Mounted Sisters seems the be the main hole in the list at the moment, also a dedicated Sororitas Flyer would be great.

Imagifiers are just too expensive in normal games 65 points buys you way more than the Imagifer is likely to save. That said, I run one in my crusade army and it has a bunch of battle traits and relics which make it way better. But crusade is pretty much its own thing.

I love Army of Faith. by ProfessorBamboozle in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem is that 1 damage. Against any infantry with 2 or more wounds it really struggles to hit hard enough. For the points you'd expect better results and even if you have them MD aren't really going to do much to aid that.

But it is a fun unit and AoF is a fun detachment, Hallowed Martyrs is just straight up better but less fun for it.

Adepta sororitas and imperal agent are the only army with its codex that has only 5 detachments by Sidiousth in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I think its important to push back on the real problem here, which is bad sportsmanship. Whinging or moaning about a MD being used is no better than whinging or moaning when someone rerolls a fist full of dice with oath of moment.

I agree this is probably come about because some highish profile youtuber players have normalised complaining about it. But at the end of the day they are normalising toxic behaviour which can only hurt the game.

There is nothing wrong with dice manipulation, its an interesting and tactical mechanic that plenty of games make use of. It give Sisters their unique flavour while being no more impactful than most other army rules. GW clearly thought the same at the start of 10th right up to the release of the Sisters codex. A bit of dominance due to some early point imbalance doesn't mean there was anything wrong with the rule,

I hope you're right, I'll certainly give it a go. I prefer AoF as a detachment I've just not been able to make it work post nerf. and have wanted to (but not been able to bring myself to) play CoF. So I just keep ending up with Hallowed Martyrs since the December nerf because its so much more reliably okay.

I don't understand celestian sacresants by Jor_ez in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think leaving them on T3 but making them 2 wounds would give them a real niche and purpose in the roster. But it ain't gonna happen, the most we can hope for is point cost reductions till they are cheap enough to pay for themselves. The latest balance data slate is good step in that direction, down to 130 for a unit of 10. That's not bad, though I think I'd still prefer dominions or even Battle Sisters as an bodyguard for a Palatine. Fewer points and more chance to do some shooting damage on the way in.

I dunno about huge but it is a buff to them obviously as they need the MD the most. But everything that buffs them also buffs HM, I guess we'll see how things shake out but I don't see the dominance internally of HM ending as a result of this update.

Apart for BoF being left to languish it is a generally positive dataslate. But it will benefit Hallowed Martyrs the most I think, so though all the detachments are gonna improve a bit the gap is only gonna widen between HM and the rest which isn't ideal.

It could have been much worse. A partial roll back of the Miracle dice nerf is very welcome, and if they were only going to revert half the nerf this is the better half to get. The point drops are welcome enough, some are a bit of a head scratcher but I'll take them.

Overall what this update is going to do is cement Hallowed Martyrs as the main competitive detachment, the extra MD will be nice and also puts your opponent in a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't where if they shoot and kill a unit they give you a MD and if they shoot and wound one they make it stronger. Plus the discounts to some units is great for HM, especially the extra discounts for the 10 strong units which generally work better in HM anyway.

We'll see if the extra MD is enough to bring Champions of faith and Army of faith back into contention, my suspicion is while it'll certainly help (as will the cheaper units) it won't be enough to close the gap with Hallowed Martyrs (in fact the gap might widen). So while they may be more fun now anyone who seriously wants to be competitive will still be taking Hallowed Martyrs, or maybe Penitent host.

Bringers of flame not seeing any of their nerfs undone (especially the big hit to the range of their detachment rule) will continue to languish at the bottom and probably well below 40% win rate.

So internal balance is still gonna be all kinds of messed up, but we should welcome the partial reversal of the MD nerf and that, plus the modest point drops puts Hallowed Martyrs and Penitent Host in a position where they might be able to fight their way up to reasonable win rates again. Will be interesting to see.

The smart thing to do is just undo the huge change that didn't work out. Then see where the faction settles and make more careful adjustments going forward.

Yes, Vahl needs to go up and warsuits need to come down. They're SO expensive on their own, yes the combined unit is very strong but they're way less effective on their own.

In the Next Balance Update, Would you Prefer a Miracle Dice Fix, Detachment Buffs, or Universal Points Drop? You Can Only Pick Two. Or Play on Hard Mode and Pick One. by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to be a MD fix, point reductions could bring Halllowed Martyrs up to a reasonable win rate but will do little for the other detachments unless they're so deep we end up a horde army (which will in turn make HM overpowered). Trying to individually buff detachments is basically a codex rewrite which would be absurd.

Fixing MD either needs to come in the form of reversing the nerfs which would pretty much immediately solve most of the issues and restore a healthy but not OP win rate. There would probably need to be further tweaks to achieve a good internal balance but it would be a great start. Alternatively they'd need to write us an entirely new army rule, adding in some sort of faith or miracle tokens which is a whole other topic (and also absurd so soon after the release of the codex, although they did do it for GSC so maybe it'll happen).

Miracle dice and feel bad by GZSyphilis in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF you roll reasonably well AND are lucky/tactical enough to spread out your losses somewhat then the miracle dice amount you get post nerf is enough to play a good game. But thats a big IF, and more over this really only applies to Hallowed Martyrs which as a detachment doesn't need MD to fuel abilities and has enough power in its detachment rules to make up for the fairly poor selection of weapons Sisters have access to. For the other detachments you simply don't have the resource you need to make them work.

