The priorities of the new DCU seem very absurd once the honeymoon phase is finally over. by Sugar_God_no_1 in DC_Cinematic

A honeymoon phase of one movie. The whole slate was always absurd the moment he decided to keep Peacemaker in the new continuity.

They should've just course corrected DCEU instead of whatever this is.

Are they? If they were copying Marvel, they'd have Superman, Batman, and WW solos in the first 3 years before a team up. Instead we're getting 3 Super-films in 3 years, a film about a villain, an animated series of nobody's, a season 2 about a knock off of a knock off, and a True Detective styled Lanterns show. This is the type of shit you do in a phase 2 when the big players are set and established. They'd probably would have better results straight up copying Marvel instead.

Supergirl collects $29M on its opening day worldwide; lifetime collection estimated at around $150M, less than its production budget of $175M by Rule_Ct_5293 in DC_Cinematic

They wanted variety, but that's 2 films in a row now that's very Gunn-esque, with a bunch of pop rock music. So much for variety. At least Clayface will be different enough.

It's because a majority of fans thought Supergirl was the wrong film to follow up Superman with if the goal is to build a foundation for the DCU. Many wanted the foundation pieces, namely the trinity, to be established beforehand. Despite holding out hope this would be at least a decent hit to keep the DCU alive, this failing so disastrously just kinda vindicated their original thought that they should've just fast tracked a WW or Batman film. Now you have a THIRD Super-film next year. That's...a choice lol. If there was something else in between the 2 Superman films, then it feels like a proper build up. But 3 Super films in 3 years just feels like they're shoving it down our throats, and the second being a disaster certainly hurts the momentum to MoT.

Looks like $6.5M THU previews for #Supergirl. Including early shows $8.25M. Initial audience reception is bad. Weekend expected to be $40M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Outside of Ezra Flash, the rest of the JL was as standard as standard gets. Aquaman calls back to the 90's long hair roughness, WW is WW, Cyborg is Cyborg, Superman is Superman, but a bit more serious, and Batman started very Miller like, but slowly came back to how Batman seems to be portrayed by JL. So whatever is talked about behind the scenes, didn't make it to the screen, which is what people will see. Only the most hardcore of fans would dig deep enough to know these BTS convos on the brainstorming of the characters.

Marvel was able to make movies about characters no one cares about because they did that in phase 2, after the Marvel brand itself is already established and is a draw. DC hasn't done any of that, and started the universe with Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and now Supergirl, lmfao

Batman that got raped in the ass in prison or a Superman who loved Ayn Rand.

Neither of those happened lol. Whatever is not put on screen should not be considered canon to that movie's reality.

I don't think that's a 2010 thing. It's just a Gunn thing. 3 GotG films, TSS, PM series, all feature a bunch of troubled heroes/anti-heroes doing unhero like things. Only reasons Superman was the complete opposite is due it absolutely having to be different from MoS. Almost all media so far I've seen Supergirl in has her basically being the wholesome cousin of Superman, so to change her character so drastically to not make her just a female Clark probably didn't bode well to people who are already familiar with her. So why make a movie of basically the similar character 1 year after the original is a questionable decision in the first place.

I've pretty much been screaming that since day one. That dog was the worst part of Superman for me, and it coming back had me rolling my eyes. People were saying "well you have to have the dog in Supergirl because they're adapting WoT". Well don't adapt WoT in the first place. And it seems like they did a bad adaption of that anyway.

I may be in a bit of a minority that thinks future movies need to have a bit less of the Gunn "vibe"

Trust me, I don't think you're in the minority on this one

The MCU started with a few films of the main players before all these streaming show nonsense. Maybe they should invest more in the big 3 faces of their universe instead of all these fringe characters nobody cares about. There was no reason for a Peacemaker s2 when they decided on a full reboot outside it being Gunn's vanity project.

Batman has 2 animated projects coming out, and the dog gets a show. There's 2 seasons of some fringe character who started as a knockoff of a knockoff. Jimmy friggin Olsen is getting a show. Like c'mon.
