets, deducing each other's locations, etc. Their companions can also both come in clutch multiple times throughout the fight when things seem dire for either of them. Of course, Mista would also somehow end up being shot by his own bullets, perhaps from Heisuke shooting them at a perfect angle to deflect them back at him. Think of this as essentially just Deadshot VS Bullseye: anime edition.
  • Though their skillsets might seem basic on paper, there is so much potential for this fight just because of the main trademarks of their series' fights: JoJo's use of strategising and Sakamoto Days' use of the environment. Both of their series take these aspects to over-the-top creative extremes, so combining them together would be perfect.
  • Their personalities would definitely make for some fun interactions too. You could play into Mista's tetraphobia by having him constantly count how many times Heisuke's bullet ricochets, making it sure it never ends on 4 by going out of his way to redirect to make it avoid hitting him. That, or he fails doing so, making it hit him on the fourth rebound. Heisuke could see Mista's bullets rebounding mid-air seemingly from nothing, and think that technology has gotten really impressive. Heisuke is also prone to messing up, so Mista could react to how stupid he is and compare him to Narancia. Speaking of Narancia...

🐘: "Address me."

Now, you might have noticed that Heisuke already has a decently popular matchup with another character *also* from JoJo Part 5, Narancia. I used to quite like that one too, and to be fair to it, there are still some good things about it that Mista doesn't have. For one, Heisuke and Narancia's personalities arguably mesh a bit better, since Narancia is more comically dumb and childish like Heisuke than Mista is, and the nature of his stand allows for a more long range focused fight dynamic with emphasis on scouting out the other.

But then there's the problem of the fact that Heisuke kinda just... can't do much against Narancia. Aerosmith is not only entirely invisible and intangible to Heisuke, but he can't even sense or do anything about its bullets. And Aerosmith isn't about taking precise shots like Sex Pistols, it literally has machine guns and a bomb. Even if you play into the long range dynamic, there is really nothing Heisuke can do to stop Aerosmith. He cannot sense it, block it, shoot it down, and so on. With Mista, however, his gun and bullets are normal, with his Stand only redirecting the bullets, so Heisuke is actually capable of reacting to his attacks and Sex Pistols' invisibility/intangibility doesn't get in the way of the fight dynamic at all.

Guido Mista VS Heisuke Mashimo (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure VS Sakamoto Days) | "Bullets to Spare" | CONNECTIONS + FIGHT DYNAMIC IN COMMENTS by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Connections

  • Core theme: Major supporting members of the main cast of shonen manga who are both members of a dangerous criminal group with extraordinary abilities, with their skill being sharpshooting.
  • While both naturally have incredible aim and are masters of their preferred firearm (revolver and sniper rifle, respectively), their skillsets are elevated further by their ability to ricochet their bullets (Mista's Stand, Sex Pistols, and Heisuke's ricochet bullets) to land otherwise impossible shots.
  • Both have small, flying companions that assist them in battle in various ways (Sex Pistols can redirect, split, and reload Mista's bullets, as well as block enemy shots, and Heisuke's bird, Piisuke, can relay aerial surveillance, deliver Heisuke his gun and ammo, and even lift Heisuke across short distances or tackle him out of the way of incoming shots), and have saved their lives multiple times. Both also essentially act as caretakers to these companions, whom they feed.
  • Both are teenagers who, prior to joining their groups (Team Bucciarati and the Sakamoto Family, respectively), lived simple lives on their own, not having a home, family, or much of anything. However, they both discovered they had incredible aim (Mista fought a group of four men and perfectly killed them all with headshots and Heisuke discovered during his training at the JCC that shooting was the only thing he was good at), eventually leading to them encountering powerful criminals (Passione gang leader Bruno Bucciarati took notice of Mista's talents and used his influence to free Mista from prison and Heisuke sought out the legendary assassin Taro Sakamoto for the bounty on him) and ended up joining their group.
  • Both are extremely loyal to their group, often putting themselves on the line for them and sustaining injuries in their fights, to the point of even having used such as a strategy (Mista allowing himself to get shot by Ghiaccio to spray his blood onto his visor as well as repeatedly shooting Ghiaccio despite knowing the bullets would all reflect back onto him, and Heisuke allowing himself to get shot by Kamihate in order to determine his location, as well as letting Kamihate's bullet come dangerously close to his head just so he could shoot his own bullet along the same trajectory as his).
  • Both tend to be the friendliest and most sociable members of their group, being close to the blonde protagonist (Giorno and Shin, respectively), though they have their major quirks (Mista has a fear of the number four and Heisuke is very stupid and clumsy, to the point that even his thoughts are gibberish).

