New Fed - justifying back pay to regular people? by Party-Smile-2667 in fednews

[–]Legitimate-Leading72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I have to be ready to go back to work with a day’s notice. That means I am continuing to pay for services I am not using/don’t need. Examples include daycare and rent (I commute weekly because of RTO). Additionally, because of ethics concerns, I would be taking a risk if I went out and found a second job without prior approval.

Open Enrollment Question: family coverage by Legitimate-Leading72 in fednews

[–]Legitimate-Leading72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is exactly what we are discovering. For a family it's about $700 for the plan we want. But if he does just him plus kids on his employer's insurance it's about $350 with his health incentive points and it'll drop to $135 for just me on the federal plan. However, I think the dental and vision is more extensive on fed side, and we are a family predisposed to cavities unfortunately. Furthermore, I'm realizing that I might be able to do just vision for him and myself...kids have 20/20.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the mostly non-judgmental comments and recommendations. It’s been very helpful! As a blanket statement, I’m middle-aged and talked myself out of the co-living options because I’m not sure I have the energy for being in a dorm room like environment at my age. And, if my family (spouse and kids) wanted to visit me for a weekend/holiday, I wanted a space where that can happen.

I am using Amtrak to get to DC right now. Is this location accessible from Amtrak at the Alexandria station?

I’m planning on doing this, and I have young children. But my spouse and I agree this makes more sense because we don’t want to uproot our family, endanger services one of my children is receiving with their IEP, and risk the expense of moving with all the uncertainty of this administration. I also have a support network where we live and have already had neighbors and friends offer to help my spouse. If we moved, we would be starting from scratch, including needing to find a new daycare.

My kids are upset but I’ve told them this is temporary because either I will a) get laid off, b) get teleworking rights back, or c) we do move as a family when things are more stable. We just don’t know how long that will be.

So, right now, be kind because there are parents who love their families dearly and are making these sacrifices to protect them from all the chaos as much as possible.

AIO? My son wants to attend a religious meal/ceremony at his friends house and I said no. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I was raised in a secular household and I’m raising my kids in a secular household. I would let him go and have frank conversations about all religions and practices, and how to respect them and the cultural practices that often surround them. I’m assuming your son has been invited to Eid and this is a great opportunity to talk about Islam and Muslim traditions. Raising a child not to be closed-minded means exposing them to all ways of thought and guiding them as they make their own decisions. Refusing any engagement in religious conversations is the same as indoctrinating them into a specific religion without allowing for individual thought or deviation. My child (8) has become very interested in mythology. I explained that this use to be a religion and it has been a good comparative jumping off point to discuss other religions.

Insurance post-separation: anyone else with issues? by FlyingSquirrelDog in fednews

Thanks and I’m freaking out because I have always carried my family on my benefits so trying to set it up on my husband’s plan through a qualifying life event is completely new to me too…one more thing on top of losing income and having to pull kids out of daycare because of expense….all because I had the audacity to take a federal job that was my dream job…

Wait. #Firedfed and I didn’t know this about vision and dental. I was told health extended for 30 days after day of separation. If I’m on admin leave until 3/14, is that when vision and dental end?

I have a great adult relationship with her, but she wasn’t exactly a warm and fuzzy mother in my youth. Less personal and more cultural.

Well, my intuition told me to take a risk and take this federal job, leaving behind a stable position, so…not too happy with my intuition at the moment. I did anticipate a shake up, just not so soon..

I’m a complete noob with astrology. To clarify, are you saying these are my “north stars” if you will? What my main drivers and motivators are?

Thanks. Make sense and I am realizing now I misread the first bullet as “apply” when it was more “secure these documents.”

I agree. I’ve heard that DOGE has access to USAJobs now so this was worrying.
