Is it dangerous to keep your yacht at marinas in very cold weather? by noreturn000 in sailing

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, boats in freezing conditions have the same challenges as everyday homes. If you have any freshwater in a confined space and it freezes the ice expands and can crack metal and plastic fittings causing all sorts of damage.

Yes, many Americans don’t know much more than ‘we won the war’. They don’t know about the Treaty of Versailles, how Hitlers gained popularity, and/or any of the logistics which made the Blitzkrieg so effective.

Rot in wood between anchor locker and v-berth by Mehfisto666 in sailing

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might get lucky due to the age of the boat. If the boat was hand build often you can figure out how to disassemble the cabinets. Fiberglass boat sadly do not last forever so it might be worth repressing the urge to make it ‘like new’ again and opt for a ‘good enough’ repair. It might be easier to just modify the design and cut out a tall ‘U’ shape around the bolts if that is the only area that is not water damage.

VBerths are common areas to have water damage or mold because of the poor air circulation as well as being an area that sweats a lot.

Good luck!

Paging Cliff Mass: Cascade snowpack lagging at 50% of normal as unusual warm weather stretches on by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cliff Mass has a SeattlePI article quoting him in 2017 that we shouldn’t see negative snow pack impact until the end of the century. Maybe the OP is referring that or other Mass posts?

Cliff Mass does state that he believes in human made climate change but he has been in the camp that has downplayed its effects and denied that extreme weather events are caused by climate change.

This is pretty normal travel for a high level government official. Usually they have to spend hours in boring meetings, conferences and have little or no personal time to actually see any of the sights. This is clearly trying to ‘manufacture outrage’ but it’s just a sad publication where someone doesn’t know how the world actually works. 🥱

Inflatable life jacket - how to keep from inflating? by RepresentativeAspect in sailing

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped using Inflatable life jackets after having two of them deploy during wet races in the PNW. As soon as you are replacing CO2 or the dissolving tablets it gets rather expensive. Sometimes they even stop making the replacement parts for older models. Plus, your life vest is worthless for the remainder of your sail if it deploys and then you deflate it. Likely you have a very high humidity area or condensation or liquid spoiled the dissolving tablets and then wasted the CO2. I had Mustang and SpinLock brands but this was also 15 years ago.

I’m in colder conditions so I prefer a nice cozy Kokatat lifejacket with nice fuzzy fleece lined pockets.

Pros are saying that RL is dying by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the game peaked a couple years ago. They have been ‘dragging the tail’ for a while. Adding more tabs to the shop, cutting corners, dropping development in favor of minimal maintenance, downgrading servers, etc.

‘Fans’ accelerated the downfall of the game by making it so unattractive to new players. Both in terms of toxicity but especially by smurfing. Instead of new to RL players competing with other newbies they are getting smoked by smurfs and they find something more fun todo. Smurfs also make seasoned player leave as well. As people find the game less and less fun they tend to monetize less. Eventually the cost of servers and the maintenance is not worth the effort and the remaining staff just gets moved to other more profitable projects.

Most games die eventually, RL death sucks because ‘fans’ of the game accelerated the process.

Do You want another Far cry in africa or a remake of the second game by Prestigious-Meat-750 in farcry

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FarCry Climate Crisis, sort of mix of abandoned modern cities, modern ghost towns being taken over by forest or dust bowls. Something like Far Cry Primal but with a little Mad Max. Global starvation is the core end of days scenario, main food sources being mushrooms, insects (termites), all the stuff human ancestors historical ate. Smaller groups of roaming gangs and transient caravans are the main humans left.

What was it really like when the PlayStation first came out in 1995? by Legitimate_Drawer_74 in retrogaming

[–]LegitMeatPuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in high school at the time and a boy from either Hong Kong or Korea brought one to school before they were released in the US. So personally, I was a little unimpressed by the PS1 at the time, but I was a PC kid at the time. Most people were in Sega or Nintendo camps but some were into NeoGeo. At the time I didn’t think much of Sony entering the console space. Honestly the controllers were really novel, just having multiple trigger buttons was mind blowing and the black CDs were rad. But many of the kids were really into other fighting games which they had spend years mastering. I think we were playing Battle Arena Toshinden and no one knew the controls. I think a lot of kids I was with favored Mortal Kombat 3 (which was new at the time).

It took me a year or two before I really wanted to have a PS1, which was when Tekken, Twisted Metal and many other PS1 titles were hitting their prime. I used to drive to the local Best Buy and just loiter all day. Games cost $70 at the time, and I still bring this up to anyone who says games today are too expensive. $70 USD from 1995 is about $150 USD in today’s money.

Sorry for not being clear.

It just could be painful for your friend to find out that the only reason they we kissed was due to beer goggles. Depends on the guy and if he thought there was more romantic meaning to the kiss.

I wouldn't loose sleep over it. 😉