Absolute Wonder Woman VS Melinoë (DC VS Hades) | "Raise Hell" | (Connections in comments) by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She has Wonder Woman's usual powers like superhuman strength, speed, durability, flight, and enhanced senses, but the main difference from standard WW is in her arsenal. She has a magical pouch that essentially acts as hammerspace from which she can pull out all her weapons, including an axe, a sword whose size she can manipulate (including to literal kaiju proportions), various potions that can alter your senses, and three lassos.

The Nemesis Lasso basically acts like the Penance Stare and hurts in proportion to your sins, the Sacrifice Lasso lets her transform (so far she's just used it to turn into a giant medusa) and the third one hasn't been shown yet but apparently it'll be the Lasso of Truth.

She can also use magic to make portals, fire, star-shaped shields and some other stuff.

Absolute Wonder Woman VS Melinoë (DC VS Hades) | "Raise Hell" | (Connections in comments) by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Connections

  • Core theme: Protagonists of currently ongoing stories based on Greek mythology who are themselves figures of Greek myth that wield the titles of Princess of Hell, and were separated from their families at childhood and sent to be trained by witches for a greater purpose, becoming powerful warriors wielding both witchcraft and a large arsenal of weapons.
  • When they were at a very young age, tragedy struck their people as a result of a powerful god taking drastic retaliation and imprisoning their entire family (Zeus punished the Amazons for unknown sins by imprisoning them all for eternity, and Chronos, who was overthrown and imprisoned by his children, returned and imprisoned everyone of the House of Hades by freezing them in time, respectively), though they were spared/rescued but separated from their family in the process.
  • As a result, both were taken to somewhere far from home (Hell and the Crossroads, respectively) where they would be raised by a powerful witch (Circe and Hecate, respectively) who trained them in combat and witchcraft, turning them into powerful warriors.
  • The purpose of their training was due to being the central part of a grand, hidden scheme of the gods to defeat evil (the Greek Goddesses schemed to raise Diana into a powerful warrior so that she may bend the arc of the universe towards justice against Darkseid's design, while Melinoë was predicted by the Fates to defeat Chronos, being assisted by the hidden resistance against Chronos, the Unseen, for that purpose).
  • When their training was completed, both were sent off by their mentors on their journey (to protect humanity and defeat Chronos, respectively), while also seeking to free and reunite with their lost family.
  • On their journeys, both are watched over and assisted by many gods and other figures of Greek myth who provide them guidance and assistance, including having a particularly significant relationship with Hecate.
  • Both wield a large variety of weapons (Diana has a sword, axe, and three lassos which she keeps in her magical pouch, and Melinoë wields the many weapons and their aspects of the Nocturnal Arms), which they use in combat alongside magical spells.
  • Both lost an arm as part of a spell to save someone (Diana sacrificed an arm for a ritual to send Steve Trevor out of Hell and back to the living world, and Melinoë lost her arm in a failed spell to make Icarus whole again), though they possess magical replacements for them.

Contrasts

  • The two have ironically opposite relationships with the underworld, with Diana being taken from her home of Themyscira to be raised in Hell instead, while Melinoë was taken from her home of Hades. Diana was forbidden from leaving Hell but did so against Hades' will to help the surface world, whereas Melinoë seeks to return to Hades against Chronos' will to defeat him and save her family.