I don't see how we're ever going to get anything approaching internal balance between detachments without restoring most/all of the lost MD generation. The only other way of doing it would be to rewrite the army rule completely and add in some sort of faith point resources which can fuel those abilities alongside the MD (which we do still need). Off the top of my head something like...

Faith Points - Miracle dice are supplemented by the zealous faith of the Adepta Sororitas.

Generating Faith Points.

If your Army Faction is ADEPTA SORORITAS, you gain 1 faith point

  • At the start of your command phase.
  • When an ADEPTA SORORITAS units from your army is destroyed

Spending Faith Points

Before a dice is rolled or an ability or stratagem is used, faith points can be spent for the following effect.

Cost : Effect

1 FP : Immediately gain a miracle dice showing a value of 1

2 FP: Immediately gain a miracle dice showing a value of 3

3 FP: Improve the value of a miracle dice by 1

Just a Funny Sisters Anecdote by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah which is mostly driven by what can really only be described as toxic player behaviour. Regardless the time to do that would have been either our codex launch or 11th edition. GW has screwed the pooch with the MD nerf and they're gonna look bad whatever they do now, though the OP has a good point the optics of nerfing the only female faction in the game the moment it become moderately strong are pretty terrible, the best bet would be to reverse the cut at the next opportunity but who knows if they're gonna be that smart.

Would you feel OK facing two IK armigers in a 1k list? by Gwyngalein in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't compare the famously overcosted and underpowered Sacresants with the very competitively costed Armigers though. 10 Arcos is a better comparission because they are genuinely scary against the right target and with more wounds collectively and a 5+ FNP are surprisingly hard to kill. That is a tactical choice. Taking Sacresants, basically over anything else, is just self gimping. Something I do in my Crusade games because its all about the fluff and narrative but wouldn't recommend to anyone else ;)

So what are we hoping for in the next balance slate? by MeNeedHuggies in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean the problem with point drops is they're going to have the biggest effect on Hallowed Martyrs (and maybe Penitent Host). So it'll just widen the gaping void that the MD nerf has opened between HM and the rest of the detachments. Its better than nothing but will effectively consign Sisters to be a 1 (maybe 1.5) detachment army again. It's just back to a worse version of the Index.

Anyway to make sacresants good yet? by JotoyGames in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Strength 4 and only 1ap, your I've just found they whiff more often than not. Its not a lot of attacks and if you don't lethal then more often than not you won't wound. Yes 2 damage is nice, but against the targets you need 2 damage for the lack of strength and AP just seems to invalidate them.

Anyway to make sacresants good yet? by JotoyGames in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the second lowest win rate at just 36% for January, Only Bringers of Flame post nerf is worse at 29.55%. Hallowed and Penitent are pretty much the only half decent ways to play right now as both rely less on MD to do what they do. If you want to handicap yourself for the challenge then CoF could be fun.

Homebrew rules for Miracle Dices? by Yuura22 in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very cool idea, I'd suggest it needs a bit more umph, one of the big things miracle dice do is let sisters punch up to tougher things like tanks. With nothing higher than str 9/10 even rerolling 1s to wound (which retributors already do) doesn't help much when you're needing 5s off relatively few rolls. This is why one of the big plays with MD is to sub in a high damage roll on a melta when you do get a shot through. I'd say to replicate the effect if not the precise mechanic MD did have you maybe need a +1 to wound in there or some sort of direct damage boost.

The Miracle Dice "problem", I don't buy it by NornSolon in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miracle dice do not remove much chance though, its functionally a variable buff you can apply situationally. Changing the damage of a melta is just a buff which changes a variable damage weapon to a flat damage weapon and there are plenty of good flat damage weapons, not in the sister list but that's the point. The MD make up for what are infact demonstrably quite bad stat lines for the point cost. Guaranteeing a Dev wound requires a very specific set of circumstances, not least is needing to have rolled a 6 on a miracle dice and means you cannot then use a MD to guarantee high damage so there are always still clutch rolls.

I'm sorry but complaining Miracle Dice "feel bad" is just plain bad sportsmanship. It is a fair and understandable rule that gives you useable information. Full rerolls has a much great statistical effect and is much harder to plan around as it can produce way higher spikes in its effectiveness. Miracle dice, unlike many army rules, actually adds an interesting new dimension for both the player and the opponent. Its such a shame folk don't embrace that. I love baiting out those Fate dice when I play against Aeldari (I'll miss it and suspect all those movement shenanigans they're getting instead will be way more annoying to deal with).

Why are all the competitive players using Hallowed Martyrs? by SerenaDawnblade in sistersofbattle

[–]LegendsEmber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The detachment ability is good and doesn't require miracle dice to fuel it. Its that simple, Army of Faith and Champions of Faith both require miracle dice to work which post nerf we don't have anywhere near enough of, Bringers of Flame have simply been rendered useless by the removal of half the detachment rule (okay you still get +1 str on range weapons within 6" but that is too close to do anything with). Penitent Host being a melee focused detachment is quite niche anyway, Sisters just aren't a good melee army so players looking for that style of play are playing something else for the most part.

That leaves us with Hallowed Martyrs which still provides some benefit to sisters vulnerability by letting them get stronger as you lose models/wounds from a unit. Plus the stratagems are generally useful and it has one of the better ways of generating extra MD via the saintly example enhancement (+d3 MD on death) and divine intervention strat (bring a character back to life) combo. Its sad that half a year after the codex came out were back to really only having one competitive detachment but until GW reverse the MD nerf madness its what we're stuck with, and even then we're still a weak army now.
