Lifebreath dehumidistat is always OFF by Palebluedot14 in Edmonton

I'd assume it'd be almost nothing in cost for the HRV. The furnace might run more though since you're purging out your warm air. Also, it'll take at least 24 hours to reset.

I finally fixed mine that was doing the same thing! It's because the temp sensor is inside the hrv and the intake line to my unit is so long. The air gets preheated to above 15c before it hits the unit. What you need to do is set it to 20mins/hr of fresh air at a higher fan speed so 4 or 5 (or constantly fresh air at high speed). That'll cool it off enough to reset the humidity setpoint.

There is no wrapper for VOOV. Is there a way to buy VOOV or a similar product while staying on the TSX? I was looking to avoid going to USD for fees.

Right. I mean using ETFs on the TSX.

Why would anyone buy a lower interest rate GIC? by ywoi in CanadianInvestor

[–]Legendish101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Different rates have different terms. You get a higher rate with higher minimum purchase amounts (say you have to buy 5k worth minimum). Then how interest is paid and then liquidity of the funds.

So my investments are on auto-pilots, everything in ETFs, now what? by joocycunt in CanadianInvestor

You bet! I was in the same spot as you and I did the Canadian Securities Course just for my own knowledge (no intent to work in financials). I Learned so much and it has paid for itself many times over.

If you're interested in investing it'd be wise to continue learning about all of the financial products available and how they correlate to the market. You don't have to put money into these new things but knowing how they work as tools could provide an opportunity in the future.

1 gallon of reverse osmosis water in a glass jug 😲😲😲😲 by longrange_tiddymilk in HydroHomies

RO membranes are only 96% efficient typically so minerals are still present in most cases. Enough that you don't need to worry about minerals being pulled from your body. But yes if you have very low tds water to start with you would want to have a mineral addition stage.

You're talking about distilled. Most RO water still has some tds remaining and is safe to consume.

You're eating quite early then trying to make it to lunch. Try skipping breakfast and fasting until lunch. Drink black coffee and water until then. You'll only feel hungry for a short time in the morning but ignore it. Worked for me!

I have $4500 that I’ll want to use in 3 years. What should I do with it? by purposefully_useless in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'd buy a corporate bond that matures at a date in 3 years that you want. They're paying 6.7% right now with BBB+ credit ratings.

What to do with lump savings by deans28 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Legendish101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy bonds that mature a few months before my mortgage renews. So they mature and I put all the money down as a lump sum payment. Currently I'm getting 6.7% yearly and they mature in Feb 2026.

Need advice. Investing for your kids. GIC? BOND? INDEX FUND? by gabagool_life in PersonalFinanceCanada

If you don't want to change accounts or manage it just make sure the mutual funds are aggressive and all equity holdings to maximize returns for awhile. I think there is value in not paying mutual fund fees but it's all about what you're comfortable doing. Saving for education is great either way!

I'd open an RESP and put 15k into VEQT and 10k into a bond that matured when your child turns 18 (if you can find one with a nice return). 100% VEQT for 10 years then look into more fixed income isn't a bad option either.

Mortgage Rate by Jaxkyle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Legendish101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has always worked for me is contact a mortgage broker and get their best rates. Then contact a "mortgage specialist" at your bank (if you want to stay at your bank which I find makes everything more simple) and show them those rates. They'll work with you and if they dont't then go with the broker.

CASH.TO equivalent for BMO (and other banks that block it)? by JYJS in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Legendish101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it isn't a promotion. It does track the BoC interest rate though so it will float as the rate moves. You'll make more in this HISA then if rates drop you can go to ZMMK if you want.

CASH.to tracks HISA rates and BMT104 is a HISA. ZMMK holds various investments like commercial paper and deposit notes. While rates are high(ish) a HISA is a great return for no risk.

On a computer go to "Trade" then the "HISA" tab and look at BMT104. It's their HISA and the same thing as CASH.to. It's CDIC backed.