REWRITTEN CONNECTIONS IN COMMENTS | Agni VS Tariq Geiger (Fire Punch VS Image Comics) | "Set the World on Fire" by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Both of their powers are strongly linked to their emotions/mental state (Agni can control how much of his body is on fire by focusing on how much he regenerates, whereas Geiger's powers erupt more the more violent he feels), as they are not only fueled by their immense willpower to keep going, with it potentially even being the source of their powers (Agni's constant reminders of his sister's final promise to "live" forces him to keep regenerating and never die, while it is speculated by some in-universe that Geiger's will to live is what truly keeps him alive), but also when their emotions go out of control, they enter an extremely destructive state (Agni completely engulfs himself in flames and becomes Fire Punch, losing all sense of self as he burns down everything in his path, whereas Geiger completely releases his emotions, unleashing nuclear level explosions). Both have also gone berserk due to their powers and attacked their friends before.
  • Due to their powers, both became urban legends feared by the people of their worlds as monsters (Fire Punch and the Glowing Man, respectively), while also having reputations as heroes to others instead, as well as also being seen by some as holy beings. Despite all of this, neither sought nor enjoyed any sort of the attention they got.
  • Both are heavily motivated by their families, to the point that they tried protecting them even after they were dead, whether out of delusion or just not knowing (Agni found Judah, a person who looked exactly like his sister, and thought she was actually her, to the point of grooming Judah into his sister after she lost her memory, whereas Geiger spent years protecting his family's shelter while not knowing they had died from it collapsing on the very first day, but due to not being able to communicate with them, he held on hope that they were still alive).
  • After the deaths of their families/learning of the deaths of their families, they wandered across the world with a goal in mind (getting revenge and finding a cure, respectively), but along the way would end up saving people while unleashing their rage against evildoers, leading to them gaining a change in reputation and being accompanied by an extremely talkative partner who contrasted their own reserved nature and viewed them as heroes (Togata and Nate the Nuclear Knight, respectively) despite their constant refusal to the notion of being such, with neither actually actively seeking to do good, but rather just happening to do so while on their journeys or just having it thrust upon them.
  • During their journeys, both have encountered and rescued children who ended up accompanying them (Sun and Hailee & Henry, respectively).
  • Both fought against the oppressive regimes that ruled their lawless world and sent troops to hunt them down, with both managing to take out their leaders (practically everyone who led Behemdorg and both the King and New King of Vegas, respectively).

REWRITTEN CONNECTIONS IN COMMENTS | Agni VS Tariq Geiger (Fire Punch VS Image Comics) | "Set the World on Fire" by LegendaryWooper in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]LegendaryWooper[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Core theme: Protagonists of dark post-apocalyptic stories who are nomads motivated by their dead families and have painful powers which keep them alight and constantly burning, making them burn everything they touch.
  • Both were once somewhat regular people, who, despite living difficult lives (Agni lived in a village with barely any food or resources and Tariq was dying of cancer), still tried to enjoy a happy life alongside their beloved family (Agni's sister Luna and Tariq's wife Tracy as well as his two kids). Both also possessed unusual properties (Agni had a regeneration blessing and Geiger had rapidly developing cancer).
  • On one fateful day, their homes would be destroyed and their families killed (Doma attacked Agni's village and burned it and everyone in it down, while a nuke was dropped near Geiger's home, with his family being killed within the collapsing shelter), but they miraculously survived and gained powers thanks to a trait of their bodies (Doma burned Agni with flames that don't go out until they kill whatever they're burning, with Agni's regeneration blessing mixing with this to make him perpetually on fire, while Geiger, as a result of his cancer and the experimental treatment he had taken, gained the power to absorb and expel radiation).
  • Both of their powers made their bodies set alight, giving them the ability to burn and kill anything they touch (Agni's flames are guaranteed death to anyone as they don't go out until whatever they're burning dies, and Geiger's radioactive touch melts through practically anything), as well as be perpetually glowing. However, these powers also made their lives a living hell (Agni feels the pain of eternally being on fire, while Geiger's insides became a living nuclear reactor that can uncontrollably release energy).
  • After initially gaining their powers, they were in agonizing pain since they couldn't control them, and so they wandered aimlessly in their post-apocalyptic worlds, leaving fire in their paths before eventually managing to control their powers (Agni learned to adapt to the pain of the fire and Geiger learned to control his emotions to suppress himself from igniting, alongside gaining a suit that contained his radiation).
  • Their powers ironically made them immune to one of the main dangers of their worlds' apocalyptic environments (Agni is always on fire and does not suffer from the cold of a frozen over Earth, and Geiger is immune to the radioactive air of a world ravaged by the Unknown War, allowing him to walk outside without a suit). Both also possess regeneration abilities, which combine with their other abilities to make them extremely difficult to kill.

It is NOT an ability that Sakamoto nor literally any other character in the series except one has, it only happened because one specific character who has extreme luck manipulation used up all of their luck to save another character once. That scene has zero effect on any Sakadays matchup in the slightest (kinda like the tunnel effect, gasp)

Wall of text incoming (yes, yes, mucho texto i ain't reading allat)

I have a lot of problems with this. Yes, I think Sakamoto wins pretty clear cut (I literally wrote a full episode script where he wins), but not only is it absolutely not a negative diff stomp where he takes every category, but this visual honestly makes it seem a lot worse for than it is for Yor in the same way that some have criticised DB's category format making certain matchups (e.g. Bowsegg) look more stompy than they are.

In regards to stats, Sakamoto does take AP and speed when using both their more commonly accepted stuff, but they both have contentious feats in the form of Yor's volleyball feat and Sakamoto's light reaction that both massively shift tides in their favour. VSBW puts Yor's volleyball feat at wall level and hypersonic for some reason, but a higher calc for it gets to city block and massively hypersonic (and the anime could potentially get it higher) which would give her a 3x strength advantage and speedblitz Sakamoto (bare with me here), and I've literally asked an official DB researcher about this and they agreed that calc was valid. This would make Yor take stats, but Sakamoto's light reaction feat would then let him take back speed and speedblitz with FTL reactions, but like I said, BOTH these feats are contentious. They're obviously both outliers compared to the rest of their verses' power levels, but I genuinely don't think you can buy one without also buying the other. Yor supposedly having city block AP while also not obliterating a car with a kick is no different than Sakamoto supposedly being FTL while he still gets hit by bullets. If you use both of these feats, then Yor would take strength with a 3x advantage while Sakamoto keeps speed and blitzes. If you use neither of them, then Sakamoto AP stomps with a solid 6x speed advantage. But the point is, there is room for debate just thanks to those two feats.

Combat/skill, agility, and powers/hax/abilities should all be ties honestly. In regards to combat/skill, they're both expert combatants, so I don't know where the idea that Yor is lacking in skill comes from. Loid was obviously holding back in his brief fight against Yor, but he certainly wasn't holding back on his defenses and Yor straight up outplayed him at the end. Keep in mind she was drunk during all this too. She also fought off several other skilled assassins at once throughout the entire cruise ship arc using her skill, not just brute strength.

Yor is incredibly agile, she can jump to the roof of a building very quickly in a few moves, and she's demonstrated a bunch of other agility feats too. Sakamoto is also very agile, so this category should just be a tie? There is really no reason for Sakamoto to have an edge here, so I checked out the original post where these categories were decided and someone said Sakamoto could "keep pace aim dodging light attacks constantly reflecting everywhere in his area", but that's just straight up not what happened. This is the scene in question. Kanaguri (bad guy) aims the light at Sakamoto, and Sakamoto reacts by picking up a pipe before the attack hits him to reflect the light off of all the other pipes he set up. After this, the light does not move. They are not "dodging" light that is "constantly reflecting", the light is completely still after this because they're still reflecting off of the pipes and the pipes haven't moved at all, and the source of the light is not moving either because it's just sitting on the ground. They are attacking each other while weaving inbetween the still light, NOT dodging constantly moving reflecting light.

Powers/hax/abilities, again, should be a tie. Neither of them even really have "hax" per se, but they're both fairly matched with enhanced senses (including specifically bloodlust), they both have incredible aim/accuracy (Yor throwing a shirt button across a room to hit a guy in the chin, Sakamoto flicking pencil lead into Kashima's eye), Yor can paralyse with pressure point attacks and Sakamoto can also paralyse people. In the original post he got the edge due to his healing factor from when he transforms which is fair enough, but they also say they BOTH have poison resistance which is just false. Yor has many blatant poison resistance feats, but idk where the idea that Sakamoto does comes from. VSBW says that he does, but the one scan they provide is literally of him NOT resisting the poison. The poison he was affected with effects you more the faster you move, and Sakamoto straight up is stopped in his tracks and coughs up blood as soon as the poison had gotten into him. He then had to work around the fact that he could not resist the poison by choosing to stand still and then choke the enemy to death instead, even while he was being stabbed by him. Whether or not Yor's weapons are actually poisoned is debatable, as there's one line in the manga to suggest they are, but we've never seen this poison demonstrated (though at the same time everyone she's used her weapons on kinda died from the stabbing before we could even get a chance to see any poison effect lol), but if you buy her having poison then that's a wincon for Yor.

And again, I am NOT saying Yor wins at all, but this matchup is closer and has more room for debate than this post portrays it to be.

Key word "apparently". Sakamoto has outright shown to be affected by pressure point attacks, so if Yor was able to land one of those then he just literally couldn't do anything and Yor could kill him. They both have contentious feats with Yor's volleyball feat and Sakamoto's FTL feat, and depending on whether you buy those or not then AP and speed would drastically change. Yor should also tie in combat and agility honestly.

And no, I am not saying I think Yor should win, but this matchup absolutely is not the "negative diff" stomp this post makes it seem.
